  1. Consistently rated in the top 10 worst rock songs ever recorded (we play it and the audience loves it) and the video is even worse.... watch it at your own risk Surfin' Bird - The Trashmen
  2. Samba de Verao aka Summer Samba aka So Nice - this version by Eliane Elias Jazz standard I think first done by Walter Wanderly, I'm not fond of that version, and I think Eliane does a nice job.
  3. The phrase "pipe down" was probably invented to get bagpipers to stop.
  4. I can't say I dislike it, as I've never eaten there, but I don't love it either. I don't eat at fast food places. Life is too short to eat mediocre food. I think the last time I ate fast food it was Burger King, and it was probably over 35 years ago. When I eat out, I want the food cooked fresh, with good ingredients, the way I like it, and served to me at my table. I guess that puts me in the weirdo minority, but I've been strange and not like the others since I was a kid. I guess that's why I'm happy being a career musician. Notes
  5. Thanks Eric - I guess I didn't understand because I never used them. I'll check it out.
  6. "Summer Wind" - Frank Sinatra We learned this for a club owner. It was her favorite song and she hired us a lot, so it was important to learn it. I must say I really enjoy singing it and if played at the right time and the right gig, it goes over well with our audience.
  7. "Diamond Girl" - Seals & Croft (you know how this one goes)
  8. I have about 10,000 songs on my digital Walkman which I use in the car because the radio stations around here don't play enough variety. This one played on the way to the gig yesterday, and I forgot just how good Barbra was when she was young. "He Touched Me" - Barbra Striesand
  9. "Dallas" - Johnny Winter Nice guitar work by Mr. Winter - I like his acoustic work even better than his electric playing
  10. "Radar Love" - Golden Earring I was pleasantly surprised years ago when I found out these guys were from The Netherlands.
  11. Hurry, Hurry, Hurry - Golden Earrings In a Rush? Then hurry up
  12. Carol Kaye is one of my bass influences. She supports the song and never gets in the way. She is an accomplished guitarist as well.
  13. I've never used drum maps. I record drums live using a MIDI percussion controller in real time. That way they get the proper groove. After I record, I might separate them to different tracks for further tweaking and massaging. IMO the best way to record anything is to do it in real time. Of course, there is more than one right way to make music. Insights and incites by Notes
  14. "Angel Of The Morning" - Merilee Rush & The Turnabouts The original and IMHO the better version of this song.
  15. Stay in front of that lousy franken-food and you will get skinnier by the minute!!!
  16. Bagpipes were a Greek invention. They passed them on to the Romans who went all the way to the British Isles to dump them and get them as far away as possible. (True geography, embellishments by me.)
  17. Q. Why do bagpipers always march while playing? A. To get away from the noise.
  18. Various guitar solos by Sister Rosetta Tharpe The first "rock" guitar goddess???
  19. "Ruby, My Dear" - Thelonious Monk & John Coltrane
  20. Tropicana Nights -Paquito D'Rivera A nice alto sax player ex-pat from Cuba playing an album of 1950's Cuban inspired music.
  21. It's Fat Tuesday / Mardi Gras so the playlist should include: Dr John's Gumbo album and other NOLA songs Some Professor Longhair Huey "Piano" Smith Frankie Ford Rockin' Sidney ("Toot Toot") Fats Domino And whoever else I think of.
  22. "Devil Or Angel" - The Clovers reaching way back to the dawn of rock n roll
