  1. Europa - Santana & Gato Barbieri I used to play Gato's version of Europa on sax, I don't play guitar well enough to do Santana's version (yet), and since it is Carlos' song I might be interesting to hear them do it together. I'm clicking play along with you, they are both great musicians, let's see if the click together
  2. Recommendation please: A good camera for live performance. We're really missing gigging, and many of our 'extended family' of fans have been asking us to record performances and put them on YouTube. So we're thinking about setting up, putting a stationary camera on a tripod, and recording some live performances. The camera would be stationary as we have no one to run it, especially in COVID times, and if possible I'd like to take a balanced output of my PA and feed that into the camera directly. If not I suppose an external mic might be a good option unless the camera itself has a good mic. Since we are unemployed, I don't want to break the bank on this, but want decent quality. Any suggestions? Thanks, Notes
  3. I went to a smoke shop to discover that it has been replaced by an apparel store... Clothes, but no cigar.
  4. Mr. P.C. - John Coltrane It's his tribute to Paul Chambers, his long time bass player
  5. I saw an ad for burial plots, and thought to myself "This is the last thing I need."
  6. There is more than one measure of a hurricane. The hurricane of 1968 killed a 1,000 people in Florida, but they built a dike around lake Okeechobee and kept the death toll down when stronger hurricanes came through and the population had grown. The dike saved lives, but at the cost of the wildlife and ecology of the Everglades (you seldom get something for nothing). Laura one went from TS to Cat 4 in record time. I'm not an alarmist, or a left or right winger. I'm a lifelong moderate who thinks the folks at both ends of the spectrum are out of bounds. But when I see storms as massive and destructive as Andrew, Sandy, and Laura being so huge and forceful, an upward trend in the number of major storms per year, a general upward trend in the total number of storms per year, and the water temperatures (fuel) being warmer they have been since we started measuring it, it's easy to put 1+1 together. I'm not going to go out on a limb and say what is causing them to be stronger, as the scientists at the Miami Hurricane center (who also believe they are getting stronger) have several theories, all of which have multiple causes. I live in a hurricane zone, so I watch them intensely, read a lot about them, and have the hurricane center in Miami bookmarked, it's survival. I've survived quite a few (so far - so good). And RobertWS, I do believe we are living in great times, but I'm not going to put on rose colored glasses and pretend it utopia. I still think we can make it better, and in the long run we will make it better. But I'm confused as to what that has to do with hurricanes? We have earthquakes, tsunamis, tornadoes, volcanoes and hurricanes during the best and worst of times. Notes
  7. Wibbles yes, a cheery little number. Even though it's not the blues genre by any stretch of the imagination, it's the blues spirit. Two great posts Pragi One good Dr John deserves a full album - my favorite Dr John album (although I haven't heard but a few of them). IMO there isn't a bad cut on it, in fact, there isn't even a mediocre cut on it, they range from very good to great. Dr. John's Gumbo (full album)
  8. Start=begin Begin The Beguine - Artie Shaw It's a Cole Porter song, written with a Latin American Beguine rhythm, but Artie Shaw turned it into one of the greatest swing jazz songs. The guy who posted it spelled begin wrong https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Begin_the_Beguine
  9. Leilani turned me on to this. Lara Fabian puts every bit of soul and passion into this tune. I don't mind that it's French, I listened to it twice, first without the subtitles, I didn't need them to hear the music, the artistry and the passion. Second time I read the English subtitles to find out what she was singing about. Highly recommended by me... Je suis malade - Lara Fabian
  10. Didn't get the association (I can be dense at times) but I'll go with it anyway... Meet Me In Church - Solomon Burke
  11. I've been here for 63 years, and I've ridden through quite a few of them, and I have never seen storms brew up to cat 4 that quickly, nor have I seen the gulf water that warm. I'm not repeating what some pundit with an agenda is telling you, I'm relating what I've seen with my very interested eyes since I live on the coast of Florida. So yes, I repeat, these storms are getting nastier and nastier. 500, 1,000 years ago I wasn't here and there is no conclusive evidence because we have no records of wind measuring and tidal surge from then. Whoever is telling you that is guessing, with no evidence to prove it. Notes
  12. Great to hear you are well Bill. These storms are just getting nastier and nastier. That gulf is like a hot tub right now.
  13. San Francisco Girls - Fever Tree 'twas a cult classic in it's day
  14. Piotr Tchaikovsky: Capriccio Italien - Antal Doráti / Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra It's a great piece of music IMO. The varied ways Tchaikovsky put the "da da da da" (later "ta ka ta ta" when the trumpets get it) monotone theme in the rhythm and countermelody parts is very creative. The more you listen, the more you find it hiding. And in the middle is a part the Moody Blues copped pretty closely for "Question"
  15. twins? doubles? Double Trouble - Otis Rush Good ol' Chicago blues
  16. Two blood cells fell in love, but it was all in vein.
  17. Did it again. After watching a half dozen or so on UTube I forget which ones were posted. Oh well, twice as nice. Willow Weep For Me - Harry "Sweets" Edison One of my favorite trumpet players from the "cool School" era.
  18. Crosseyed Cat - Muddy Waters with Johnny Winter
  19. I just found out I'm colorblind. The diagnosis came completely out of the purple.
  20. Thanks for the Pomplamoose. I heard them a long time ago, and they've come a long way since then.
  21. Putin Will Teach You How To Love - Pu$$y Riot
