I believe that capability is up to the VST instrument itself. I'm not aware of any DAW features for that. Take a look at these lists: https://en.xen.wiki/w/List_of_Microtonal_Software_Plugins https://www.subaqueousmusic.com/list-of-microtonal-vst-synths-and-plugins/

I think Cakewalk Sound Center was replaced by Rapture Session. Rapture Session imports your Dimension Pro and Rapture classic presets. So if you can find sound packs for those older synths, they can be used in Rapture Session. This may also apply to Rapture Pro, but I don't have it, so cannot confirm.

Migrating to Win 10 - plugin best practice

Yes it is the same. Was just pointing it out to help answer the question of how far to go back. Depends on what you want. -

Sonar Plugins for Sonar 3 through Platinum (spreadsheet published at Google docs) https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1qNsnKBASsnsALygDDQSQ4jFW6yhZIJZcIpfwH-6qgy0/pubhtml?gid=0&single=true -
Were you referring to Windows 10X? I couldn't locate anything about "Windows X". https://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/windows-10x-vs-windows-10/

Anybody got this and care to compare to OB-Xd by DiscoDSP?

What price were you going to pay? Hard to recommend without a range to work with. Is a full featured arpeggiator/sequencer the most important feature? Do you want something with lots of cool factory presets, or are you planning to design your sounds from scratch?

Maybe Microsoft could replace the core of Windows with the Linux kernel, and just use the Windows GUI as the desktop environment? Windows 11 anybody? And they could bolt on the Windows API (Win32) , since they own the code. Then you could then run either native Linux or Windows apps. ?
-
This ^^^ I have used Linux for years. But as said previously, Linux is best as a server operating system. Yes, it does do a desktop, but life is too short. Windows does it better. ?

I'd say +1 for the GK Amplification. I use the LE version. I'd say it sounds great. For example when using it with the Ample Sound free P-Bass, it makes a huge difference. The free GK bundle is here. https://shop.audified.com/products/live-guitar-and-bass-bundle-le

How to get Addictive Drums up and running
abacab replied to Frank DeFede's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Not just the ones you payed for. The Addictive Drums licenses were also bundled for free with certain editions of Cakewalk Sonar, and are still valid. But the same advice applies to recover those products with XLN installer, for example if you get a new computer and expected Cakewalk Command Center to install them for you, along with Sonar. Surprise, not there! -
Midi player shuts down while playing
abacab replied to bertus weyers's topic in Instruments & Effects
Fair warning! In my experience, it has been the Win10 Feature Updates most likely to cause this mayhem, as they run a Windows upgrade on your installation. In fact your system ID changes with each Feature Update, which can mess with some software activations. I don't recall the monthly quality and security patches messing with my settings. -
MIDI keyboard suddenly no longer works in CW

And maybe try a different USB port while swapping cables. Often you will find more than one USB controller hub onboard your PC, so you may be able to locate a spare USB port connected to a different USB controller hub. -
That's pretty much how things are nowadays...

I thought you were kidding about it being an IK thing... until I scrolled to the bottom... But it could be a good contact tracer if EVERYBODY wore one...

MIDI keyboard suddenly no longer works in CW

Maybe try renaming the file "TTSSEQ.INI" so that Cakewalk will rebuild the .ini file from defaults. Location: "C:\Users\[user]\AppData\Roaming\Cakewalk\Cakewalk Core" -
crackling sound when using some effects and plugins
abacab replied to Samuel Sheehan's topic in Instruments & Effects
Try running "LatencyMon" from Resplendence. https://www.resplendence.com/latencymon "LatencyMon checks if a system running Windows is suitable for processing real-time audio and other tasks. LatencyMon analyzes the possible causes of buffer underruns by measuring kernel timer latencies and reporting DPC and ISR excecution times as well as hard pagefaults. It will provide a comprehensible report and find the kernel modules and processes responsible for causing audio latencies which result in drop outs. " -

You stated that nothing is recorded when playing. But can you hear the instrument respond when you just play the keyboard? -
Intel uses hyper-threading in addition to multi-threading on certain processors. The way I see it is like this: Say you have four cores. If your software can run on all 4 cores simultaneously, that is done by using 4 threads. In other words, this is multi-threading. It is on by default in multi core Intel CPUs, but your application software has to be written to support it. Hyper-threading is when Intel enables 2 threads per core, resulting in extra "virtual" cores. So a 4 core Intel processor can run 8 threads when hyper-threading is enabled. So a quad core processor, with hyper-threading enabled, will appear to have 8 "virtual" cores. I cannot speak for AMD in this regard, as I have never used their processors.

How to import MIDI separating by channel
abacab replied to Cannelloni BEATS's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
I have also found that using Reaper as a sort of middle man in the case of opening unconventional MIDI GM files sometimes works better than Cakewalk. It intelligently detects the channels and asks if you want separate tracks. After opening the GM file in Reaper, just re-save the MIDI there, and then open the Reaper version in Cakewalk! Should have separate tracks per channel now! Reaper is available as a free 60-day trial in case you want to test this theory... not suggesting a switch, just another MIDI tool. -

can I transform a sample into a midi track?
abacab replied to Didazne's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
I think you may be asking if there is a way in Cakewalk to chop up a sample and play the slices back via MIDI. Cakewalk does not have an internal sampler to do that with. In Ableton you would use the integrated simpler or sampler to do that with. In Cakewalk you would need a 3rd party sampler plugin. -
I am surprised by that, considering that Vegas Pro is the offspring of Vegas 1.0, originally developed by Sonic Foundry as audio editing software. I have a copy, and there are many similarities to Acid. But Vegas was way more of a dedicated linear DAW. Video was added in version 2, and sold to Sony around version 4 (2003?). I have a copy of Vegas Pro 14, but haven't messed with the audio. Leave the audio track as is. Just use it to edit together video clips from my digital camera.

At least it seems that it may not be the MPK mini, since the virtual controller didn't work either. What virtual instrument are you using? Can you try using a different one? Perhaps one that you can play with a mouse, such as Cakewalk SI- Electric Piano? That would rule out MIDI, because you would be triggering the instrument directly through the UI. If you still hear no sound, it may be that the audio output in the DAW has issues.
