Ed . . . don't you already own a perpetual license, aka Sonar Platinum ? If you want the new stuff, you have to play the subscription game, at least for a while, until they come to their senses. I just hope someone will start a new thread here about all the great new features in Sonar, which I am really appreciating . . . well, OK maybe only a few that I use so far . . . the ability to set a Project START and END time, being able to scale up the much clearer vector graphic. Are you waiting for perpetual Sonar to get out your wallet again ?

Hi Paul . . . another super song write from you ! If I compare your original BandLab mix to this latest SoundCloud mix, I think you've really improved it, especially the drum timing against the instruments. Once again the vocals are bang on, and the whole arrangement has a degree of unpredictable about it . . . enjoyed this very much . . . as always !

Mark . . . as you know, listening to this makes my ugly long traffic commute easier to deal with, and really love what you've done covering this in your own unique way. Totally chilled out version, your vocals/harmonies are spot on, and I'm always in awe of how you record those guitars. When the cello arrives, the painting completes itself. It does unfold very slowly in the intro, you could probably add some rhythmic ride cymbal swishes there . . . other than that, I just sit back and enjoy . . .

Great sounding song, totally like the vocals and the production / audio recording . . . also love the backstory you tell, puts it all in perspective, great stuff, as always !

Started my Sonar recording session today . . . "Unable to Refresh activation. Please try again later. (1, 502)" Why not just say server error, instead of (1, 502) ? Okay, not total panic, I'm not locked out or anything, yet . . . but this is not cool. I'm already nervous enough being on a subscription. I tried again later . . . activations are unavailable for quite a while it seems.

Sounds great, you really know how to make that guitar sing, nice catchy melody ! Enjoyed very much.

@steve@baselines.com . . . such a high energy piece ! . . . not sure a vocalist could keep up anyways, without taking away from it, so a good choice for an instrumental . . . really enjoyed the journey . . . the style reminded me a bit of Mannheim Steamroller, an amazing band from long ago . . .

@Jim Fogle . . . thanks so much ! Glad you liked it (and subscribed, now I have 2, last I looked:) . . . I've always used BFD3 for drums, and my drum programming is based on playing with, and listening to many great drummers, to find out exactly what it is they really do back there, and how they can support the song idea. This one certainly got tweaked a lot along the way ! Bruce

Mark . . . most audio forensic of you to take a tutorial fiddle sound, and make a masterpiece from it ! Yup, sounds like that's what you did . . . just an excellent inspiring listen, hearing your audio magic evolve into this track. (Now, don't mess with it anymore) ? (I know you might) Bruce

@Wookiee . . . you've added some nice tempo speed ups to illustrate the swooping of flight . . . well conceived, much enjoyed my Sunday night listens to this !

Your screen shot says it all . . . for me sharper, less cluttered, and the ability to rescale larger is a welcome change.

@Barry Seymour . . . WOW, this is simply a classic piece, storytelling in the lyric is excellent. Really enjoyed it ! Hard to add critiques to this one, but in an eight minute piece it took 4 minutes to get to the "SKY" chorus, and only 2 choruses when it's done. For sure, not the standard pop song format, but the artistic integrity shines above it all here. Also want to add that your vocals are recorded and sung very well, smooth and clear, so easy to follow the story because of that !

@Johnbee58 . . . Hi John, I see exactly what you mean. I don't look in my Audio sub folder very often, but you are correct, there are some extra files there that seem out of place. For me these are dated 10 days ago, and when I play them, they are just guitar tracks from an earlier version of my project, 10 days ago ? I thought they might be related to freezing or unfreezing tracks so did a few tests, but they don't change or go away. Can't be sure to delete them or not, maybe someone from Cakewalk will help out and explain what they might be, and if it's safe to delete them. As a test, I did a "Save As" of my project to a new folder location, and those files do not get transferred to the new audio folder. So, Ya' . . . they are just eating up drive space. Maybe, they are generated when a project crashes ? . . . hopefully someone knows about these files.

In older versions of Cakewalk, when you launch Track Manager, you selected the tracks and they would highlight in a bold blue (In both Track View and Console View) Now, running the latest Nu Sonar, in Track View . . . selecting tracks in Track Manager shows a light grey, but in Console View . . . when you select tracks in Track Manager, nothing is highlighted at all. Yes, Track Manager still works properly, it's just harder to visualize without the highlighting of what you're selecting. A minor annoyance, but thought I would mention it here.

Hi Bjorn . . . very classy piece, well conceived . . . you've certainly captured the essence of the middle east music in this one, I was transported, very much enjoyed !

Nu Sonar, Quick Start screen not showing last saved version
noynekker replied to noynekker's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
@Noel Borthwick . . . Hi Noel, it's the very latest version (2024.05-BSP (Build 493) It also occurred to me that it could be displaying the project length of 6:14, unlike CbB which displays the the time stamp of the last saved version. My project, when exported to audio is only 3:52 . . . so that would be 2 extra minutes. Makes no difference toggling between Recent Project or All Projects. If I do search in the Quick Start screen, it does not find my last saved version at all ? . . . but it finds many other previous versions. -
Nu Sonar, Quick Start screen not showing last saved version
noynekker replied to noynekker's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Thanks for the responses all . . . specifically my issue is with the time displayed. This morning when I go to open my project, it says 6:14 pm last night, and at the end of my file name it says (untitled) in brackets, yet my last saved version in Cakewalk Projects folder is 8:29 pm, and there is no version that has (untitled) at the end of the filename. Something ain't right, there is no way to refresh the view . . . Curiously, if I open Cakewalk by BandLab . . . the start screen there has the time stamp correct, 8:29 pm, and I never even opened this project in CbB . . . though it correctly reads the last saved version from cakewalk projects folder . . . Nu Sonar does not. Looks like it is displaying the first time I opened the project yesterday (6:14 pm) and doesn't update to the time of last saved version. -
@Kevin Walsh . . . it clearly has that Pink Floyd influence about it, maybe a tribute to some floydian thing you felt inside when you created this. I really enjoyed listening to it . . . this has a great analog sound quality in the recording, like a tape recording, smooth edges. . . how did you record it ? . . . Is it all Cakewalk in the box, or something else ? Just really appreciate all aspects of the song, the guitar, the vocals, and the recording presentation !

Something I've noticed with the Nu Sonar . . . when you open Sonar to continue on working on your latest project, the date and time stamp displayed in the Quick Start screen does not reflect the last saved version you actually worked on. Anyone else noticed this ? So, I no longer trust which version I am opening from the Quick Start screen . . . such that I have to go to the Cakewalk Projects folder to make sure I'm opening my last saved version. Doesn't seem like the Quick Start screen is doing it's job to me.

@freddy j . . . super thick mix, fortunately you've got the vocal mixed clear and upfront so we know what it's all about . . . and there's a great message there, much appreciation for this one !
-
Sounding great so far . . . gull glissandos and all, very convincing. Hopefully you can build it into a series . . . interesting how you have a story mapped out in your mind, like a video.
-
Hey Mark . . . your collaboration, and instrument work on this one was certainly the spark that made me even attempt this video, going way outside my comfort zone . . . your final mix sounded so good, I just had to give it a try . . . thanks for that ! Bruce
-
@Bajan Blue . . . Wow Nigel . . . hoped you would see this, and I very much appreciate your comments ! I've watched a lot of your excellent video work here on the forum, so lots of inspiration to pull from there. I think video really helps to convey a story of the song for most people, if there is a story to be told. When it's audio only, it really leaves the interpretation open ended. This was hard to do for me, but I do hope to get better at it . . . need to practice and experiment a lot more. Bruce

@Wookiee . . . yes, it's the same old song (mix slightly mangled by You Tube) thanks for having a watch. (Or, did you have your eyes closed ?;)
