Assuming this is a new project with nothing but the soft synth (IOW no other plug-ins in the project) double check preferences and make sure the DAW is set to ASIO driver mode If there are ANY plug-ins (other than the synth) in the project, bypass them using the FX button in the Mix Module. If the latency goes away, it is caused by one more plug-ins in the project.

Probably a silly question from an old dinosaur

CbB installs as an upgrade to SONAR. IOW, the DAW, Cakewalk Content, ProgramData and User directories are version specific with Platinum and CbB having their own separate folders. The "Shared" folders are all updated to CbB which is backward compatible with Platinum. This includes the PC modules, DX plug-ins, utilities such as the plug-in manager and VST scanner. -
bandlab Help Troubleshooting: "Monitoring" does not work.

There are two DAWs offered by BandLab Technologies BandLab - a web-based DAW Cakewalk by BandLab - a Windows only program This forum was created for Cakewalk by BandLab You may want to contact support@bandlab.com or the Facebook group There may be other avenues for BandLab support but I am not very familiar with the product. -
The default numpad behavior was/is nudge. Numpad 0 used to toggle the Enhanced Keyboard Editing mode. This used to be a source of confusion as some trying to use nudge would accidently invoke this mode instead by hitting the numpad 0. As a result, the keyboard shortcut 0 was removed in CbB 2020.04 leaving it up to the user to assign the shortcut.

For now use the Notes Browser

The large icons may be easily modified to something more meaning. By default, they are a larger version of the image to the left of the track name. The small images to the left of track names for instrument, MIDI tracks and their associated audio double as buttons to open the soft-synth UI. Packing all the controls, buttons and dropdowns (all could be called widgets if you prefer) in the minimum amount of space possible makes it difficult to create and find hotspots for menus.

Most of the space in the red brackets is reserved for track icons which are turned off in the image posted.

It depends. This is a pretty common problem when migrating projects to 64bit hosts. Pretty sure Cakewalk Home Studio 2002 was 32bit. If the plug-ins are VST format, they will load into CbB. If the plug-ins are DX format, they will not load into CbB. My guess is they are DX plug-ins. You could install Cakewalk Home Studio 2002 load the projects in it and swap out the plug-ins for 3rd party VST plug-ins, hopefully new ones that have both 32bit and 64bt versions. Keeping a 32bit host around while transitioning to 64bit is handy.

Turn on the scan log too.

The company that made SONAR (Cakewalk) was shut down by Gibson in 2017. BandLab purchased the Cakewalk IP from Gibson a few months later. Cakewalk by BandLab (CbB) is a free 64bit DAW based on SONAR Platinum. CbB is actively supported and maintained by BandLab (some of the Cakewalk staff were hired by BandLab when they purchased the software). It installs as a free upgrade to SONAR Professional. Once installed both SONAR and CbB will be available and CbB can use all the plug-ins and content bundled with SONAR. Here are the instructions for installing CbB using BandLab Assistant

As far as the DAW is concerned...no. Some prefer the extra control Pro offers over Win10 features and policies. I have used Win10 Home since 2014 without any problems. My new machine has Win10 Pro. I expect it will be equally drama free.

That's for you to decide. Try it and see if it meets your needs. At least you know what the software currently offers.

Yet another company that does not advertise updates. Grab the full installer if you have any of their other plug-ins. They were all updated in Oct 2020.

Just installed Cakewalk, no sound output. Help Please?

It is a pretty good idea to use a master bus and have all audio and instrument tracks ultimately flow through it. All the project templates bundled with CbB have a master bus set up. The bus pane is at the bottom of the track view. SHIFT+B toggles bus display. There is also a button below to the right side of the bus headers to toggle the display too. -
Folders are not supported for project templates. They are supported for track templated. Track templates may contain as many tracks, plug-ins and references to buses as necessary. If you prefer not to use track templates, instead of project templates create empty projects. Then create new projects by opening an empty project and immediately "Save As" a new project. Projects may be nested as deep as desired.

The top one is used with VST3 format synths. The other is used with VST2 format synths.

Exporting at 24bit is less than the internal mix. Try with dithering and without. Try the different dithering algorithms. See if it makes a difference with your own projects. The "rule" is always dither when lowering bit depth but, it often makes no audible difference.

In addition to auto-save, set up versioning see http://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=Cakewalk&language=3&help=0x20A26 File > Revert to select and load a previously saved version.

I can't read the images but Zero Controllers When Play Stops is one potential source of CC data when the transport stops. -
Freezing and Bouncing tracks - both of these apply effects and generate audio from MIDI using softsynths. Bounce can also mix down multiple tracks to a single track. Destructive edits - any time an audio clip is edited in a way causing it to be written to disk such as shortening a clip and throwing away the unused part (aka applying trimming). Destructively applying plug-ins. Normalizing a clip. Exporting files Internally, the DAW reads all the audio clips and gets all the audio data from the synths and mixes this together using 32 or 64bit math. This data is sent to the export process. By default, export uses the Render Bit Depth to write out the file; however, this may be overridden in the export dialog. If exporting a 24bit file, the extra info in the data stream has to be dealt with in some fashion. This means either truncating or dithering.
