  1. Pistol Packin' Mama - The Andrews Sisters with Bing Crosby
  2. I started on drums, switched to sax. On the road with rock bands I learned to cover parts with bass, keys, and rhythm guitar for those songs where the songwriter didn't have the ultimate wisdom to include a sax part. Later I taught myself vocals, wind synth, and my latest, lead guitar. I played bass for a while in the psychedelic era when saxes were not in demand, and even played bass for Freddie "Boom Boom" Cannon for a short series of concerts. Bass is a fun instrument too. I think the sax will do a lot of things the guitar cannot do, but then the guitar will do a lot of things the sax won't do. Sax will always be my primary instrument, so if it makes a comeback in pop music, I'll be very happy about that. Notes
  3. The great Annie Ross just died, so here is some Lambert, Hendricks and Ross for today: Twisted - Lambert, Hendricks & Ross
  4. If you don't know the difference between there, their and they're, your an idiot.
  5. I love me some Muddy Waters music. Muddy wrote this song that is a take off of "I'm A Man" by Bo Diddley. It's close but far enough so that he didn't pay royalties to Bo or get sued for plagiarism (as far as I know). So I present the Bo Diddley song but done by one of my favorite 1960s guitar bands, The Yardbirds (and a live cut I couldn't get to embed but I like the studio version better) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nLIzRBelEf8
  6. The video looks more underwater than underworld ? so,,,, Aqualung - Jethro Tull
  7. Organic Colombian, medium roast, whole bean ground at home, stevia sweetner and organic heavy whipping cream. Goes great with becan and eggs. The reason why I started grinding the coffee myself is because I read a test where along with the ground coffee were ground roach and other insect parts. It's legal up to 10% in volume, but the tests ran about 5%. The bugs get in the huge storage vats and get ground with the coffee. Now I'm no vegetarian and don't mind a little extra protein now and then, but I'm paying for coffee. It's like getting stems and seeds in your weed. Notes
  8. My friend won't leave California despite the earthquake risk. He is loyal to a fault.
  9. Yes, they'd rather believe a real estate salesman, a self-appointed preacher, a faux news pundit, an anti-vaxxer, or a flat earther than the scientists who are experts in the field of communicable diseases and who learned from their predecessors who defeated polio, smallpox, diphtheria, and many other great plagues of the past. I don't understand why. Notes
  10. "Well, You Needn't" - Thelonious Monk I like the playful dissonances.
  11. Guitar is my 7th instrument, my newest. It's very challenging on on hand, and rewarding on another. The thing to remember is: There will always be people who play better than you There will always be people who play worse than you The thing to do is practice to get better and have fun playing at your current level. They call it PLAYing music for a reason. Don't worry about the people who are better than you, just strive to keep climbing the curve. Don't feel bad for or smug about the people who are worse than you. Instead hope they are having fun at their level. Insights and incites by Notes PS I find it harder to read music on the guitar, but way easier to transpose something. Every instrument gives you challenges, but it also gives you gifts.
  12. It's the rainy season and the thunderstorms are frequent so it's a good time for this great rock song: Thunder And Lightning - Chi Coltrane
  13. "Back At The Chicken Shack" - Jimmy Smith & Stanley Turrentine IMO anyone who plays B-3 organ or a synth emulation owes a debt to Mr. Smith, and Mr. Turrentine is one of my top 10 all-time favorite tenor sax players.
  14. Don't You Just Know It - Huey 'Piano' Smith And The Clowns Some ancient New Orleans R&B/Rock n Roll I played in a previous band. It brings back good memories of some old friends I haven't seen for years and lost touch with.
