Also check if you're using Double Precision/64 bit audio and disable it if you are. You never know but Spire may be incompatible with it.

Vertically or horizontally?

This sounds like you are using a workspace: you've edited one of the factory ones and use that, then the installer comes along and replaces the factory ones, resetting your changes. Use a user workspace and they won't get overwritten.
