using ample sound p lite 2 with an electric guitar
Glenn Stanton replied to gokseldbuga's topic in Instruments & Effects
the ample bass plugin needs MIDI. you can drag your guitar audio to a MIDI track and it should convert. one thing i do - i apply a HP filter to remove some of the potential noise, and also a LP to remove squeaks etc. then convert (although i have Melodyne studio, if you have the basic Melodyne you should be able to convert it). once you have the MIDI you can do any cleanup on the MIDI (including any quantizing etc). then assign that as the MIDI input to the plugin. this works with SI-BASS, etc. as a note, you might need to transpose it down an octave. -
if i flip mono-stereo setting on either the main or aux, there is no change in terms of polarity null testing. the patch point is stereo at all times and doesn't have any processing on it. so if i set the main to mono (+3db from a stereo source file) it just transfers through the PP. selecting a L-R-S from the PP is effectively the same because the source is mono. setting aux to mono, main to stereo, same dealio - the PP is stereo, doesn't care, and there is no summing, so no changes. = -> = -> - = -> = -> = m pp a - -> = -> = - -> = -> - only time i get not-null is panning which does shift the relationship (hence the reason i originally mentioned panning)

yes. and the send inputs seems to be working as expected (for me) on patch points and aux tracks ?
-
AUX-PP-NULL.cwb this is my test file.
-
it's silent when i set it up to both main and aux to a master bus with aux set to 180° polarity. mono or stereo. panning all centered. i'm not seeing seeing this except if i pan the main or the aux track, then it varies in the bus. if i set the send to follow the track pan, and reset the pan, then its silent. changing the pan law with the panning impacts the amount passed when not centered. so from my perspective, this seems to be working as expected. as a note i'm using a -20db pink noise calibration file as the source.

How to hold notes longer in SI-Bass Section
Glenn Stanton replied to Don Cobb's topic in Instruments & Effects
as noted in your other thread on this topic you should spend some time to learn how to edit midi - note durations, grid, etc. if you enter a note which is 1/8, and need it to be 1, then stretch it. pretty basic. this is an area where a few minutes of reading the manual and some practice it will become second nature. -
you could just create 2 tracks - one with the keys, and one with the click. make the tracks mono - then you can pan one left and one right. export as stereo.

wondering also if some Windows Security settings are blocking some older VC, file access, etc. i've found on one of my machines (newly updated overall) that the Windows Security enabled all kinds of "safety features" which i had to turn off (things like "prevent google chrome from running", "prevent apple itunes from connecting to apple store", "don't allow download of non-MS approved files", "only install half of the application without warning user", "turn on intrusive file indexing as high priority service to prevent disk usage", etc) ? (not really those, but several policies which had the same effect).

individually, but if you group and double-click only the one track goes the zero and the rest are proportional. ideally they should all zero...
-
it would be nice to have a number of knobs act the same, it is very disappointing to double-click expecting the dial / knob / slider to reset to its default position (0 etc) and then it doesn't... even the PC EQ works like this... so resetting gain by double-clicking would be a nice enhancement which might not require significant work to make it happen.

i'm liking the logitech mouse with the side button (about 20 years now). although if i am using a MS mouse with the normal buttons, not a problem. however, going back to a single button Apple mouse just make me feel spastic...

As noted earlier, some band have 2 drummers. I've done some things with 3 drum vsti setup up to play different parts as if I have 2 drummers and a percussionist. So as several have repeated if it sounds good it is good. And if you program something that is complex enough, and you or someone else wants to perform it live, then either bring the tracks or hire enough people to play it... One more thought, simpler is generally going to sound more realistic in most situations. One thing I tend to do is set up the midi for the song and then strip out as much as I can while still retaining the essential aspects. This leaves room for other instruments which don't mask the drums or are masked by them. Hi hats and cymbals are usually the first things I scale back.

