Yey! I did it. just installed Windows, so now time to set it all up. 10900K 16GB 1TB SSD Feeling good. On of the RGB fans isn't lighting up, so I'll have to take it in to the shop to find the error, but I just the RGB because they were cheaper and more available. You can't see them anyway, as the glass wall faces a wall, and the top vent has a raised coved fo my cats to sit on and not clod up the vent with hair, or use as a scraping post. . Thanks for you input Jack, helped get my straight from the outset. I also go a Gold+ 850W PSU, so should I get a graphics card in the future I've got some headroom. No interest in games, but Blender and Video editing could be really helpful making classroom resources. So glad I didn't go for an off the shelf.

Price wise, now I have costed out a build it's cheaper to build, for an equivalent machine, and just a little extra gets you a stack more. When you look at the higher end desktops here, they seems to be targeted at gamers, and there is a big jump, due to graphics cards. I placed my order with Phuong Vu a local branch I like as part of a bigger chain mostly based in HCMC, But they are the epicentre of the Covid 4th wave here, and so many of the parts are at stores that can't accessed. So I replaced the order with HanoiComputer, and Hanoi is is much better state, but supply chains are slow at the moment and the parts advertised weren't all stocked. We are receiving deliveries in Da Nang, but it's restricted and HanoiComputer doesn't trust it. Covid numbers are relatively low here, but the government is diligent. Number are about the sam as Hanoi, but Hanoi is 8 times a bigger city. So Hopefully Hanoi will fully open soon, and delivery restrictions will here in a couple of weeks. Just have to sit tight. Amendments to my specs so far is now as 650W PSU, an Airflow version of the same case 4000D, a second fan (Which will be RGB simply because they are easier and cheaper to get her, same with the CPU fan, I just don't need to turn it on) Looking forward to a 24" screen, going from a 17" laptop. Got my first reading glasses about 2 months ago

I'm thinking of using one of my SSDs for my work laptop, instead. hen put an M.2 drive in. I will still have another SSD 1TB add to the build. Worth going down that road ? EDIT: I've also found a better case, similar but better and no RGB to remove. Corsaire Airflow 4000D. Reviews seem very promising and often mention it's ease to build with.

Thanks for your input, been a bit of a journey. After watching an MSI build video, it suggested going to PC Parts Picker to calc the watts. It came out at 226Watts, so I though more than double the headroom. I guess video card could add a bit, but I doubt I'd seek anything glorious. Yeah, I've no interest in the RGB, but it was cheaper with than without. for the same model. I guess there is far more demand for the model here. The Vietnamese love their tacky flashy lights. We have o deliveries at the moment, so online services can only take orders. Hopefully being lifted at the end of next week. I can then go into the branch.

This is only 3.5 million over my budget, and I'm kind of surprised at what I get for it.

Toying with the idea of building around a i9-10900K Apart from the Socket: LGA1200, what else tells me it's compatible? I have done a number of searches, but everything seems gaming orientated at this level, and I'll probably never install a game beyond solitaire (if that's still shipped with the OS), so where is best to look for articles ? If the board comes with a HDMI/VGA/DisplayPort, does that mean it has on boar graphics processing, and a graphics board is only really needed for games. The optimal work is need, if a graphic card adds performance boost, to Sonar, but isn't needed, then I can upgrade this later if needed. If anyone can suggest a budget level 10900K suitable board, please do. Preferable with 4 DDR4 slots so I can add another pair at a later date, rather than swapping out although I assume a if it's a 2 channel 2 slot DDR4 it's the same performance as a 2 channel 4 slot DDR4 when the total ram is the same. (Am I getting the hang of things?) EDIT:So a local shop in Da Nang that has helped me in the past has the i9 10900k and Mainboard MSI Z490-A PRO for 18 million. I've seen similar prices with small savings if I get from Ha Noi, so that seems the going rate for Vietnam. This happens to match the price of the off the shelf i7. I watched a video on doing a Windows install with no internet connected and was drooling at the options to tell Microsoft to er... mind their own business. A totally clean install is something I've dreamed off, especially after every time I spend a day deleting software on a new laptop. . I'm thinking of asking them to install the CPU as that's the only thing I'm really worried about bodging up.
-
Yeah, I said my intention was to add a pair of 8gB Off the shelf, things are pretty limited here. The i7 10700 seems to be the best CPU the shops have in off the shelf computers, unless I go for a gaming computer and then everything hikes up. I did look at i9 10900k and an Asus Prime Motherboard, which macheted the price of this off this shelf, before adding cooling, Ram, power and a case and the OS. It's both pushing my budget and agility It would be the ideal though, having a clean install and everything. We're on full lockdown at the moment, so I'll have to stew on it.

