    If you check in the iLok Manager - looks like most of their plugins (unless there's been a recent update that changes this) will only authorize to  iLok USB (2,3), or iLok Cloud.

    Note that, as shown, authorizing with iLok1 or directly on your computer is disabled.

    For playing guitar though, I just have a guitar stack project and so it loads with a bunch of amps, effects, clean channels, high gain channels and I can just hit monitor on any track to switch between all different tones and types of sounds.  Probably takes an extra 15 to 30 seconds to load the project, as it's got to load Tonex, Neural, Amplitube, etc. but then it's all good to go and a massive timesaver when playing.

    Great minds think alike, that sounds similar to what I use for my initial evaluation.

    I also have a guitar test project that I use to evaluate & compare guitar amp sims (Tonex, Helix, Amplitube, and anything else I've acquired that I thought was passable).
    It gives me a good idea of whether or not a plugin is something I might be interested in actually using.
    I really should update the project with tracks from different guitars, different pickups and different playing styles - currently it only has one track a rock rhythm/lead thing probably from my Les Paul using the bridge humbucker; but the project does what it is intended to do. Maybe someday when I have more time.

    Speaking of guitar sims - I miss the old Cakewalk DX amp sim. It had limited options but  it got some excellent rock tones that mixed well with recorded guitars/& other amp sims or could stand up on their own.  In listening to some of my old projects it's surprising how good it sounded and this was before I got 99% of the stuff I have now.

I rarely do, as it's always easy to fire up a DAW instead and just run it inside if that, or a host like Gig Performer and then it saves installing all other applications through my computer. But I still would've expected it to be solid from them.

    I just put a short cut on my desktop and I can drag & drop a plugin on to it and up it pops.
    Much quicker than loading a DAW especially since you'll have to run a plugin scan for the DAW to even see it (if it's a new plugin).
    There are a couple of plugins that won't run in SaviHost but over 90% of the time it just works.

    Cakewalk has previously worked with Microsoft on cutting edge audio issues.  Wonder how much Bandland/Cakewalk is in the loop with this set of developments?

    We’re excited to release the first in-box public preview of Windows MIDI Services, our complete rewrite of MIDI on Windows with a focus on a great experience for musicians and a strong foundation for future expansion and enhancement.

    MIDI is the standard, first released in 1983, that is used to synchronize synthesizers and drum machines in almost all modern electronic music. It’s used to record and play back note information, control stage lights and effects, keep mixers in a large venue in sync, and so much more. Although it is not itself audio, the MIDI protocol is essential to making music and was heavily used in the rise of hip-hop and other genres. MIDI 2.0 is the first major update to the core MIDI protocol since 1983, offering everything that modern musicians need today, like increased speed and fidelity, better control of instruments, modern bi-directional conversations and negotiation between instruments, discovery, better USB timing, and more.

    Windows MIDI Services is our new MIDI stack which handles not only MIDI 2.0 but also brings our MIDI 1.0 implementation up to modern expectations. It works on 64-bit operating systems on all supported processors, including Arm64. Windows MIDI Services offers the following benefits:

    • Full support of the MIDI 2.0 Standard, including high-speed data transmission, higher-fidelity messages, increased resolution for controller values, and full in-service MIDI 2.0 endpoint discovery and protocol negotiation.

    New USB MIDI 2.0 Class Driver: The new USB MIDI 2.0 Class Driver, graciously provided to Microsoft by AMEI (Association of Musical Electronics Industry of Japan) and written by AmeNote, is a high-speed USB MIDI driver which works with both the new USB MIDI 2.0 devices, as well as with class-compliant USB MIDI 1.0 devices. By default, for compatibility, this is enabled only for USB MIDI 2.0 devices and a handful of USB MIDI 1.0 devices. However, you may manually assign this driver to any class-compliant USB MIDI 1.0 device yourself to gain the better transfer mechanisms. We also have several built-in transports for things that were not previously available without third-party drivers. Learn more about the built-in transports here.

    Windows MIDI Services App SDK and Tools: Applications using Windows MIDI Services do so through the Windows MIDI Services App SDK, shipped out-of-band. Current preview releases are available on our GitHub repo releases page. Please note that these are unsigned releases and so will give you a warning when you download and install. In addition to installing the required runtime components, the SDK runtime installer includes these tools:

    • Windows MIDI Services Console (midi.exe): The all-around console tool for sending messages, checking the state of MIDI, monitoring incoming messages, sending System Exclusive, and much more.
    • MIDI Diagnostics (mididiag.exe): A tech support tool which provides information about the state of MIDI on the PC.
    • MIDI Kernel Streaming Endpoint Info (midiksinfo.exe): A hardware developer-focused tool which provides information about the KS (Kernel Streaming) endpoints.
    • MIDI multicast dynamic DNS Info (midimdnsinfo.exe): A tool to support the upcoming Network MIDI 2.0 transport.

    The Windows MIDI Services App SDK also includes the MIDI Settings app – a desktop application for managing endpoints, renaming endpoints and ports, creating loopback devices, managing your network MIDI 2.0 connections, and more.

    In addition, we’re currently working on our Network MIDI 2.0 transport, recently demonstrated at the NAMM Show in California, the virtual patch-bay to enable routing between endpoints, and a rewrite of our BLE MIDI 1.0 transport. This will all ship in a future version of Windows MIDI Services.

    In May 2023 I purchased Komplete 14 Collectors Edition Update Download for $ 225.41
    and it included the Plugin Alliance Komplete 14 Collectors Editions PA Bundle which they claim had an MSRP of $ 2,043

    Today - for my Komplete 15 Collectors Edition Update (no PA Bundle this time) NI is asking $499.
    So for $273.59 more  I get $2,043 less product... 
    Wow, the only thing that could make this more attractive to me would be if this was a subscription.

    I think I'll wait till summer (when I usually buy Komplete anyway) and see if the offerings are a little more wallet friendly.

    Valhalla DSP has announced the release of version 3.0 of ValhallaDelay, featuring two new delay modes, Chrome Tape and Analog. Version 3.0 is a free update for ValhallaDelay Owners.

    Analog: More Real Than Real

    Analog is a bucket brigade echo model, but with some modern twists. It uses a companding BBD model like the original ValhallaDelay BBD mode, but with 2X the frequency bandwidth, 1/2 the noise, and a new saturation model that sounds closer to thicker BBD units.

    • Analog is far brighter than a real BBD device, but less bright than a digital delay. This ends up being a perfect frequency balance for delays, choruses, and reverbs. Dark enough to have character and cut away the obnoxious high frequencies, but bright enough to avoid the murk. We've been using Analog nonstop in house for our own musical work. It might be our favorite mode in ValhallaDelay.

    Chrome Tape: More Reel Than Reel

    Chrome Tape is very close to the original Tape mode in ValhallaDelay, but with the feedback noise greatly reduced and the tape splice artifacts eliminated (the tape splice artifacts will be removed in version 3.0.1). This makes Chrome Tape a less accurate model of old school tape delays than the original Tape mode, but also is a response to users that like the sound of Tape but want less artifacts.

    • Seems like it would be boring, but turns out Chrome Tape is incredibly useful in the mix.
