  1. Nah, and quite a few are gone to the great gig in the sky by now.
  2. Time for some late 70s fusion jazz... Michael Colombier - (self-titled album) With folks like Michael Brecker, Lee Ritenour, Herbie Hancock, Jaco Pastorius, Michael Boddicker, Larry Carlton, Tom Scott and other giants of the day. It's like an old friend. I'm past this kind of music now, but revisiting it is definitely fun.
  3. Beach Boys aren't boys anymore. New Kids on the Block aren't kids anymore Young Rascals are neither young nor rascals anymore Kid Rock ain't no kid no more New Edition is old if the Four Freshmen haven't graduated by now they are the Four Flunkies moral: be careful when naming your act if you expect to hang around for a few decades
  4. You are getting deeper and deeper into a trance - you will go to nortonmusic.com and buy all my products for Band-in-a-Box, then you will forget that you read this message. :D Seriously, that was a fun illusion. I just had to share it with y'all. Notes
  5. This is a cool optical illusion - it has nothing to do with music - watch at your own risk!!! I would think if you have epilepsy or some other challenge, you might not want to watch this. Stay focused reading the words, one letter at a time, don't take your eyes off them, and when the video is over, you might have a trippy hallucination for a few moments. Watch full screen if you want
  6. Occupational dilemma of one who makes his living playing music. I never get to hear anyone live unless they are playing on the same bill as me. Why? Whenever someone comes to town, I'm gigging. (I'm not complaining though, I'd really rather play than listen). Notes
  7. Glad your safe. Feed those goats something special (whatever the goat equivalent of an ice cream sundae is), they deserve it!!!
  8. I'm not often fond of mostly one-chord songs, but I've always liked that one ^ More about fame.... Celebrity Skin - Hole
  9. Crosseyed Cat - Muddy Waters Because every now and then a little Muddy is good for one's soul. With Muddy, James Cotton, Pinetop Perkins, Johnny Winter and the rest of the gang, the blues doesn't get better than this. I'd love to have played sax on this session.
  10. Airegin - Sonny Roliins (association: Airegin is Nigeria spelled backwards)
  11. I've got a CD of Tuvan Throat singing, and it's amazing when one guy can sing 3 notes at once. "The Lady Is A Trump" - Buddy Greco live on vocals and piano - this is how it's done.
  12. During Frances, Ivan, and Jeanne we were out 10 days each. Fortunately we have generators and the neighborhood all pitched in to help those without. We discovered him in the 80s while working on the cruise ships. The "Buster Poindexter" version of his Hot Hot Hot was IMHO wimpy by comparison. Notes
  13. We just have hurricanes around here. I'm lucky we don't have fires (except survivable brush fires), earthquakes and mudslides. Stay safe and keep us informed. Don't do anything foolish, except here on the forum. (the original version)
  14. "Sleeping Single In A Double Bed" - Barbara Mandrell
  15. "The Cat" - Jimmy Smith Great B3 playing, excellent guitar work by Kenny Burrell and awesome arrangements by Lalo Schifrin. One of my favorite Jimmy Smith albums.
  16. Black Coffee - kd lang (Jazz standard - I know Sarah Vaughan did it first but kd did a stellar job and I like it)
  17. How about Lambert, Hentricks and Ross - "Cloudburst" John Hendricks can sing faster than anybody I know and still make music out of it - be-bop vocals:
  18. I'd Love to Change the World - Alvin Lee & Ten Years After
  19. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K2VWDYo8gGc it won't embed for some reason :(
  20. How about some Luiz Bonfa playing Luiz Bonfa - the picture is bad but the guitar playing is great
  21. My dad quit smoking when I was young, and with the money he didn't spend on smoking he bought one LP per week. Mostly Big Band, Western Swing, and Sinatra era pop music. Good stuff. Mom liked Broadway show tunes, as a child I didn't appreciate them as much as my dad's music, but as I got older I learned how to listen to them. My parents never discouraged my from listening to rock and even liked some of the songs. My dad played trumpet, violin, ukulele and organ. I never heard him play trumpet or violin, but we had a lot of fun singing along while he played the uke. I guess if he had Band-in-a-Box he might have played the monophonic instruments more. On with the association game. Last post was "Walter Murphy - A Fifth of Beethoven" - how to get us out of Beethoven? This might work. "King Stephen Overture (König Stefan Overture)" - Beethoven George Szell conducting the Cleveland Orchestra
