A Moment of Softube Absurdity - brought to you by Plugin Boutique
Jacques Boileau replied to Larry Shelby's topic in Deals
I predict we will see you in the group buy then! ? Not that any of my prediction ever came through though.... ? -
I agree. But in your case, buying AT5SE brings all the new feature and ALL the amps you already have with AT4MAX into the new environment. Your amps are upgraded and your cabinet are also upgraded. AT5SE is a little over a third of the price of AT5MAX. IIRC, AT5SE was especially created for those who have all they need gear wise in AT4 and want to bring everything into the 5 environment. So the path for AT4MAX owner is more AT4MAX to AT5SE or AT5 if you want the new amps in there. To me the user interface of 5 is a big step ahead of 4. I also use AT5CS like you and have bought AT4 (not max) plus a few collections including both SVX in the past. I am a guitar player but use the SVX stuff for my band's bass player tracks. I would love to tell you that it's worth it to go to AT5SE but haven't jumped yet.
-
... and access to the mixer section which you have lost from AT4 going to AT5CS.
-
If I already have the gear I need through having AT4 and collections, is there any incentive in getting AT5 over AT5SE functionality wise? Apart from AT5 having more gear, anything else added over AT5SE? I have been using AT5CS for a while and miss not having access to VIR and the mixer, so thought ATSE would be enough?

They are already there, check your account under promotions. You will see all 3 of them. Click on 'available' and choose your free product... 3 times! Edit: oops, didn't see this was already answered before posting...
-
Done! 3 free products!
-
That's what I meant by 'cabinet technology'. Is it also different for the amps and other gear sound? I thought these where upgraded in CS...
-
You realise that the free version does not have the new cabinet technology? If you have only been playing with AT5 and not AT5CS you might not have had a chance to hear the difference. I am still using AT5CS at the moment and I would upgrade to AT5SE to get that.

It will be easy to gauge: we need one tier a day for the next 22 days... unless... they extend the group buy as they have done in the past! The suspense is killing me! Or maybe I should just take a few deep breaths and get a life! ? Maybe make some music with what I already have? Naaaa! Let's refresh the counters page one more time! ?
-
Yeah, we made it! 2006! You guys can pick your second freebie!
-
Nope, still stuck at 1953. Peter said it would be tomorrow for the next freebie. He is probably holding the counter 'till midnight to make his prediction come true! ?
-
Hey, who's counting anyway? ... oops we all are actually... 1657 this morning, I predict one more free item by the end of the day!
-
If you have got cash too loose, this is the place! I imagine you have already bowed to king Larry?
-
I didn't know we had to actually need something to enter!?!?!?! No one told me about that rule! ?
-
So for those waiting: you run the risk of missing the deadline if some more important stuff draws your attention towards the end! ? Why put off to tomorrow what you could do today! Geez I'm pathetic... ?
-
You realize you have to buy something, not on sale, to get free stuff? I have nothing to complain about this sale personally, I am very happy with it and participating in it, but you do have to buy something to get in. As the number of free items grows, you divide the cost of entry by the number of plugins you get and you get the price per plugin. This will be quite low and from previous group buy sale, probably the best deal you can ever get. As the saying goes: there is never a free lunch... but a very very cheap one is always welcomed! Thanks IK!

The OP never stated he bougth the Rocksmith cable for this. He may have had the Rocksmith game with a cable, learned and/or practice with it for a while and he is now moving up. He may have had the cable before trying out Cakewalk and it would be perfectly valid for him to think they could work together. It seems to me he is just learning like we all did before him.
-
I hope you can iron out some of the problems you are having and I sincerely hope you don't give up. We don't always have the cash to get the gear we need. But hopefully you will continue recording your songs the best you can. Sometimes it's in the not so good situations that we learn the most from. As for the Rocksmith cable, I have two of them and they have worked flawlessly since I bought Rocksmith 2014 when it came out. That would make them around 8 years old. Not bad for a crappy cable. I have played Rocksmith with my daughter quite a bit so they have gotten some mileage. But I do not use them for recording, so can't help you much with the problems you are having. They probably would work in a pintch, but an interface is certainly the way to go when it is possible for you. Have you tried using the cable with Rocksmith again to test it? I assume you have Rocksmith? Remember that 'nothing as change' is only valid until you find what has changed! You may think that nothing has changed, but on a computer, sometimes things change unexpectedly. You may want to try ejecting the Rocksmith cable, since it is usb, disconnect and reconnect it. Reboot your PC. Check the settings in asio4all, even deinstall and reinstall it. Its a pain, but if you make work again, you'll probably be able to do it if it happens again. Good luck!
-
It will, its the registration date not the bought date that counts. But there is no way to check this out beforehand, although you could ask IK support.
-
Is it just me or getting to 25 seems really out of reach? But we'll see how far we get... 4 or 5 free products would already be great, let alone 25! Anyone remember how far previous group buys went?

One more for Larry!

I'm in... for the first time!

Very pleasantly surprised. Great prog rock instrumental! A style I really enjoy. The title intrigued me and I am glad it enabled me to give it a listen. Great job! -
Where/when do you use console emulators?
Jacques Boileau replied to Scott Kendrick's question in Q&A
I don't operate a studio, I do this as a hobby and for my bandmates. I would agree that probably no client, if I had any, would ever say I have used the console emulator or not... the same for what kind of EQ I have used or reverb type or etc. The client just want the track to sound good to its ears. I guess its up to us to know what is needed to make it sound the best to them. I do think that if you can't hear the difference you should not use it. It just doesn't make sense. For me, although my earing is aging, I could tell a difference in the @Home Studio Simplified video, more so on headphones of course, and decided to do a similar test. I took the latest song I was remixing for my band and did 4 mixes. You guessed it, one without the console emulator and one for the 3 flavors of emulation. I added the emulator on all channels and busses with the controls at the default. I submitted these to the other 4 bandmates without telling them what was the difference, a blind test of sort but with the ears. ?They all could tell there was a difference and they all picked one with an emulator as their favorite. And there are other makers of console emulator, not only Cakewalk's PC. I haven't tried any other. Distortion has always been part of recording (console, tape, exciters, etc) and when used judiciously it does enhance the experience. Overused it, and it becomes an effect that may or may not sound good depending on the song. Most plugins add some distortion in some way, even the simplest EQ does. Ok, maybe a gain or routing plugin is free from imperfections... ?
