  1. The Vegas that I just mentioned was Vegas Pro 14, and I was able to get acceptable results from some HD video clips I shot on a compact Canon camera. Edited, then exported as MP4 and uploaded to share with friends. But it was time consuming. I have since added Vegas Movie Studio 16 Platinum (a Humble deal I believe), but haven't really used it. It resembles Vegas Pro in many ways. But just a bit cut down. Since I use Adobe Photoshop Elements and like that, I was considering Adobe Premiere Elements as a video companion. But it looks like the reviews favor Corel Video Studio Ultimate. It's probably worth $25 to find out. ?
  2. I slogged through Vegas earlier this year. As I'm not a full time video editor, I would prefer something a bit more intuitive. Have always been a still pic editor. ?
  3. This looks interesting. Read some reviews at PC Mag and it got 4 stars. https://www.pcmag.com/reviews/corel-videostudio-ultimate
  4. I got PaintShop Pro 2020 Ultimate because it was cheap. It might have a few useful features and effects that could be useful. We'll see, but I'm leaning towards Larry's opinion. My default go-to photo editor for quick edits has been Photoshop Elements since version 2. So I would say that having a tool you are familiar with saves you time. Just like an old DAW that you know well. ? I have skipped many Elements update versions. I was stuck on version 10 since 2013 because it just worked so well. But I recently grabbed the 2020 version to catch up. No subscription required, but they do sell a new version every year. This last update cost me $65.
  5. Along with the reordering of Scheps effects, you have one "optional" slot to insert another Waves plugin of your choosing into Omni channel. Then if you drop Omni Channel into Waves StudioRack you can create an effects chain with multiple Waves effects before or after Omni Channel, if desired. And if you are using Cakewalk, you could insert that StudioRack into a Pro Channel FX chain. Not that you would really need to, but you can if you want to.
  6. I got the H-Series a while back. It's a pretty good set of processors for delay, compression, EQ, & reverb. The delay and reverb come with a wet/dry default of 100%, so if using them as inserts you will probably want to dial it back some.
  7. Not exactly a Black Friday deal, but I used a Waves voucher from my recent WUP to get 50% off the upgrade to Abbey Road Collection. So it cost me $20 to pick up the last 2 plugins for the collection at $10 each, and one was Reel ADT (automatic double tracking), a very nice one!
  8. I bought another Waves plugin today. Well actually it was two... I completed my Abbey Road Collection with an upgrade to the full collection for $20. I was only lacking two. Are there any comparable plug-ins to these anywhere?
  9. I would recommend this $8.99 adapter cable for connecting a 2.5 inch SSD or HDD to a USB 3.0 port. No power required: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B011M8YACM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00
  10. Is your Win 7 setup as 32-bit or 64-bit? Cakewalk by BandLab is 64-bit only. That means it won't install on a 32-bit system. System requirements listed here: https://www.bandlab.com/products/cakewalk
  11. I agree that Waves should really improve their licensing process to make it more end-user friendly. It is a pain, but I do like some of their plug-ins.
  12. Am curious about Captain Chords. Please do let us know what you discover!
  13. Make sure that you record each instrument on a separate track. And only "Arm" your current track for recording. See example in video below. It is queued up to start at 11:44 mm:ss. There are some excellent tutorial videos posted online. Suggest watching them. ?
  14. I'm of the opinion that Ableton Live is a good companion to a traditional DAW. A good alternate DAW, so to speak, that offers some rather unique creative workflows that are difficult to achieve otherwise. If Cakewalk is your main DAW, then you would probably not want the overlap of another traditional DAW like Reaper, Studio One, Cubase, etc. But Ableton Live has less overlap. And Ableton has a friendly upgrade policy, so you do not have to upgrade every version. I was able to upgrade a license for Live v5 from years ago to Live v9, for a low upgrade price same as any existing user. But as far as Live v10 goes, Ableton finally added VST3 support in v10.1, so that's important!
  15. I would suggest that you get Iris 2 for free (currently) and add Loom II for $4.99. That will give you spectral sample filtering and additive synthesis (sounds created from sine wave partials) to add to your synth types. These two can create some truly unique sounds, compared to traditional VA or wavetable synthesis. Just add your favorite subtractive VA synth, Wavetable synth, FM synth, and Physical Modeling synth and you have most synthesis types covered. My favorites by category in my current collection are: Virtual Analog: Arturia Analog Lab Wavetable: Arturia Pigments 2 FM: Waves Flow Motion Physical Modeling: AAS Chromaphone 3 Spectral filtering: iZotope Iris 2 (even though this one uses sample based oscillators, I consider the filtering a special class of synthesis) Additive synthesis: AIR Loom II
  16. If you like Loom, you get 500 new presets for $5. Yup!
  17. AIR Loom II for $4.99 https://www.jrrshop.com/air-music-tech-loom
  18. I upgraded from Live 5 to Live 9 Standard, and they threw in an upgrade to Live 10 Standard for free. So far I haven't seen anything that made me wish I had Suite, except maybe for some tutorials that used Suite-exclusive features. Hate when they do that!
  19. That's the lowest I've seen it on sale... Good value for an old collection! Great starter plug-in pack for new users.
  20. But what? Wobble and Twist are $4.99... ?
  21. I dunno, it worked for me. If you haven't used the license recovery within the last 12 months, that should also work. I've had to use that before. But I would wait for support to respond first, as they might be able to avoid recovery. And you can always move your licenses to a USB connected drive. It doesn't have to be a flash drive. I've even moved them to a connected spinner USB.
  22. Well if you still have the NIC, just re-enable it and access to the licenses is restored.