PC fx module let's you load quite a few additional plugins. Plus I think you have 10db which have PC versions. I use my pultec and neve style eq quite often. In fact I mainly only ever use the PC strip for all my effects.
-
are any of the plugins potentially causing this? maybe turn off the fx and export only the track as clean and see if it behaves the same. another is if the HH track is mono, set the track to mono and pan it hard.

one of the key things to check - are all devices which you listen to "calibrated" to produce the same levels? using (say a -12db pink noise file) you can set all your listening devices/sources to the same level (esp if you have a sound level meter). so if CW is set up so speakers are outputting 75db, then your listening apps needs to be set with the same source file to 75db.

BBC Symphony Orchestra crashing Cakewalk
Glenn Stanton replied to hhal9000's topic in Instruments & Effects
same here. BBC DSCO working fine. specs in sig -
i am a bass player by trade ?
-
i use the task list to create a number of export options and i just check the one (or more) in the list i want and run it. i have this type of presets in my templates so they're already there. so, one key technique is to leverage the task approach - although i agree, having it remember the last settings would be nice.

Coming to Netflix: the most disastrous concert ever
Glenn Stanton replied to bitflipper's topic in The Coffee House
runner up: Bataclan, a music venue in Paris where Eagles of Death Metal were playing, with more than 100 people dying and many attendees taken hostage as a result of the terrorist attack or probably the Ariana Grande concert bombing - Manchester Arena Suicide Bombing: 22 Die at Ariana Grande -
i still have mine. if you take a bit of time to add good line and keep it oiled it works nicely. i've caught some big fish with it (you still need the right bait and a net). kept it in my car for years in case i was somewhere i had an hour to kill near some fishing hole. also ok for backpacking but mostly i use my 4' shakespeare rod with a shimano reel. weights about 10oz and is easy to unpack and set up. plugins - except for "bark of the dog", if a plugin has a silly name, i generally look at the specs and if it's something i already have one (or more of) (and regardless of the endorsements) i typically skip it... ?

Coming to Netflix: the most disastrous concert ever
Glenn Stanton replied to bitflipper's topic in The Coffee House
this was on HBO last year. a couple of hours i'll never get back. complete waste. traffic jams, people broke down the fence, got dirty, ran out of food, some people got sick. first world problems... -
looking at a 2016 KB entry - it should be usable in 64-bit environment as 64-bit was becoming prevalent by then - although you need the SONAR 2.0 and later to install it... not sure what version of SONAR it stopped at. Getting Started With Cyclone DXi (https://www.cakewalk.com/Support/Knowledge-Base/2007013082/Getting-Started-With-Cyclone-DXi) Last updated on 3/30/2016 Introducing Cyclone... With the new Cyclone DXi from Cakewalk, you gain complete control over your loops and .wav files. With Groove Clip technology SONAR allows you to break up your loops into individual transients for real-time pitch shifting and tempo matching. Now we've upped the ante once again by allowing you to move, delete, tune, pan, and replace every single slice individually. Cyclone DXi is available in SONAR 2 and later

i'm on version 5 editor and the splitting seems to work on even tiny slivers and gaps. i zoom way in and place and split.

Is it possible to download GarageBand sounds to Cakewalk?
Glenn Stanton replied to Lawson Currie's question in Q&A
one option would be to create the parts using the GB instruments and export the audio - then import into CW - setting your project tempos etc. if using MIDI in GB - export the MIDI as type 0 (all sources in 1 file) and import into CW as that should provide the tempo info as well as the MIDI content. from there, the sky's the limit on instruments for the MIDI source. -
insert a second SD3 synth. then map that with the percussion etc and assigned to separate midi and audio tracks as needed. i do this when i want both drums and percussion playing at the same time with Additive Drums (AD2) one for the drum track, and one for the percussion. one midi for each and multiple audio to separate out things like kick, snare, hh, oh, and usually one or two for percussion. if i don't need them playing together, then i'll just use the one AD2 instance for both - do the drums and record them, then switch over to percussion (separate midi and audio tracks) and record those. as a note, i used to use SD for most of my drums and percussion but mainly use AD2 now.