Basically the same, but stipulates the extra SATA ports. I think your requirements are much greater than mine. My Laptop was fine for the job and this will be a big step up regards processor and multiple SSD drives compared to 5400rpm drive on the laptop, as well as faster USB ports.. I never struggled with 16gb ram.
-
Even though it's level entry, once the rams beefed up I'm sure it'll nock mine for 6. I just checked the CPU benchmark on my laptop compared to the 10700 in the Dell and HP etc. MIne scores 2606 against 16999. So combined with the sam ram and SSD drives it going to feel very different. My Budget is about 20 million, This HP is 17.5 million and a pair of DDR4 8Gbs will be another 2.5 million. Ahh so the 512GB NVMe SSD is on a small board, so can I not add my Samsung SSD to this motherboard.
-
So looking at this I am guessing my RAM won't fit, I could swap out the 512 for my TB SSD (Put this 512 SSD in my small work computer). Put another SSD in a CDdrive Caddy. Or is it likely to have more space for an extra drive? The same question still applied. Can I use the RAM and SSD that I already have in it?

I've been away from Cakewalk for a while. Lot's of computer woes, including Roland Quad restarting, bought a Scarlett and the same thing. But now my laptop a 17" i7 has coe to the end of the road. Stupid really, the hinge has gone. and can't be fixed because the seal that holds the screen in is disintegrating, and there is no replacement. So I'm having to leave open on my desk. I've had a look at replacment 17 inchers, and damn, I can't afford right now. I've had a look a some building a PC on youtube, but that gets really crazy quickly. My Laptop was generally powerful enough for me, but I would like something stronger. Should be easy 8 years later, Enough waffle. My starting questions are about reusing the laptops existing componants to save money. Can the Ram be used in a Desktop Crucial 16 GB Kit (8 GB x 2) DDR3L 1600 MT/s (PC3L-12800) SODIMM 204-Pin Memory Do I just use a SATA cable to connect the SSD. I have 2 SSD Samsung 860 Evo 1TB 2.5-Inch SATA III MZ-76E1T0BW

Thanks, yeah I can do it easily enough in PRV and Events, just seeing if I ,missing something with Staff View actions.

I'm not having an issue with moving selected notes. Select > right click, they al move. But the right click on individual notes moves notes chromatically. If I want to grab all the Es for a two bars and move to Eb, I can't use the right click, because the right click has another function fore groups of selected notes. How can I move groups of selected notes chromatically? I don't want to change the key sig, nd it's not a modulation to another key, just two bars moving out of key. Or can't I?

Roland 2x2 Quad- Capture has crackle (solved)

I'm on the fence if mine's signing it's own death sentence. -
The Motu isn't available in Vietnam, so would take ages to get here and have extra delivery and tax charges. If I went for a new card it would definitely be the focus rite. But I need a bit more evidence this is a driver issue before blaming the Quad's driver. Drivers normally effect latency and drop outs, I've never seen any post about devices repowering on their own. Going to run my small work laptop on the quad later to see how it performs.

You'd hardly recognize Da Nang now, It's become a modern City, with many new bridges spanning the river Han. Old Hoi An would still look the same.

Just uninstalled the driver, and rebooted, so windows would reinstall, then downloaded the drivers and reinstalled the driver manually. results are the same. Only showing 2 outputs, but when I check the windows select option, all 4 show.

As my HP has been sitting in the cupboard for over 18 months, my quad has been connected to my old Samsung, which is on current windows. It has been working faultlessly. So I am hesitant to blame the quad. And while my issue is still happening on the new PSU, it's happening far less. I am wondering if a component on the power board has been stressed by the use of a crappy PSU. I've also don't trust Vietnamese electricity supply, and there is no grounding in use here. Yesterday my work laptop was on, but the screen was off, and if I'm not mistaken it woke back up again at the same time as my Quad restarted on my HP. I do have my HP connected to Volatge stabilizer (was given to me by a friend returning to Canada). Having said that though, I have just ordered a mini hardware mixer for my DAWless set up, and the Focusrite 4i4 would give me 2 extra line inputs I could use to connect the mixer too. Should have ordered it at the same time,, as Thomann would be cheaper than locally, but at least the focusrite is available here. My order from Germany won't come for about 4 weeks though, so I could get the Focusrite quicker,

May of had a break through today. part of the problem is that it's happens in phases. Remembered that it didn't seem to be happening on Battery, but on PSU (A situation confused buy the inclusion of a failing USB adapter). This afternoon, it was being a nightmare. Spet and hour testing with and without the PSU plugged in, until my battery ran out. Went to a laptop repair place I'm starting to have faith in. He tested the PSU said it worked fine, but wasn't 'Zim'., his colleague even wrote it down. as 'Zim'. Seems this is how they thought 'Genuine' was spelt and written in English. Despite their tests showing it worked, they were surprised I bought a new one anyway. So far my Soundcard has worked faultlessly since using the new PSU. I'm apprehensively happy, I hope this post doesn't jinx it. EDIT: I'm in Central Viet Nam btw, just realized this new forum doesn't have my location
