"He is no longer with us" Ohh no. Sad...... He helped me so many times.

"this particular setting is just displayed confusing way. " I don't think it's just displaying, seems like it's referencing to whatever is selected . ASIO4ALL was at that specific place, the only reference in Cakewalk, while the native driver was selected elsewhere (in Cakewalk). The only way to get rid of it was full uninstall of ASIO4ALL. This semi-permanent solution works for now. Hopefully works till summer.

no matter what I record, playback is 1/2 a beat off.
Misha replied to Michael Nickisher's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Sal might be on the right path. I was in somewhat similar situation yesterday. Seems ASIO4ALL was the culprit. This is not the driver I use, but for some reason Cakewalk decided to use it here: Preferences > Audio > Sync and Caching instead of a native ASIO driver. Only after I uninstalled ASIO4ALL things got back to the way they should be. -
Differences Between Sonar & Cakewalk by Bandlab
Misha replied to Jerry Gerber's topic in Cakewalk Sonar
No they are not. Those some are Adobe audition? Who else? Most do offer plans to renters to monetize, offer a choice to those who can't afford or don't need it long term, but as soon as they switch to sub only "business" people start ditching them. Waves and Reason are vivid examples. Both reverted their shortsighted decisions. There are very good reasons for this, most mentioned above. It's really strange "market" strategy, especially concerning Sonar considering what AI is saying: "Cakewalk, which was once a paid DAW (previously known as SONAR), became free in 2018 after being acquired by BandLab. Despite this, it remains relatively less popular compared to other major DAWs. Cakewalk's market share is likely in the 2-4% range" -
Differences Between Sonar & Cakewalk by Bandlab
Misha replied to Jerry Gerber's topic in Cakewalk Sonar
The least what they could of done is offer a permanent unlock for current Cakewalk by bandlab for full year subscribers of new Sonar. Like 99% of cars are sold with an emergency spare tire. By not offering perpetual license and holding hostage Cakewalk by disabling activations from time to time, my trust of this company diminished greatly. Also, because Specific wording of Cakewalk discontinuation was present in FAQ at Sonar release. A particular person working for BL promised to keep us updated on this issue never responded (it's somewhere in this forum section) They suppress such conversations, which is a bad karma. -
Thanks for additional info. I've never seen a realtek installing Asio shell by itself... As I've mentioned, most likely it was installed by another DAW. Again, as long as it works, I don't want to touch anything, as I have no clue why Cakewalk keeps on switching to something else instead of Yeti specifically here : Preferences > Audio > Sync and Caching, while everywhere else in Cakewalk it is pointed to correct driver.

I think this IS the right approach. I removed ASIO4All. What I got now in Preferences > Audio > Sync and Caching are two choices #1 - Generic Low Latency ASIO Driver #2 - Yeti Pro ASIO Same deal with trying to replace #1 for #2- it switches by itself to #1 again... mystery. I think one of non-Bandlab's daws installed that Generic ASIO. Cubase? Reaper? I dunno. However, even with this Generic Low Latency Asio driver, it seems it solved the issue with ridiculous latency. The question is, should I investigate further, or follow the golden rule of not touching c#ap if it doesn't stink? My wild guess is something is up with compatibility between (ancient, but special) Yeti driver and Cakewalk and my fear is that if I try to remove that strange Generic driver, mic might not want to work at all. Could it be that Cakewalk is avoiding problematic driver in such way that it just falls back to the next available without reporting error? In any case, it is for the most part resolved, and I thank you all for giving this time!!!

Thanks for giving this a shot!! I am using official Blue ASIO driver. It's old, but seems installs & recognizes everything without the issues. I started with easiest solution and found something strange. I went into: Preferences > Audio > Sync and Caching and saw that it was syncing to ASIO4ALL.... I changed that to Yeti clicked OK, re-opened Preferences, it switched back to ASIO4ALL clicked OK (tried Apply too, same result). Could this be the issue? Is there a reason it silently switches back to ASIO4ALL? Here is a video clip of what's happening: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dp1YCTMVdr4 ------- P.S. I have an Apogee one usb mic from about 5 years ago, works like a charm. Zero issues.

With this specific question it's almost inevitable that some will offer a suggestion of interface. Just want to be clear upfront. I do have a decent interface and studio mics. This is for a different purpose. About 15 years ago I experimented with USB mic. Particularly Blue Yeti Pro. (That was way before Logi bought them). This mic had amazing features at the time, especially 24 bit recording and the fact that you can use it as USB or XLR. I've made whole bunch of recordings with this mic using USB, but switched to standard studio mics about 7 years ago. A few computers, operating systems and Cakewalk versions... I decided to re-visit the mic, as it has a very particular sound. What I found is that using XLR through interface sounded differently. Probably because of pre-amps. However, when I plugged it in as a USB device, I got the sound I was after. The problem is latency. Clips come at about 1 seconds late. If I do low buffer of even 256, starts crackling. Yes, driver is ancient, but I was wondering if this clip placement can be set somewhere globally to compensate for certain time, so future recording with this mic will respect that, unless I change it back. Again, kindly no lectures on how bad USB mics are. This is for specific purpose. Please let me know if this is possible. Thank you! P.S. I do have a very different (much newer) USB mic, it doesn't have this issue. So I believe the only solution is to use some kind of manual offset for this particular mic.

I dunno. Could be related to newest massive win update? Last few days I've noticed a different anomaly with Cakewalk UI. GUI would suddenly shrink to 1/4 size (all of it, like zoom out on whole thing) for a few seconds, then released to normal size, and be OK for the rest of the time while opened. I wonder if Win update screwed something up in graphics. Never seen this before.

