Questioning Juan: Isn't that kind of what almost every guitar amp sim does? Answering Juanita: ¡Claro! (Oh course!) I haven't yet tried it, probably it uses different algorithms (than an amp sim) and it does a lot more mangling (per demo video).

It's not that I'm that much of a fan of bacon (sacrilegious viewpoint to some) but just wondered what the patches would sound like. Would they be phat an/or crisp or ? Now I'll never know...

Seriously though - that's a good point. A VST is just a DLL run by a hosting app, usually a DAW, - so someone could pack it with malicious code, malware, spyware, etc.. If the DAW is run with Admin privileges that DLL is basically running in GOD Mode and it can interact directly with the OS to do what it wants providing it's not blocked by antivirus or antimalware systems. A rompler on the other hand, like a Kontakt, uses libraries composed of samples & macros that work within the rompler but not the directly with the OS - so if the rompler is secure/stable the libraries should be safe.

Go into Windows Control Panel / System Settings / 3rd Party Integration Services and set Rampant Paranoia level down to 5 or even 3. You probably have it set to 7 which known to cause tingling with VST plugins.
