  1. >> I think you must have added the maps via the Inspector after creating the Instrument track... no? Yes. Having separate midi and associated synth audio tracks is really not a problem for me.
  2. One thing here though, if I do it via the split track method, I retain the AD2 map in the PRV. If I do it by changing the output widget tab in the Inspector, I no longer see the AD2 map in the PRV.
  3. "..You can add a drum map to a simple instrument track using the Output widget on the MIDI tab of the Inspector..." Understood and that does work for me. Thanks so much.
  4. the cwp is attached two posts up - can you see it?
  5. I think that answers my OP question. Working with the stripped-down cwp, if I split any of the individual tracks, I can then freeze that particular associated AD2 synth with no problem. Thanks much.
  6. cwp attached. Keep in mind that this is a very simple drum track. I chose it from a very simple song I did way back on Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 because it was simple and I just wanted to experiment as a first time AD2 user. There are 6 AD2 synths. There are also 2 SI-Drum synths for crash cymbals that I used to layer with the AD2 crash cymbal to get a particular sound. Note that freezing the SI synths works fine. If you delete tracks leaving only 1 AD2 synth, you still can't freeze it. AD2-4_stripped.cwp
  7. OK - it went quicker than I thought. I have the stripped down project ready.
  8. My preference is to go the Mark Morgan-Shaw way and I agree with all of his reasons - that is close to what I initially did. I do have a lot of processing power, but would still like the option of freezing individual AD2 synths. Mark said: "Simple freezing/bouncing – Each drum’s audio is frozen independently, so I can commit parts without printing the whole kit." Well, I still can't do that. I'll add that I don't have a single master midi track. I have individual midi tracks per drum instrument. Anyway, I will go forward with David Baay's suggestion for creating a stripped-down project (thanks David). It will take me a while, but I am not sure of the best way to share. Dropbox? A *.cwb file?
  9. First, the answer to the above question is the drum map files for Sonar go here: C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Roaming\Cakewalk\Sonar\Drum Maps\. As for my initial question, as Jonesy said, I can get what I want with just one instance of AD2.
  10. Thx to Max, Bristol_Jonesy, Sailor55, Amberwolf, David & Colin for the comments and helpful suggestions. I have another perhaps related AD2 issue. As I said, all works fine except freezing. When I started this project, using CbB, I used the AD2 Standard drum map downloaded from Mike Enjo (Creative Sauce), AD2 Standard.map. For each Cakewalk AD2 drum track I created a new map using the Cakewalk Drum Map Manager: DM1-AD2 Standard, DM2-AD2 Standard..... These DM*- maps are associated with the project, so they are there after the switch to Sonar if I open that same project. Here is the issue I have. If I open up a new project in Sonar, create an AD2 synth, then go into the Drum Map Manager-->presets, the AD2 Standard map is not listed there. I figured that was because I had not copied AD2 Standard.map into C:\Program Data\Cakewalk\Sonar\Drum Maps. But even after I do that, I still do not see the preset for AD2 Standard. Keep in mind that in CbB, I do see it.
  11. As I said, Nothing bad happens, they just will not freeze. Press the snowflake, nothing happens.
  12. Good question. Previously I did it that way (track per drum instrument) with SI drums (and even before that with TTS-1 drums). I saw a tutorial by Creative Sauce that set up AD2 that way in Cakewalk (he also showed the way you propose). I like the complete flexibility it gives me to add any plugin I have to any drum instrument. I do appreciate that AD2 has its own built in mixer (as well as all kinds of processing that can be applied to individual drum instruments). I actually added specific reverb plugins (running 100% wet) for the hi-hat and snare, with the reverb panned to specific places using the respective pan-pot in the Sonar console. Could I have done similar from within AD2, I guess probably. That said, freezing AD2 synths should work I think.
  13. I am using Addictive Drums 2 (latest just updated today) for the first time on my current project. All has gone well. I am using a separate synth per drum simple instrument track. At this point I wanted to freeze the associated synths. For some reason I can't freeze them. Nothing bad happens, they just will not freeze. I have other synths running that freeze with no problem. Any idea as to what I may be doing wrong. - Thanks.
  14. For me Styx still is a local (Chicago) band. Funny, the track you posted does somehow remind me of my pristine 1969 vinyl copy of "In the Court of the Crimson King" (if one can ever call vinyl pristine). I am a big Greg Lake fan. Anyway, "21st Century Schizoid Man" does bring someone to mind.
  15. I have old 4-track tapes encoded with dbx (consumer grade) noise reduction. I still have the dbx hardware. The tapes are fine I think. The problem is that probably due to capacitor aging, the playback just doesn't sound quite right. I wish there was software for this.
  16. Note that there is Roland Sound Canvas VA (VST2 I think) for GM which at least for the patches I have tried, sounds very similar to TTS-1, but I do notice some differences. I bought it back when it was announced that TTS-1 support was going away. I don't have any old GM hardware. I will say that I like the TTS-1 UI better (and the TTS-1 sounds where they differ from Sound Canvas) and still use it while it continues to work. Of course for any new TTS-1 track I do, I then immediately convert it to audio. I have done that with the numerous old songs I have that use TTS-1. It did not take that long.
  17. Opened up several old songs with TTS-1. Some really old (Cakewalk Pro Audio 9), some not that old. No problems, works great. I did not expect that. Not sure why.
  18. Thx for the info. No it is not excluded and I don't have the CwTuner file. I have a couple of other guitar tuner plugins, including the one in Overloud TH-U. I was just curious as to why your particular installation has that DirectX tuner and mine does not.
  19. Your frustration does not surprise me. FWIW - I have a Focusrite 8i6 and I find the Focusrite control app confusing as hell. Keep in mind that I am a retired electronic engineer and experienced home recordist.
  20. >>> BTW, I think this signal flow chart is one of the more confusing to figure out. Yes but with a little study it I see that it does tell the story, thx sjoens. I did not realize that the Clip FX Rack (I have been using this) is pre-Input Gain.
  21. Bristol_Jonesy - thx for the info. >> Firstly, there are 3 locations for plugins - the Fx Bin & the Pro Channel Probably a typo but you listed only 2 >> Your terminology is a bit misleading... It would not surprise me if I have my terminology definitions wrong. By "Console View track bin" I meant the box in the console view pointed to by the top-most yellow arrow in the pic I posted.
  22. Chaps - Yeah a plugin loaded directly into in the console view track bin is indeed pre. Thanks for that.
  23. Single key shortcuts can be scary though, you have to be careful. I remember panicking over things like a disappearing control bar (I must have inadvertently pressed "c").
