  1. Here's one example... https://exhibits.stanford.edu/supra/feature/piano-roll-scanner
  2. I'm not positive, but it sure looks like Roland copied this soft synth... ? https://cherryaudio.com/products/mercury-4
  3. I think that the best way to learn the full intent behind this new plugin format is to follow the developer's discussion on KVR. Urs Heckmann of u-he is a very clever fellow, so he has probably already thought of all the issues raised here. I am not as smart as Urs, so I doubt that I can beat him at that game!
  4. I grabbed the Behringer ECM8000 Measurement Condenser Microphone for $29, to go with the ARC software I got in the last group buy... https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/ECM8000--behringer-ecm8000-measurement-condenser-microphone
  5. Never got caught. This was back in the 90's when the big brother boss monitoring probably hadn't fully caught up yet! ?
  6. I dunno, maybe less crashing the host?
  7. I already have T-RackS 5 MAX. The only new thing that I don't have that I'm interested in is the Fame Studio reverb.
  8. Interesting read: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_Studio_Technology VST 3.0 was released in 2008.
  9. My impression is that this MEGA Sampler is not intended to be an alternative to Kontakt, with polished multi-sampled instrument libraries. Rather more like the Waves CR8 sampler, with a library subscription that a producer can use to access & drop selected samples into their session. Well suited for DJ style productions, but could actually be used for anything as a sound design tool. NI should be fine!
  10. My frustration with my Korg X2 workstation sequencer is what eventually drove me to acquire my first PC and Cakewalk! But the Korg did have a cute 3.5" floppy drive that I could load MIDI files that I had downloaded from my work PC at the office. That was fun!
  11. Same here. Still on V Collection 8 though...
  12. This statement reminds me of the first time that I gave my parents a demonstration of MIDI playback with Cakewalk (around 25 years ago) during one of their visits. They were both musicians that could read sheet music, but knew nothing about computers or MIDI. I put the Cakewalk staff view up on the monitor so that they could (reference) follow along with the song. It didn't take them long to arrive at the assumption that the computer was working like an electronic version of an old time player piano. So yeah, MIDI data is similar to the little holes punched in paper (the "piano roll") that tells a player piano what notes to play. But that's not very human readable. That's what scores and notation are for. The advantage with modern DAW "piano rolls" is that modern computer editing tools make them easier to work with.
  13. Here's a handy chart of the Odin2 signal routing from the manual. This synth only takes like 15 minutes to come to terms with, totally intuitive, and great sounding! Very well done semi-modular synth. Up to 3 oscillators (of any type available) that can be selectively routed to up to 2 filters (of any type available), followed by a an optional 3rd filter that can be inserted after the amplifier stage.
  14. I guess professional producers using Avid and Cubase will stick with aax and VST3, as the rest of the world moves ahead. Or not. We'll see... only time will tell how this plays out...
  15. Clap A word with several definitions - https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Clap https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/clap
  16. If the idea was dreamed up by the German folks, it may not have a negative connotation in non-English slang... In any case, it would not be a huge challenge to optimize the name.
  17. You should consider that many developers have struggled with implementing the VST3 "standard" in a 100% stable and compatible fashion. They are the ones pushing for this change, not end users or management. This standard appears to be more MIDI 2.0 and MPE friendly. There are no license fees, and if the development costs to write plugins with this method is the same or cheaper, it's a no-brainer for the business. Stay tuned...
  18. Great idea, but unlikely that the Bakers are reading this thread. Maybe post it here? https://discuss.cakewalk.com/index.php?/forum/8-feedback-loop/

  20. Free synth Odin 2 has been updated to v2.3.3 by the Wave Warden. https://www.thewavewarden.com/odin2 *Screen grab from v2.3.1:
  21. So, I'm assuming that you've already watched the Beatles: Get Back [2021 Mini Series]. Great restored footage, including the Apple Corp rooftop scene!
  22. Are you referring to the Fairfax Vol 1 DEMO, that Larry referenced? As far as I know that appears to be the only thing that was updated. The full Fairfax is the same as it ever was.
  23. Now you can relax, and enjoy that drink! Cheers!
  24. The details were posted this morning in the Kilohearts Discord "news" channel:
