PreSonus and Celemony are joined at the hip, so the most functionality is reflected in Studio One (Chord track functionality is a big one, but you can Google ARA 2 for more details). Cakewalk was neck and neck till Gibson yanked the rug out from under them, but CbB is recovering from that event. Unless you are in the "ARA 2 now!" mindset, I think CbB will pick up the gambit sooner than it would take to learn another DAW.

^^^^ Please take note of this. In addition to the help in this forum, Noel is one who can definitely run things to ground if you give him enough detail.

The Baker's monitor this forum, so more detail and specifics are much more likely to be addressed. Details of what plugins, workflow that caused the crash, dmp files, and even the project in question will get significantly more attention toward resolution. Typing forum posts take time, so including those details has merit toward your own time. I do realize some aim at sensationalism, but those posts will roll off into oblivion.

Since it is new, it may have drivers that need updating. ASUS is pretty good about posting updates on their website, but "new" machines do not always have those installed prior to shipping. The demo song should play with WASAPI (shared) on the Realtek without issues. It would be good to also run through standard tweaks and disabling unnecessary startup apps and services. When running in DAW mode a lot of that stuff can be a menace.

This is what it does. Zooms in on the Now Time as Center. It does for me. That's how I work. This is correct with one caveat... when there isn't enough lead material to the left of the now time, the now time will drift center while zooming in, and left while zooming out, but the center of the zoom is still on the now time. That repositioning is the awkward part.

Finally moving from Sonar but....
mettelus replied to Christopher Theodorou's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
+1, you can also install CbB via the Bandlab Assistant (which is how it activates CbB for 6 months), then uninstall the Bandlab Assistant. That handshake is only required once. CbB is basically the continuation of SONAR, so it has a lot of program updates. Just to verify things, it is also good to walk through the preference pages side by side when first installed. -
Another trick is that the Matrix View is a 2x2 grid, so depending how "all over" the clips are that you want to use, you can drag/drop snippets into the Matrix View as a repository (think of it as a visual browser). You can also sort and easily preview them there before drag/dropping them to their final destination...and can drag them out multiple times if you have repeating parts to save multiple copy/pastes. [The "Lego block" version of arrangement ?]

That Auto-Tune Access is very rudimentary (2 knobs with 3 settings each) and locked to Waveform as mentioned above. I did a quick test of it on a few things and it doesn't seem to do anything that MAutoPitch cannot (which is free). Ironically, what I immediately did not like about Auto-Tune Access had nothing to do with its function, but it has a forced handshake to use (via WIBU Systems), and also forces you to allow Antares to collect usage data - it will not install without this enabled. Just installing the WIBU app created a handful of auto-starting services and registry rigamarole that isn't my cup of tea.

From what I saw with Revoice, it seems geared more toward video, to allow a second take of voice to be replaced so it matches the original frame for frame. You can even replace one voice with another which is used in several commercials lately. I cannot think of how to do that in Melodyne.

In the mean time, there is a "Spin Down" button on iZotope's free Vinyl plugin.

I didn't get the scan issue some noted, but when initially opening projects MIDI would randomly disengage on patch changes then come back. A reboot solved this, so I would recommend creating a restore point prior to and a reboot after installation. Not gotten to fiddle with it much yet so the jury is still out on the new content.

I think we all have, one of the best for me was thinking a dialog box had popped up that hadn't and I typed "SONAR"... this was back when offset was still linked to the O. Luckily, it changed visually so that I could back out of it immediately.

Vojtech responded quickly about the feature request with "we actually removed the 32/64 option intentionally, because people generally don't understand what it actually means and it led to all sorts of confusion and needed support," which I understand. So for the OP, the available options have already been mentioned above: Reinstall VST3 only. Install to a path that won't be seen by the VST scan. Manually delete them after installation. If you have a DAW which may require VST2s, the only real option would be #2, which Steve mentioned previously.

Windows is notorious for not coming out of hibernation/sleep properly. The quickest way to check this is save your work and reboot the machine. *If* that resolves it, start digging into the power options you have set. Be aware there is more than just "never sleep"... in the "advanced settings" section (via change advanced power settings) there are things like "USB selective suspend," etc. Be sure to walk through each of those if a reboot fixes the issue.

Melda's installer does allow the option to install VST3 only (so you can re-install them and check only the "VST3" option); but I am in a weird situation that Adobe Audtion 4 only uses 32-bit VST2s. To that end, I just submitted a Feature Request to Melda to add a 32-bit/64-bit option to their installer. For me, this would allow installing 32-bit VST2s (CbB would not see them since they are outside the scan path), and 64-bit VST3s. From CbB's perspective, similar could be achieved with a Feature Request to exclude select VST paths (i.e., subfolders), since Melda installs them by default to a subfolder at the VST2 path location(s).

