Yeah, that's what I meant by saying that it has it uses. As with all the AAS synths I'm happy to have it (bought as part of a bundle rather than for itself) and like you I do use it for composition purposes, but I wouldn't upgrade to a newer version unless it offered something more than a redesign and a few new presets. I also find the strumming patterns to be a bit limited and it annoys me that if you change the sound then the strumming pattern also changes with it, but in fairness I have never RTFM so maybe there's a way to stop that and I've just been too lazy to find out.

Personally I don't really see myself having much use for it, but at least this guy knows how to make a video watchable. I started watching another one a few days ago and that guy was so long winded that I never even made it as far as him actually showing what it did.

Yeah, I've read other things before where they pretty much said that it would never happen, but it's such a shame as a better UI would make it so much more usable.

Imagine a world where they made the guitar version of Trilian though............

That's why I said least good instead of bad. It isn't bad, but to my ears it needs to be more buried in the mix than the sample based versions do, which is perfectly understandable given that it's a modelling synth, but it has it's uses for sure. That said, to say that some of the add-ons they have released for it are a bit whelming would be a generous omission of under IMO. What I meant about a v3 needing to be good is that a simple cosmetic re-skin to bring it onto line with the other v3's wouldn't be enough to make me upgrade.

Really? In my experience they have been quite open to a bundle type of deal that may not be an advertised one. Perhaps they just don't like frogs?? Personally I'm still hoping against all hope that they will somehow find a way to give Tassman a better look, but I guess Strum GS-3 is way more likely. That will need to be good though because of all their synths Strum is probably the least good.

Totally worth it IMO although that price does look worse in $$ than ££. I use a little bit of it in just about everything I do, so I guess if I were to add up the cost against the many cheaper synths I have that I hardly ever use, then it starts to look like pretty decent value. Plus there's usually a significant "free" upgrade thrown in somewhere down the line and as I've said before at least you're not likely to buy it one month and see the price drop 50% a month later. It's a shame that there isn't a demo, but I think that because it's such a beast of a thing that it would be nigh on impossible to make a demo version that would do it justice. If you're looking for the mother of all things that mimics "real" instruments then its not for you. If you're looking for the daddy of all sound design then I doubt you would be disappointed. I would say that if you watch Eric's demo videos over the years and they make you really, really, really want it you'll be happy with what you get.

Because I'd bought quite a few things from them, I managed to get 20% off the boxed versions of Omni 1 and Trilian when bought together from a retail store that is no longer in business who claimed that was virtually the price that they paid for them from their wholesaler (Time & Space). No idea if that was true or not, but they were quite reluctant to give me that price and I don't think that I would have got it had it not been for my previous purchases and the obvious hope that there may be more to come in future, which there would have been had they remained open. Totally worth it though and personally I prefer knowing that it's not going to be half the price 2 months after you bought it. They usually throw in some pretty significant upgrade versions too, so all in all its not a bad deal when you consider what you are getting. The only thing that is disappointing to me is that they don't consider already owning two of their products to be worth anything if buying a third, which is the main reason I only have two and their policy of not allowing upgrade pricing on physical media, although I did eventually upgrade Omni to latest version after a kind soul here made the big download on on crappy d/l speed problem go away.

Same here. Always sending me emails with offers to buy them though. I don't think anyone could ever accuse them of being overly organised in the marketing dept.? I mostly forget that I even have them tbh, so I won't be losing any sleep about missing out on a few presets.

As Mesh might say......"there's one too many zeros in that price."

Anything other than a major UI rethink that includes the ability to move the control bar to the top of the screen will guarantee a total lack of interest from me. The weird thing is that in the official promo images it does look quite good, but once it's actually there right in front of me it's just hard to look at and I never use it because of that. On the plus side the plug in browser is way sexier than CW - I wouldn't mind at all if CW copied that.

If it helps you decide, the mounting frame on the Nitro/Turbo sets is crap - very small and flimsy, so assuming that you're a regular sized adult male I think you'd have trouble playing them comfortably. Seems like it's aimed more at kids to me. The frame on the Surge/Command sets is way better in every way. Bit more money obviously, but IMO there's no contest. -
How about a nice group sing-song instead? 2...3...4...

If I use headphones I can still use it inside, but if if I want to check the mix on my monitors I have no choice other than to take it all outside because they are near field monitors and I don't have a field indoors.

IIRC the demo version works for 30 days.

I should imagine that the amount of dust they must have had to blow off of this actually is a toxic biohazard.
