  1. Will, point well made but I must remind you that a lot of us have collected years of bells and whistles and it would be pointless to pay for things I already have! I am waiting to see whether there is anything of any use to my needs and if so, will gladly stay with Cake! I am not, however, going to pay an extremely high price for a DAW that offers little or nothing more than what I already have running in CbB. I agree this convo is getting old and for my part will say no more. Blame Cake for it getting old! We're still waiting!!!!!!!
  2. Responding to Gustabo: No, I continue to work but to continue to work with CbB seems a bit pointless now. Why continue to use a DAW whose future is in such jeopardy right now. My clients expect the work to be consistent on every level. I don't want to start or finish a project that I have to apologize for needing more time to prepare because we are switching to a different DAW to continue on! If I will be forced to switch in 6 months, why not switch now? Believe me, I am heartbroken to even be in the position to have to think about it! I profoundly hope that I won't have to switch but I don't have the luxury of sitting on hold for months waiting on word from Cake about my future! As I said, I have other DAWs and have used in my time Cubase, Logic, even Saw (Noone here probably remembers that one!) I just would like more facts and less marketing strategy involved here. Now, response to Keni I appreciate the kind words and if I have been able to help anyone here I consider myself so fortunate to count myself among some of the most knowledgeable and caring people I have known! As for leaving this forum, I will always be checking in. Long before I purchased my own version of Twelve Tone, I visited the forum here for tips and the bottomless pit of midi and audio knowledge here! I have no plans at this time to make a move but I continue to export my projects in CbB to my alternate DAWs, just in case. There is hope!
  3. Btw, yes ,I can use the old versions of Platinum and X to open those original projects! My point is, the new features of of CbB will be sorely missed as far as my workflow is concerned! I hope they start giving more solid info SOON!
  4. Sunshine Dreaming has brought up the very point that as days go by becomes a very contentious fact to me! As I have repeatedly stated, I have almost 30 years of projects in the Cakewalk platform. Users like me that have that much of an investment in this product deserve to at least know an estimated cost of moving forward with Cake much less concrete answers on how long CbB will be accessible and operational if they intend to completely ditch it! What Roland and Gibson did was hard enough on dedicated Cake users! Now we are in complete limbo once more? I know that part of marketing is to keep the new products under raps so the unveil will "blow your sox off!" But when there are users that this marketing is forcing us to revisit the horrible days we went thru before and we have to worry about how to import 30 years worth of hard work into another DAW in whatever short time we have to do so, well , let's just say I feel ambivalent about this whole secretive market thingy!! Don't think that clients don't come back to remix or add tracks to a project they so called were happy with ten years ago! It happens, believe me! Now what do I do when the DAW I did this project in is dead! I have opened CbB projects now in Sonar Platinum and X3 even. They open fine but you have to backtrack and remix some things to adjust it enough to work on adding anything, not to mention some features are gone such as articulation maps, etc. The prospect of importing 30 years worth of work is dark and dreary! I love Cakewalk. They have been stellar with their support and the forum is the best people I have ever had the pleasure to hang out with. Yes, I have Pro Tools, I have Samplitude, and I have Mixbus! They serve me well but Cakewalk has been the greatest joy to work in and now I am in a position to say I would love to continue my relationship with Cake, but if we don't get answers pretty soon, I will have to close the door on it! Again, not out of anger! I'm just tired of the drama. Now, excuse me while I get back to exporting 30 years of my life to another DAW!
  5. Btw, We all know they are not free!! Just suggestions.
  6. I have been a devoted Cake user since the 90s! In view of all the confusion over the pay model, I have more and more used the alternates I have which are Samplitude and Mixbus! I can highly recommend Samplitude Suite. For bang for the buck, you can't beat it. It does have a very steep learning curve but it delivers worthwhile results. Yesterday, I got an email from Harrison that a free update was available for Mixbus and Mixbus 32c! This is the first update since SSL bought out Harrison. I don't know if SSL had a hand in developing the new features but I downloaded and installed 9.2 and it is very appealing!! I could see using this as my main DAW if it had a staff view or notation window but maybe that will come in time. Those are my suggestions because I use them alongside Cake on a weekly basis. Hope this helps someone.
