One thing to keep in mind on Unix type kernels is that memory is used as cache so, over time, all the memory should get used. If there’s no need to flush the memory, it remains. The behavior/RAM usage of a system with 8 GB and one with 16 GB may be different. So, a better test for comparison would be to limit the amount of RAM that a system sees, so it essentially behaves as a 8 GB system. I’d be interested in Jim’s tests in both configurations (8 GB and 16 GB).

Be aware that there's no upgrading of the RAM or SSD size. For storage, you can attach more storage via Thunderbolt/USB 4. But for RAM, you're stuck with what you bought.

Thanks. Good to know. That's exactly what I'm looking for ... audio to MIDI. Tell me more about gate-eq-melodyne (I have Melodyne Assistant). Is there a resource you can point me to?

With Mix Engine FX, a single plugin instance can access all the channels in a bus (as I mentioned), and it can use that to add crosstalk. But I had forgotten about crosstalk also utilized in Softube Tape. Here's the PDF doc from PreSonus: Studio One Pro Mix Engine FX and Plugins Explained I assume T-Racks Tape Machines doesn't do crosstalk. Can anyone confirm?

Right. Just wondering how well it would do with a noisier input (like a completed mix) to extract kick and snare. Or if there are other recommendations to do this. On second thought, does it actually remove the snare? I thought it just overlays it (or allows you to output to a new track).

APD Offer: 80% Off ReAmp Studio by Audio Assault!
ALC replied to Audio Plugin Deals's topic in Deals
HASR (which is down right now) likes it. https://web.archive.org/web/20210209215610/https://honestampsimreviews.com/2020/12/28/audio-assault-reamp-studio/ I picked it up for less when it was pre-release (as Grind Machine III), but I haven't done much with it since I have no shortage of amp sims to play with. The amp and speaker cab names it uses are intentionally misspelt, which is of mild annoyance for me, but at least it's not hard to guess what it's supposed to be. Seems the amps are profiled, like TH-U, rather than emulated in circuit, like Amplitube. The amp knobs don't necessarily match the original. Overall, it definitely gives you a lot for the money.- 4 replies

Using the Mix Engine FX in Studio One means that an FX can see/has access to all the tracks that make up the bus (the main mix or any bus you create). It saves complexity of needing to add it as an insert on every channel of that bus (at least for Tape). At least that's how I understand it (much simplified). I'm not sure if it saves CPU.

Yup. If IK could support that feature ... or if only there were some way to shoehorn a plugin to use the mix engine FX. One can wish ... Thanks for the input. Thanks for the input.

I'm interested in detecting and extracting the beats from recordings (not just from a drum track). Would Trigger be able to do this? Of course, if I bite, I'd wait until it gets down to $50.

I already have Softube Tape on Studio One. How compelling is it to get one of these? And, if one were to pick one, which would it be?

Any ideas what consoles Console Shaper, CTC-1, and Retro Mix Legends map to? There's no overlap?
-
Specifically, this is only compatible with Studio One Professional. Before, only Softube Tape and PreSonus CTC-1 utilized the Mix Engine FX. Seems that this replaces CTC-1. Glad they're still developing the feature.

Thx. I have Melodyne and Nectar but am wanting to try a zero latency pitch correction for live performances. Tune RT is cheap compared to Antares Auto-Tune.

I ended up picking up Nx Ocean Ways Nashville (since I’m still waiting for Slate VLX) and CLA Epic for $51.78 at everyPlugin.com to get Tune Real Time for free. Thanks for the discount code.

Added to my piano collection--I didn't have a Bechstein D Grand. Sounds pretty nice to me. The library has the following samples: Close Inside Outside Room Room Wide Vintage Inside Vintage Room Under Vintage Close Vintage Close Tape You can mix the mic perspectives to get the sound you want (though it defaults to just the "Close" mic). It's more than I know what to do with, but I'm sure someone can appreciate it. When I checked the size of the whole directory, it's only taking up 9.25 GB on disk, so you don't have to worry about using up 24.81 GB of disk space. Pretty incredible for a freebie.

That's what I've been using it for as well (fixing solo vocal tracks, and audio to midi), but I just have Assistant 5. So, is there not a compelling reason to upgrade?

I picked up the previous Humble Bundle which came with a bunch of loop libraries. I haven't figured out how to make use of them. Any pointers to how to get started? Also, I have access to loop libraries included with my Computer Music subscription which up to now I've pretty much ignored, but I'm wondering if I'm missing out.

Even better. Good to know. I've been one upped by cclarry!

You can do better on ebay. https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=bx_console+sc&_trksid=p2380057.m4084.l1313 These are likely license codes that were originally bundled with Focusrite hardware. Best price right now is $11.99.

If you just get the latest CM issue, you’ll get the collection which includes a lot of the plugins from previous issues (so no need to get those issues). If it’s a special CM version of a plugin, it’s probably available in the following CM collections each month. I look for the ones that advertise the monetary value of the plugin (though some of those like IK’s expire after a while).

It's slow, but the site does eventually respond (several minutes later). When I registered a bunch of issues, I opened the links in new tabs, waited for prompts, filled them in, and then checked back later for the responses.

I get "Audio Plugin Server has stopped working" (only when starting up or closing) but the program or system hasn't crashed for me, fortunately. I'm running Windows 10 Pro (10.0.19042 Build 19042).
