IK Multimedia: High CPU on latest AT5 and Lurssen
Jacques Boileau posted a topic in The Coffee House
I have done some not very scientific but still valid CPU usage tests on these two plugins. I have a good but somewhat aging PC (i7 4th generation) and unfortunately can't afford having new versions of plugins that grab much more CPU than the previous version. So, for me and for you if you need plugins to be easy on your CPU, we can choose which version we want to use. Depends if things in the release notes of the latest version are a requirement for you usage or not. Amplitube 5 - v5.0.3 and v5.1.0 For this test I created a project in Cakewalk using Basic.cwt. I then added AT5 to the audio track and left it at the default preset. I didn't play, just left it idle. I took my reading from the Cakewalk performance module. v5.0.3: Audio Processing 1.3 Engine Load 10-15% v5.1.0: Audio Processing 2.5 Engine Load 20-30% Lurssen Mastering Console - v1.1.1 and v1.0.3 For this test I have used LMC standalone because that is the way I master my stuff. I used Windows Task Manager to determine the CPU usage of the two versions while playin a song in LMC. Of course these fluctuate, but it is easy to see that there has been quite an increase in CPU usage and if you are using LMC inside Cakewalk on a big project, it may make it non usable in that scenario. It certainly did for me. v1.1.1: 6% - 7% v1.0.3: 1.5% - 2.5% -
No, the mic plugs directly into the speaker and there is a button on the speaker to start the calibration. I don't have the MTM's but I remember from reading about them when they came out. But I believe it takes it's reading from one position only, compared to 21 on the desktop.

ARC does not warn you as Sonarworks and their new sound ID does. Sienna rooms doesn't either, I believe. Would be nice for ARC to do it, but setting up a bus for correction plugins is not that hard either. It could be a nice addition to Cakewalk to let us add plugins to the hardware outputs to place these there. Just a thought.

Of course, I know it should be disabled on export and I do, but it is a valid point you made in case other readers might think otherwise. What I mean by my mix sound better using it, is that by mixing under a better listening environment my choices as mixer are easier and translate better. It is much easier to discern things when it is not overwhelmed by a too loud and muddy low end.

I picked up ARC3 in the GB, I used my calibration mic with cal file with it to balance my studio. I have been using it for a few weeks now and its a keeper! A lot less bass, but I hear much more of the rest of the mix. And it's easily defeatable if I want to hear my mix in a bass heavy environment. Probably the best way to cope with a lot less than perfect bedroom studio. At least the mix I have done with it were easier to do and sounded better.

Yep, kinda missed the meaning there! ? I'll add you right away so you can loose alongside Fleer! ?

Well, well, good Saturday morning to you all! And it is a nice Saturday morning with a brand new freebie! But you know what that means? Yes, yes, we have another looser that makes us all winners! And it's @Brian Lawler !!! Congrats to our looser! Next up: Our Man Flint Fleer! How many more can we knock off this list before it all comes to an end? The answer to this question, and none other, in less than 13 days! What!?!? No love for the dinosaur? ??? ?
-
Probably why it's still there. Some marketing guy probably said 'we need to take out all the T-Rex from all the T-Racks', so the one on the console survided the great marketing meteor! And its pretty discreet, easy to miss.
-
You got it! It's the Lurssen Mastering Console! And you too you look at your plugins from the back! ?
-
Ya, the other right! ? edit: I was looking at the plugin from the back!

Nice try, but I was talking about the logo that was on the bottom right corner of older versions of some plugins. Ex:

Hey, you know I love contests, and well since you guys have just about every IK product, here is one for you. I was a bit nostalgic of the T-Rex head on the IK plugins. I saw a few videos today that where old enough and still had the older plugins with the T-Rex head on it. ? IK has been working hard and got the T-Rex head out of all their plugins... except one! I just noticed that. Can any of you guys find which one? ?
-
Or they have plenty of new stuff and upgrades in the works to sell to everyone who get in on the GP and are now into their products!
-
See, we knew you had something to do with this bump! ? Edit: Oh, and great job btw! Thanks!
-
Yep! If it doesn't add up, try and try again! ?

Well, it is time to annonce our first looser in the guess the number of freebies contest! And, drum roll, it's @GroverKen! Of course loosing is not such a bad thing since we are all winning more freebies. So thanks GroverKen for your participation! ? Let's hope it will be a looong loosing spree! Next up: Brian Lawler! In fact, I would like that they find a way to make the extra Amplitube gear into some sort of collection(s) instead of piece wise... and of course make the collection(s) available in the GB! ?
-
Ok, I take a day with my friend the keyboard player from my band to try out some of my newly acquired IK keyboard stuff, and when I come back to the web: BANG another freebie and the participant counter seems to have hit an upward tornado! Serves me well trying my stuff before the end of the GB! I missed all of todays excitement! ?
-
Does that mean I have now zero chance of having a dance with you guys? ?
-
You're all wrong, the right answer is 251! ? Oups, 239! ?

I have a strange problem that I never encountered before. For some reason, probably some key I pressed inadvertently, but now only the first track of my project output's audio. If I use the 'dim' button I do get the rest of the tracks playing at lower volume. If I solo all the tracks, I hear all of them. But when I un-solo everything, only the first track is heard. If I use the solo button on that track it does not do anything, it's like it is in solo regardless. Anyone has a clue to what is happening? I am running the latest EA, but I don't know if it has anything to do with it.

I did warn about number 13 and that IK should just skip ahead a couple of tiers!!! ?
-
Me too, but my hearing is bad and I didn't understand what he was saying, so I went ahead with my choices! ? But seriously, when the number went high enough, I'm in twice, that I could pick all I really wanted without really needing to choose what I left on the table, was the turning point for me. Being a guitar player probably makes it easier, there is less collections items for Amplitube than there are for keyboard stuff. I do have a midi keyboard and did pickup SampleTank, Syntroniks, Sampletron and BX3, but that should be enough to hold me over until the next GB! ?? Now, for next freebies, I'll simply add to my T-Racks collection which is already pretty well stacked!