Andi, "Anyway you do what you do and I do what I do." That's a wonderful idea. My post was meant for Timothy (The person who started this thread) and whoever else might have similar questions. Definitely not a happy camper such as yourself.

Andi, You compiled 2 answers into one? One potato + One apple = Two tomatoes? Re-read. I am talking about Cakewalk. CbB - CAKEWALK BY BANDLAB.

Now I know what kept me from subscribing! Can I only opt for CASH and PRIZES? Ohh, another question please. How much CASH? #1 kind of contradicts #3 , but OK objectional. But most important question you should ask is, if Bandlab will deactivate your Cakewalk license at some point indefinitely, making it inoperable if you decide to go with Cakewalk instead of Sonar. It is a very gray area that no one who works for Bandlab answered so far. Not here, not when asked directly through "proper" company emails.

John is wonderful! Epic video!

Dear Andi Rock. #1 people complain about lifetime licenses and Gibson saga, yet some saying how great and trustworthy bandlab is. I am just an observer. All I am saying, time will show, if the boss keeps the written word. If I live that long to find out of course. #2 I am ready to purchase a Sonar licence if it's priced similar to competitors, to show my support. Or even pay for current version of Cakewalk with a promise that it will not spy on me and activation will not expire. I am not interested in pay per view entertainment. If you like current model, great for you. It's just I will not rent software.
-
In the first Bandlab public letter email Mr. Meng mentioned "decades" (as in plural), as far as Cakewalk by Bandlab goes . To be true to his words, he (Mr. Kuok Meng Ru) needs to have it available for "free" at least until 2038, as letter was signed by him. Sonar is a different product. And if they decide to sell normal licenses, I will be among first in line. Not under current circumstances. Likely this will get locked soon, so if you wish(Sock Monkey) , PM me and I will locate and show you a copy of that letter, if you never received it.

Maybe even something special for us, loyal users that still have hope for something that we are not allowed to speak of? That would be a pleasant surprise...
-
Wookie, it is obvious as day you have a very certain degree of prejudice against me. Publicly and privately. Please don't go that route and think about wisdom of words mentioning KARMA that you proudly showcase in your signature. It was a wording mistake, but the point is, OP wanted to Purchase software(his/ her words) Meaning, pay for something that doesn't expire and will not stop working as current rental version of Sonar. At least that was my understanding of what OP was trying to convey. Instead of poking me, do the honors and explain to OP yourself benefits and disadvantages of current model of Sonar licensing.
-
Since nobody clarified in plain language to OP, and to prevent a possible buyer remorse situation, I will. Seems like new Sonar is a great DAW, but you can not buy it. This is what you are trying to do Ludi, Buy it... Right? You can only buy subscription (rent) new Sonar. Stop paying = Sonar will no longer work. If you are OK with this, go for it! It was said on multiple occasions that company is considering sale of permanent licences, but as of now there are no updates.

"The team is working on implementing a perpetual license offer and considering offering the product to be activated forever should a user buy the yearly membership plan. As the product is still under early access, more details regarding the appropriate pricing and plugin bundles are being fleshed out. So we recommend you consider whether you wish to take up the annual subscription now or in the future when things are more concrete." Circa April 2024.

I wish they would come up with at least a compromise, for those of us who will not rent. For example: Rent Nu Sonar for a year - get a permanent unlock patch (no pull plug de-activation) for Cakewalk by Bandlab. I guess, it would be clear where this is heading after a full year cycle from the time of release. Patiently waiting....

Thanks all for comments & suggestions! I guess one of the issue that I am having difficulty with is that my vocals are muddy (by nature:) ) and they get tangled in with many other instruments. I will give it another vocal try and will try to address frequency space for each instrument and harder guitar panning. Thanks again!

Mark, in my 20+ year DAW journey I discovered that cores and RAM do play a role... but not as important as certain chip architecture. To put in a perspective. A few years ago I bought Thinkpad Xtreme (laptop) i7 9000 series processor, nvme 64 ram, 12 core (!) . It was a top of the line back then, but it struggled with intensive plugins. Something like multi plugin for example Izotope Neutron or Ozone would just have continuous dropouts, even at highest buffers, with internet disconnected and system running very slim. Number of cores played almost no role in my case. I tried balancing cores dedicating specific cores for Cakewalk use - no difference in performance. I spent so much time "optimizing" that machine, it's not funny. I gave up and got a different Thinkpad (Thinkbook). It's not top line and graphics are pretty standard, but seller had fantastic return policy so I decided to take a chance... For testing purposes of the new machine, I've made a project with several (!) instances of Ozone and other plugins with "lookaheads" and it run absolutely fine. It can handle 50+ tracks with about 30 medium & heavy weight plugins/synth without any issues. The only time I get a dropout now if I do something stupid. So, for consumer/prosumer machine it is awesome. The processor is 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-12700H 2.30 GHz. The point I am trying to make, it's very individual and the Audio part, in my experience, depends greatly on chipset and I/O of a particular machine / motherboard.

Hi folks. This is the first time I am posting something here. A new tune I was working on past couple of weeks. Music is my hobby, not aiming for anything remotely professional. For me it always bit of a challenge, to compose, arrange, record etc., when you do it all by yourself switching from one process to another. I am sure some of you know the feeling. When I am finished with structure, my ears are too tired and I just don't hear it well enough to mix right... I've listened to some very well crafted tunes here, so I was wondering if a side listener can spot some obvious mistake(s) in the mix. I take critique very well. As one music friend said "I got a skin of a snow tire". Thank you in advance. Stand By My Side

Sounds similar to couple of songs from Sting & Shaggy collab a few years back. In any case fun tune. Glad to see EC doing stuff. Thanks for sharing.