Pure Tone Multi Contact Mono 1/4 Output Jack
mettelus replied to mettelus's topic in The Coffee House
Yeah, the jack grips the plugs better for sure (5 contact points versus 2), but is not that tight. The sleeve also has tigher tolerances and seems longer, so you cannot just jam a plug in it and hope for the best (it has to lined up fairly well). However, this might be a concern if the jack is mounted to plastic or if the plate isn't on a rigid surface, so that is something to keep in mind. This is also for something that would get motion or tension on the cable, so would be overkill on static equipment that never gets a cable pulled. The one niggle I do have with it is that the nut size is just slightly bigger than the one I took out, so I cannot use the old ones as a spacer. I had the old jack double-nutted to make it perfectly flush to the mounting plate, but this new one sticks out 1/8". It didn't come with a second nut to use under the mounting plate. I only got one jack, so not sure if this was a packaging error. -
Now I know why dance music makes me want to wet myself!

This little beauty is worth an honorable mention, since it is cheap, incredibly effective, and properly engineered. "Traditional" output jacks consist of contacts at the sleeve insert, and a single prong to engage the tip such as this one. The issue with this design in that weakening of the prong and/or tension on the cord can result in intermittent loss of contact. After experiencing this last weekend (on a 35 year old guitar jack) and a little searching, I found this guy which came yesterday. I am not sure exactly when these hit the market, since they are "patent pending," but both the tip and sleeve are gripped by two prongs inside the jack cavity. These actually snap into place with some force, so will not let go or lose contact (without intent) in most cases. They also come in long barrel and stereo versions, so they have more applications than just for guitar. Even testing an Xvive U2 wireless transmitter, the fob on that requires a little force to even spin it in the jack. I wanted to pass this along to folks who might be interested. For $6.80 (eBay was cheapest) and a couple of solder joints, this is an impressive "upgrade" for any instrument needing love on the output jack(s).

Mono UAD plugins not showing in cakewalk
mettelus replied to jono grant's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Do a quick check of the scan folders in X1. Does CbB have them all listed the same? It may be a simple path issue, but I do not have UAD to check where they are installed. -
Not everyone has a Meng looking out for them...
mettelus replied to Ludwig Bouwer's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Adobe is riddled with ping-backs to multiple servers, and intercepting them all creates an ever-changing landscape. Staying offline is counter-productive for some apps, since that is where they have most use, or what they are for in the first place. Having said that, throwing litigation threats at people is sort of just that... Adobe wouldn't recover legal fees from individual users, but maybe from companies. One nicety of Win 10 is that the OS itself shouldn't lock-out the CS6 (or below) apps in the foreseeable future. The amount of features added in the past 6 years hasn't been enough to even consider jumping on the CC bandwagon for me. If someone makes revenue from them, that is a different story that would take more consideration. The timing of the announcement in the OP also coincides with Adobe doubling the CC price of those apps (the most popular subscription), so it comes across that they are testing how far they can push it. -
SanDisk - Ultra 1.024 TB Internal SATA Solid State Drive
mettelus replied to Larry Shelby's topic in Deals
Exactly....there are no moving parts...so there are no worries with just setting them in there. That's exactly what I do...so, unless you are OCD about them being mounted, there really is no need. +1, Samsung's don't come with any mounting brackets, so my 850 is sitting on the bay floor as well. -
^^ Hardcore right/wrong assessments of tool usage tend to miss the mark, but it does bring light to "studio" versus "live." No one will care how the end product was made (DAW, tools, overdubbing, etc.); but when live, those that rely on "studio tools" stick out much more prominently.

I am not sure if the stars are only personally viewable or aggregated... but regardless of this, there is no way to sort this forum by any topic rating, which is what is required to be useful to end users. Even using the "custom view" there is no entry for "topic rating" or similar. I just went back to check the old forum's Feature Request subforum, and the ability to sort by rating has also been removed. Many people have contributed a lot of very thought-out requests over the past several years, but even with prompting users for input, many of these have been purposefully buried over time. Although it is great to prompt users for input; if there is no follow through, it simply wastes people's time and effort.

I didn't even realize that "file" was there... the Spitfire Audio app install defaults to my main user directory (C:\Users\[username]) and I just left it there. After launching Kontakt to add the library, that prompted Native Access to launch so I could register the S/N, and then prompted me to locate the library for Kontakt. I never copied/moved it anywhere, just mapped it to where it was installed. I am not sure if this is what you are asking though? What an odd file name to have in the main directory though.
