Some mixed reviews over at VI.  I thought some of the Kirk Hunter stuff was OK.

Some of the points relate more to installation and use, rather than sound at least though.

I haven't read through it all yet

There is always some anti Kirk bias.

If you are into collecting orchestras it's probably worth the price.  I bought it when it was only available for Gigastudio.  Full orchestra libraries have matured since then.  The strongest part I guess is the solo strings.

With the race down to zero in libraries that price is a hard sell.

    I never had installation issues.

    Yes.

Always better to go with the iLok.  A lesson learned after replace a drive and contacting many developers to have authorizations reset.

Thanks for pointing that out. I broke down and bought an iLok dongle last year. All I have on it are UAD plugins. I can ditch the dongle and free up a slot on a switched usb hub,

But does it still require iLok software?

Undoubtedly, they are good plugins. It's just that I have all that they cover, already covered many times over! 🙄

Same here.  I'm starting to remove stuff based on strange eco systems.

I could see UAD Connect if you have their interfaces.

But there is no shortage of reinventing the wheel and those wise enough to rely in a DAWs included plugins.

  5. Most large external drives are 5400 rpm.

Not sure what is backed up to take that much time.  I would imagine it would if it were all of my drives with sample libraries.  I never back those up on a schedule. The only time they are backed up is after buying them so I don't have to download them again.   I've got a large collection of HDDs since upgrading to SSDs.

I'm not a fan of these apps that after downloading the installation files are deleted.  Some don't give you that option.  I get it if you have a laptop .  EW,NI, Steindberg are the offenders.   IK - I can download their zip files.  I can hold on to my VSL files.  I can keep al of my Live Suite files.   I'm getting turned off more by software the way  software is distributed these days.

Yes and the mklink on my system is:

    mklink /j "C:\Users\Public\Documents\Scaler Music\Scaler 3" "E:\SampleLibrary\Scaler 3"

Of course YOUR sample drive might NOT be E and your sample library might not be SampleLibrary

Had the Scaler installer at least informed what the path to "Sounds" would be, the mklink could have
    been created PRIOR to install...

here's a hint; create the folder Scaler 3, or if you prefer "Scaler Music" (just amend the example above to
reflect the the parent folder is Scaler Music) on the drive you keep your samples on, then create the link,
Scaler will then install the "Sounds" where you want them (which in my case is NOT EVER on the C drive).

    mklink /j "C:\Users\Public\Documents\Scaler Music" "E:\SampleLibrary\Scaler Music"

    HTH,

    t

I'm too stupid to mess with this anymore.

My solution these days since I also game is have a 1TB OS drive.   It's a lot easier.  I even had some overhear despite even games are now bloated.

You get three per license (was two), and you can split, or auth/de-auth them however you like between dongle and local/machine.

    Some are still 2.

And by the way all full Kontakt instruments can also be installed offline, although Kontakt itself has to be installed online.

I make it a habit to buy those.

  9. I've grown to like iLok.

There are downsides to machine activation as well.  It triggers hardware changes.  Some have gotten it right.

There is really no such thing as offline anymore.  You still have t go online for some reason.  The days are gone when you bought software on a CD, entered the serial number and done.

For $99 that looks like a pretty nice upgrade deal.

Looks like Augmented Yangtze is the only new instrument not currently included in Collection V X.
Usually there's a number of new instruments that have dropped before they announce a version update, so wondering if Collection V XI is really going to drop this year.

Odd. I got it for free because I had X or did I pay for it?

That's actually a nice one to have.
