Starship’s ‘We Built This City’: Really The Worst?
Notes_Norton replied to kitekrazy1's topic in The Coffee House
I have no love for "We Built This City". Grace was decent in the Airplane but IMHO became a watered down copy of herself as time went on. Worst ever song? That's like saying what is the best song. While there are hundreds you could put in both categories, it's hard to pick the winner (or loser). We do a song that is frequently on the top 10 worst rock song lists, "Surfin' Bird" by The Trashmen. For some unknown reason it was popular. We do it as shtick. We announce it as one of the top 10 worst, exaggerate it, flap our arms in the air, act silly and keep it short. In the right club at the right time it goes over quite well. Even older than that, Johnny Horton's "The Battle Of New Orleans" was one of those songs where I couldn't get to the station change button quick enough. "Henry the Eighth" by Herman's Hermits anyone? "Revolution 9" by The Beatles? "Feelings"? "Having My Baby"? "Achy Breaky Heart"? "Who Let The Dog's Out"? "Mambo Number 5" ? (The Lou Bega song, not the Perez Prado original) IMHO these are all much worse than that Starship song. "We Built This City" to me is just boring, these others border on irritating. :D Insights and incites by Notes -

"Let's Go Get Stoned" - originally recorded by The Coasters, made famous by Ray Charles and that version was covered successfully by Joe Cocker - too many more covers to mention them all.

With the instruments, it's my own fault. Sometimes things just take too long to learn. With computer it's an entirely different story. Inside that little block of plastic there is an evil being, watching me, just waiting for the worst time to cause trouble, and then when I really need it, and need it in a hurry, almost life and death, it craps out. I've had the urge to do that to every instrument I've ever owned - and add computers as well. However, I've only shouted great obscenities at them so far.

Didn't get the connection between Centerfold and Beat It - but I've been known to be dense from time to time. Here's an obscure (for good reason) blast from the bygone ages of psychedelic rock: "I Can Beat Your Drum" - Fever Tree

The longest audio project ever or hold on a second?

I guess I take my pick of the two ? I like Chicago and Muddy Waters and both are associated with Sweet Home Chicago (although I don't know what association that one had with Fox On The Run - please explain Steve so I can get it) I'll pick Baby Please Don't Go to associate with: Baby Baby - Amy Grant Please folks, be kind to thick headed folks like myself. If your association to the song above you isn't obvious, make a note and explain it so I can get the association and join the fun. Thanks!

I can get to 11 if I put my hands in my pockets (OK it's adolescent, but who says I can't go through a second childhood - I'm a musician - but since I am a musician, I figure I haven't finished my first childhood yet) -
