Where/when do you use console emulators?
Jacques Boileau replied to Scott Kendrick's question in Q&A
I did my test with the emulators at their default position, which is last in the Pro Channel. But it was the only thing I was using from the PC anyway, all other effects where VSTs. I also left the controls at their default, since it already added enough to my ears that way. The effect is cumulative, that's why I didn't see the point of this at first. If you put it on a single track, listen to it even in isolation, you can't hear much change let alone feel its worth it at all, unless you drive it very hard maybe. It makes a more positive effect when used subtly everywhere. If you do your test please let us know the outcome! Edit: since the PC comes before VSTs, this means that my test makes the console emulator the first thing that audio goes through. This means that if gain staging is not performed well, you might not hit the emulator at the best volume. My understanding at least... Edit2: I use it on all individual track and on all busses except the main bus. Why not the main bus? because it is not there by default. You can add it there too though. -
Not to worry it can take a beating and live through it. I know, I have done it many times before!? I'll just not feed my kids for a while, it's a good thing for them they are not living here anymore! ? Seriously, I have played enough with AT5CS and needed to get the full thing! I am a guitar player and AT is my go to amp sim. The TRacks plugins are also important since I mix my bands stuff. The keyboard instruments comes last, but anything IK is always great stuff. Your help is always appreciated Peter.

Well I decided to do some double dipping. Although I knew that I would for a while! ? I got a second entry at the 200$ level by getting Amplitube 5. I was gonna limit myself and just do SE, but the 200$ level is better for the other stuff I'll get. Thanks to this forum and the good folks at IK (that's you @Peter - IK Multimedia ! ?) my wallet isn't safe! But I will have the chance to hear the new VIR tech in action! ? After my brain relaxed and I was able to figure out the gear credit/custom shop thing you guys where talking about a few pages back, it was a little more wallet friendly than expected.

What free stuff!?!? Where, where? ? This thread is only 25 pages and KVR's thread is 27 pages! That's what we are trying to beat!
-
Yeah, the counter updated! 5 freebies! Thanks IK and all participating! ?
-
Hey, maybe, just maybe it will jump right to 6 freebies when it finally updates, who knows! ?
-
Ok, I'll go buy something to see if the counters update! ?
-
I am serious only if it is really really needed! And I think my kids are taking after me. Yesterday my wife and I where celebrating our 36th wedding anniversary and my youngest daughter congratulated my wife on putting up with me all those years. What a sarcastically funny kid... or is she? ?
-
I think I need an emoticon to be clear I am not being serious sometimes...

The counter bumping guy needs to wake up...
-
Maybe 4920 US is 4944 Canadian? ?
-
Yep, a few glitches. I would say if the number don't add up, its probably wrong. Mine add up... if I can add correctly this early!
-
Its been 56 for hours here... well since I woke up at least.

This should answer your question:
-
I was going to say: download the demo and try it to see if it's worth for you. Unfortunately, I checked, and there is no demo. ? I guess you have to go on faith then. Since AT4, IK spent a lot of time developing an improved cabinet emulation technology and redid all the cabinet responses of all their cabinets (except a few that were badly ruined in a flood). They even created a special machine to automatically create a ton of IRs with different microphones, position and angles. Now its up to you to decide if you think all that work did improve the sound quality enough and if it is relevant for you. It truly depends on how much you use Amplitube and if it would make enough of a difference for you or you are happy with the AT4 technology. You can watch a video about VIR here:
-
I'm sure it is. I was of course not serious speculating IK toying with us.
-
Yes I have seen the counters go back and forth a few times. I blame the page's refresh code for this... or someone at IK toying with us! ?If the later, I can't blame him and he must have such a grin! But no, Peter wouldn't do that to us... right? ? Even if it would be hilarious. ?

Just 2 more for 4 freebies...
-
I clicked and got it... for a second time. ? Didn't check if I already had it. This is fatter than I can take! Don't know what I will do with this much fat.

The Lurssen Mastering Console is just $10 more than AT5SE and would get me AT5SE and more. Surely worth the extra $10.
-
They will go away a month after the end of the GB, no? Not that it's any consolation...
-
Cool! I tried adding it to my cart and got the same promo code. I don't understand the concept. Wouldn't be a good idea to advertize this ahead of time?!? When you have it in your cart, you usually have already decided you are willing to pay the price. If it were advertised wouldn't it entice more people to buy it? Confused....
-
Ok, let's say, totally hypothetical, that I know someone who knows someone that had bought IK products in the past so was already in crossgrade territory, got in the group buy at the $99 level and is getting free products at $99 and below. He is now thinking of getting AT5SE because he already bought AT4 and has enough collections already, including the ones he'll get with the group buy. Is there a better way to do this than simply buy AT5SE and then pick and choose more stuff in the $149 and below range? As I said, totally hypothetical of course...

You realize how much my brain is hurting after reading the last 3 pages.... ?
-
One just a few minutes drive from my home actually! It shows how much I should get out more. ? But I was mostly thinking about the many eons ago when I looked at hardware instead of plugins...