  7. My profound thanks to David! I went back through the settings in Staff View and discovered that the Display Pedal Events had been unchecked along with the Display Chord Grids!! I know that I did not turn these off myself because I use multiple templates to start projects and it just didn't make sense why Pedal and Chord Grids was turned off! Anyway, thanks again to the guys and gals on this wonderful forum for your great help thru these many years!! I hope this forum doesn't disappear after the new pay version arrives!! Back to work!
  8. Thanks for the replies and I will check settings again to see if the piano markings are disabled somehow!
  9. I know there is no hope for the staff view EVER being fixed! It's always been a sore spot with me. Somewhere along the line the staff view has lost the capability to place sustain pedal info in the display!! The older projects I have loaded still show the sustain pedal events both in the event list and the Piano Roll view in the controller window but it does not show the P or * on the notation window. Also, if I press the pedal mode button to input a pedal event, it doesn't input anything! I know that this is not important enough to most users but I have read and written notation for most of my life! Things like this pedal info is crucial to piano parts and was one of the features that brought me to Cakewalk! I hope that when the pay version becomes available that you have fixed at least this important feature in the staff view. For me, I would be sadly disappointed if it's not! I would love to continue to use Cakewalk having done so since Pro Audio 9. I have stuck by this product for all this time through the Roland buyout, into the Gibson fiasco ( yes, I paid for the lifetime updates, too) and thankful that Bandlab brought us back to life! I hate having to consider working without it but this feels like being thrown under the bus again if you decide to terminate the free version at anytime! Now, one of the features is gone that I use on a regular basis and I don't think it will be fixed at all before CbB is toast. Not mad! I'm just trying to wrestle with some pretty negative feelings about something that was so positive in my life! I ask that you please consider fixing these bugs before you leave a lot of us in the lerch! Maybe you could consider continuing to make available CbB and just throw out an update 2 or 3 times a year! I know I speak for a lot of us that would be more than happy to use it until they were financially able to step up to the paid brand. Anyway, didn't mean to gripe but losing this pedal function is a pretty big deal for me. Thanks for your time and I hope you will think about fixing some of this before you cut us loose!
  10. Lord Tim mentioned a "rent to own" option for the upcoming Sonar release. Is not that the same as subscription? If you opted to rent Sonar, would it continue to work if you paid it off? I was always happy to just pay upfront and still have my older versions of Cakewalk products all the way back to 1990s!! Platinum is still on my working computers. I wish they would at least give us a ballpark figure of the price so those of us who are strapped for cash can make some sort of decision as to staying with Sonar or doing as I am doing. I am currently porting my projects in to my other DAWs so if the bottom falls out, once again with Sonar, I will be prepared! I am preparing for the worst while keeping the faith that Meng and Noel will watch our backs!!
  11. Thanks for the reply, Noel! Didn't expect to hear from upper management!?
  12. Thanks, Will.!! The family here at Cake would surely be missed!! You along with the rest here on this forum have been absolutely the best! Hopefully, the price of Sonar will be affordable and all this worrying will have been in vain!
  13. My last question is very important! If I buy a new computer after Sonar is released, will the last free version of CbB be available to me for installation on my new computer? As I understand it, CbB Free will no longer be available for download? I hope that clarified what I was asking. BTW, thanks for the quick response!
  14. Let me get this straight for myself. The last version of free CbB will still operate as usual and will be authorized every so often from here on out. It will no longer be available for download for new users from then on? And most importantly, if I purchase a new computer, I will not be able to download and install CbB once Sonar and Next is released? Please ?, Give me simple straight answers! I am grappling with having to leave CbB behind after all these years of using Cakewak, X version, then Platinum! I, truly love Cake and am saddened at the possibility of ending my almost 30 year relationship with my favorite DAW. I use other DAWs but I am a true Cakewalk fan. Please, respond!
  15. Got it!! I just switched to another theme and went back to the one I was using and it's all good!!!! Thanks, guys, for your quick response ! This is one of the reasons I stay on board with the Bakers!!!!
  16. The markers there but the color has changed to black against a dark Grey background!! How do I change the MBT markers back to white? I looked in color settings and I don't see anything familiar on the list to change just the MBT.
  17. Just what the title says!! I am working on a project this morning and out of the blue, the time rule markers just disappeared!! I tried opening other projects and still no time markers! The markers for the verses, choruses, solos, etc. are still on the empty time ruler but no M:B:T markers at all!!!! PLEASE HELP ?!!! ASAP!! I have a deadline to meet and I need to finish this ASAP!!
