i got the Focusrite "updated drivers" email as well. I have a first-gen 2i4. The last time I tried their updated driver, it caused all kinds of issues. I rolled back at that time and am still using the original driver with no problems. Pretty disappointing that it seems to be an issue AGAIN.

Well… The computer BSOD went from bad to worse, no matter what I did. Death spiral. So, my ol' Dell 3rd gen i5 3450 has moved on to the great silicone ranch in the sky. It served me well for 8 years, from my office then down-streamed into the music room. Fortunately, I back up my data to an external drive. The good news is, I have the chance to buy a new DAW computer. I've had good luck with Dell for years, so that's where I'll go again. All I’ll use it for is recording/mixing. Web browsing when needed. Any tech-savvy advice for getting the most bang for the buck appreciated! I know it’s a balance of budget versus performance. I’m thinking CPU speed is Job 1. Thoughts? I’ll have at least 16 gigs of DDR4 Ram. My go to plug-ins are typically Waves, Izotope, SoundToys and a couple of Eventide. And I also do some MIDI and run virtual instruments, primarily Kontakt and Addictive Drums. No matter what I get, I’m going to install a Samsung NVMe SSD to run the OS and CbB (should I also run all the plugins and VSTi’s off of it?) I'm looking at at clean start on the configuration... Thanks for any wisdom on the technical stuff...

+1 would also love to access drum maps if available to the community. I got EZ Drummer, AD2 and Slate.

Thanks everyone. I’m going to start with the VST reset/rescan and hope that takes care of it. Would prefer not to have to open the hood of the OS and start mucking around. The problem seemed to start when I added a particular VSTi plugin. CbB locked up and crashed, then the other issues started kicking in. I can’t open the project to remove that VSTi to see if that makes a difference. Hopefully the reset will clear it up. I’ll post back when I do this. Appreciate the help. Billy

Hope someone can help.... I'm randomly running into the Blue Screen of Death after the latest Windows update (Version 1903) when launching the latest CbB version., 2019/07. I seem to be able to launch CbB projects with low track counts and plugins (hit or miss), but not the hefty one I'm in the middle of. Crashes every time with references to problem plugin.dlls spread among the ones in the project. The blue screen says this... STOP CODE: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA. I have no idea what that means. I tried to troubleshoot based on this: https://www.tomshardware.com/news/how-to-fix-page-fault-error-windows-10,36234.html The "scan now" function resulted in this message: Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. For online repairs, details are included in the CBS log file located at... and it showed me where the log is on my hard drive. Opened it; again no idea what it's telling me. I'm running the latest Windows 10 home edition on an SSD. The next thing on the troubleshooting list suggests setting a custom size for the page file. To what? It doesn't say. I have 32 gigs RAM. Any ideas what I should try next? Thanks...

Thanks for this. I was struggling with this very thing yesterday, trying to insert a sustain pedal on/off in PRV to keep chords from overlapping/ running into each other, as one would do with an actual pedal on a piano. Lots to learn in midi. One thing the manual referenced was paying attention to what the event filter on the track is set to. I’ll have to explore that further. Thanks again.

I have KRK6 monitors and there is absolutely no noise problem. Very first thing to do is run balanced cables. I don’t think RCA cables are balanced so that could be a problem if your interface only has RCAs out. EDIT: I see you solved.

I have no problems with CBB and Waves plugs. But I think the Waves shell I’m using is up to something like version 9. If you launch waves central, it will check to see if you need to update anything.

This. I was having MIDI note weirdness and increased the buffer size to 2500 and haven’t had a problem since. If your buffer’s too low notes can get passed by unprocessed.

I’ve been watching lots of YouTube vids comparing headphones. This is one of the best I’ve come across. Compares AKG 702, Beyerdynamic DT 990 PRO and Sennheiser HD 58X. Definitely worth a watch/listen.

Thanks. I should mention I do have Sonarworks headphone reference calibration plugin for whatever I buy. However, the 702's look really interesting and just a touch more expensive. The DT880's only come in 250 and 600 ohm, which doesn't seem to be a good match for my Focusrite Scarlett 2i4? The DT 990 and the AGK 702 are 80 and 62 ohm, respectively. Opinions on this thread in response to my post seem to vary widely; it seems to come down to defining what "drive" means relative to sound quality given the source that's "driving" the cans.

Haven’t pulled the trigger on anything yet but am zeroing in on beyerdynamic DT 990 PRO Open-Back, (80 Ohm). Anyone have any experience with these?

Then, there’s always this recommendation, apparently an industry rule of thumb when matching headphone impedance to the output-source impedance: ”...we recommend following the rule of thumb, known in the audio industry as the 1/8th rule - the output impedance of the audio source headphones are connected to must be 1/8th or less than the input impedance of the connected headphones. For example, if you have headphones with 32 Ohm input impedance (e.g. default in-ears coming with Samsung Galaxy 8, BOSE QC35 in passive, wired mode), the output impedance of the audio source should be 4 Ohms or less (1/8th of 32 is 4). Thanks everyone for weighing in with experiences, thoughts and insights. I found solid guidance as well on the Focusrite site, since I have a 2i4 interface. Specifically, by interface line, they report: As a general rule, higher impedance headphones require more power from the headphone output of your interface than lower impedance headphones. If unsure of what to purchase follow these general guidelines, though you may find that our products can actually drive higher impedance headphones than the values listed below without issue: - For all Bus Powered Scarlett interfaces (Solo, 2i2 and 2i4), iTrack Solo and Saffire 6 USB look for headphones with a maximum impedance of 200 ohms. - For all mains powered Scarlett interfaces (6i6, 8i6, 18i6, 18i8 and 18i20) look for headphones with a maximum impedance of 250 ohms. - For all Clarett (USB and Thunderbolt variants) and Red (Thunderbolt) interfaces, headphones with impedances of up to 600 ohms will be fine. https://support.focusrite.com/hc/en-gb/articles/210708269-What-impedance-headphones-should-I-use-with-my-audio-interface- Always something to learn...
