If you are speaking about this article (or many like it), it's related to NAS drives in a Synology NAS Case, and it's a warning. There still seems to be discussion about if it is WD or Synology issue, but in any case, not an ideal situation. This is the part that worries me "it will also make you eligible for affordable upgrades" -- of course that be be anything.

Reading the official UAD forums, they are now not only changing what they had said/promised users , but are actively removing that language in various places (both only on their own site, but in external forums) whenever someone in the forum brings it up. Yea, their marketing certainly leaves a lot to be desired. They could be more clear.. as for perpetual it says: and then says And... I take that to mean that the effects can only be used inside Current and if you want them for other applications you need to pay for them (which makes sense).. but based on their past, I hesitate to assume that.

I don't understand vendors thinking that everyone wants to play these possibly time wasting games. I for one have no interest and it makes me want to put these vendors on my "do not buy from list" (but again, maybe it's just me - as I'm also wasting my time posting this ? )

I agree, and if I'm looking at something to buy and I have to think "time will tell", then I'm not interested. Seems like adding all the things you may want would be very expensive. Synth = $200, 8 current effects @ $49 each = $400, already $600 - and that doesn't include wavetables, sound packs or cloud access. I think they are way outside of what most people would consider (just my thoughts). So not sure they really did themselves any favors with this new pricing.
