Well for that price you get: VIP 3.1, AIR FX Collection Plus, Velvet 2, Transfuser 2, Hybrid 3, Vacuum Pro, XPand!2, & Loom 1. For $5 each.

It's normally sold as a part of the discounted AIR collection, but I've not often seen it for under $99 standalone. I would only recommend buying Structure as a player for the included instrument library, not as a sampler to import your own samples. The 1st reason for that opinion is that it needs a known bug fix for entering new text labels. Several others, including me, have noticed the UI will not take text entry any more . Maybe that's just a Windows 10 thing, and you might get lucky with Win 7. The only reason I still keep it around is for the sample collection, which isn't bad! The 2nd reason is that is hasn't been updated since October 2015. No longer under current development, as far as I know. Probably too out of date for Win 10 use, other than as a player. But for $20 this makes for a decent ROMpler! ?

IR-1 is cool, but you could probably do a lot with just the free "L" version. I got some usable results just loading an IR at default values on the reverb settings on IR-1, and just controlling wet/dry. IR-L does lack a few sliders and controls that you might want if you intend to do some detailed tweaks.

I recently picked up the full IR-1 at Waves last big sale. It's a very nice reverb. The IR-L was included. "The IR-L offers the same great sound and performance as our IR1, using a simple, streamlined interface for maximum ease and efficiency." Definitely go grab the Waves IR Library! One of the IR's is for the 7th row of the Apollo Theater. Nice ambiance for an acoustic performance! ?

Even though I have VIP 3 and love it, I would hesitate to recommend it now until I see further proof of life from Akai. It has been a long time since they released an update, or support for VST3. It's still VST2 only. It is still good at what it was designed to do, but I'm afraid Akai's parent company, inMusic, appears to be cutting back active development to all of their software lines such as AIR Music and Sonivox, without comment. I think DJ hardware is the main focus for Akai now.

You got the IR part correct, as in "impulse response". Used by one of the two loosely defined main types of digital reverbs that use mathematics to process a signal, these are known as "convolution" reverbs. These are probably more common, and what you usually think of as a reverb. It is capable of emulating plates, echo chambers, springs, room sizes, delays, or pretty much anything else in the time domain.
