I really liked how all the instruments came in and out, and supported each other. Plus I liked that the chords changed in spots that were ever so slightly irregular. Very calming and wonderfully so. Mixwise, maybe a bit more reverb on the acoustic guitar, just to get it closer to the flute's reverb? Not as much as the flute, just a bit more? I dunno. Analyzing your song takes me out of the calm vibe it creates, so that's where I'll stay! cheers, -Tom

Nice one, I immediately felt a Springsteen vibe, might have just been the instrumentation and the chords. He wouldn't really sustain in the chorus vocals that much. But your tune is certainly catchy and memorable. The mix could I think use just a bit of brightening and if you were to look for a culprit to cut the mud, the minimal mud, it might be the bass guitar. If you listen to the "breakdown bridge" when the bass is not playing, the mix opens up and breathes in that section. Maybe try dipping out some 300ish hz outta the bass? Just a little might help it fill less. I listened on headphones FWIW. Writing a pointedly political anthem is a great way to cope but I wouldn't hold my breath on converting anyone. Also, FWIW! cheers, -Tom

I thought it was great. Loved the video, and the use of organic instruments. You might consider bringing the taiko or frame drum or whatever you had going there up a tad in the mix, they are a little light - would give the whole piece a bit more lower range heft. Just a thought. Well done Pcode! cheers, -Tom

On the vsl synchron steinway, it seems like it doesn't do dry very well? Lots of room baked into the samples?

Dark Era = awesome. What's the diff between Best Service and Time&Space? Same stuff. Same exclusives, same sales . . .? Just wondering.
-
Middle and Dark Ages, here I come. Oh, wait, it's 2020 so already there.
-
That was my opinion as well, thanks for the backup!

#me too, pro q3 on every track . . . and I've always wondered if that somehow sets me back. Having the same " sonic imprint" on each track? I think that's a thing with preamps. Not sure about eq? Another worthy is the pro L2 limiter, with its up to 32x oversampling which will eat your CPU for breakfast. 8x works a treat.

That's what I figured so I bought it already! Thanks for the heads up!

How is it on cpu? Sounds like a great find!

Well, my EZxperience was I bought in, with 5 or six libraries, and eventually got underwhelmed by the baked-in EZ sound, by which time I realized for about the same money I coulda and shoulda just bought into SD3, which I eventually did . . . YMMV of course, but now my EZ stuff just sits there collecting silicon dust, and I wasted money buying drums twice. The midi files that came with the EZ stuff will certainly work triggering SD3 but they are all like 2 bars long, much shorter than the 8 bar phrases SD3 gives you. So just a word to the fence sitters out there . . .

Looks good but my studio is at best -
$42.98 @ Audiodeluxe.com, plus I had 7 AudioDeluxeBucks, so 35. Not bad for this level of tool! . . . which is what they say when I gig . . .

I demoed this and like it, a great tool but the compression is beyond clean and clinical. It isn't meant to be a character compressor, but wow it's just so damn squeaky clean. I guess you put it on first, then muck up the signal with color later. Does something else do what this does, only with character? That would be interesting . . .

I tend to use it on sources that need a bit more low and mid presence. I wouldn't feature it on cymbals. I like how it thickens my nasally vocal! Great wet/dry blend. I usually run it at about 70%, anything higher starts to crush stuff. The downside might be CPU usage, it's not light, and you can't dial it back with any oversampling settings, there are none.
-
Tell me what you think because I can't use that thing enough, just love it.
-
Well, would you say the choices on offer all focus on mixing rock, or modern pop? Did you notice any that focus on mixing jazz, funk, or edm stuff? Or classical/soundtrack type stuff? Not to say there wouldn't be any overlap . . .

Ah, Bill. The remedy is simple. If you don't like the terms and conditions YouTube offers you, you are free to sashay off and create your own multi-billion dollar market-crushing video platform behemoth. Or, Vimeo, the ugly stepbrother they hide under the stairs. Or if you can dance and have the attention span of a microbe, TikTok.

A nice freebie for you crackle addicts.

That would explain the cpu! Is this comparable in sound quality to omnisphere? Or do you buy in at the first price and then spend more for ad packs up the wazoo? I'll check the demo so I'm not a total ***** . . . just an initial question . . .
-
Yes, especially considering how incredibly dangerous it was to sample the round robins.

. . . resurrecting "Blind Platypus" just to say, take a breath, Larry! It's only Wed 11/18 !!! Pace yourself ! Hydrate! At this rate, will there be anything of Larry left by Dec 24th? Seriously, if you stroke out, about a thousand weekend warriors will be seriously and irreparably bummed . . . and 2020 is bad enough as it is!
