My Honest Review of InstaComposer in Cakewalk by Bandlabs

The review is of the full version. I'm only making a short paragraph about the trail version. I'll edit the post to make that more clear. Thank you! -
Cryostasis by United Plugins --$19 for 4 more days on W. A. Production
GTsongwriter replied to GTsongwriter's topic in Deals
I guess it's time limit is only on W. A. Production? -
I'm not a company or part of it... but I actually really like this plug-in and bought it today from W. A. Production Pretty cool how they can "slow / timewarp" the audio. If there's another way to do this in Cakewalk, then I've been fooled. Otherwise, this plugin works in Cakewalk by Bandlabs! Cryostasis by United Plugins -- $19.00 https://www.waproduction.com/plugins/view/cryostatis Sale ends in 4 days and 6 hours! ---> it's 10/30/2022 at 6:10 pm eastern time when I saw this page.

Everyone wants to tell you all the good things about InstaComposer, but I just bought it and I'm about to load you down on the stuff you need to be aware of. TRIAL VERSION: First: The trail version really is horrible as the trail version was limited to 10 button presses and 2 tracks. I think they don't want you to "really use it" ... just see if it runs in your DAW. The version you downloaded for the trail version is the version you'll activate. FULL VERSION: In Cakewalk by Bandlabs, I finally found a reason to use Matrix View. InstaComposer will create a theme, I can drag the midi onto Matrix View, then create a new theme with InstaComposer and drag that into the Matrix View. I can then use Matrix View to "record" a performance that way much faster. Even though InstaComposer is a great concept, I wish they would fix somethings. A major issue is not having a global undo / redo button. Without this global undo / redo button, life in InstaComposer is not worth it. Activating InstaComposer was a nightmare. It kept telling me I had no internet. I recommend restarting windows after install. Here are problems I have with InstaComposer: - New Chord Prog needs a undo / redo button ---> If you click "New Chord Prog" there is no way to undo this function. You either have to remember the chord sequence or try to figure out the chord sequence from the current tracks you have. (Maybe I should have bought Scaler 2 or Tonic?) - be allowed to click on chords to play them as a group ---> You can't click on any of the chords on the interface to hear just those chords. - Chord Progressions should be allowed to be extracted from tracks ---> Sometimes I change the chord progression for a track, the other tracks don't change. I would like to be able to extract the chord progression for any track, save it or apply it now. - InstaComposer needs to be able to import midi into each track separately ---> You can't currently import midi tracks into it. - Presets should be allowed to have multiple sub folders inside folders inside folders ---> Yes they have presets, but If you create a folder inside a folder inside a folder and then put your preset in there, it InstaComposer can only see the first folder of presets. There are no sub-menu system in InstaComposer for presets. - click on a track box for menu, then click reverse track ---> Yes, I know I could drag and drop the midi into the DAW to work around this, but it would be much better if InstaComposer would do this for you. - there should be a "global undo / redo" buttons on the top right of the screen... left of W. A. Production ----> I know there's 1 undo / redo button that's in the View: Editor, but it's hidden and does not work globally. As I continue to use InstaComposer, I'll add to this list. Best Regards!

Hi, I've installed a laundry list of software that requires internet connection to activate, like Waves Audio, Native Instruments, Spitfire Audio, etc. and had NO Issues with internet access for those products to activate.... but W.A. Production's InstaComposer won't activate because of "no internet"! Anyone know what port / ip address that InstaComposer needs access to ?? The only help W.A. Production is offering is BLAMING YOUR COMPUTER, by saying your windows version isn't up to date, etc. Which is NO HELP at all... why not just say OPEN port XXXX or allow XXXXXX.exe program to have access.... nope, they won't tell you! Any help, PLEASE? P.S. Sent an Email to them... 1 - 2 business days wait time ----------------------------------- Restarted windows solved the issue

Hi, It's like more and more companies that make plug-ins do not want to include Cakewalk by Bandlabs into their lists of compatible DAWs. Melody Sauce - https://www.evabeat.com/ Scaler 2 - https://www.pluginboutique.com/products/6439 iZotope -https://www.pluginboutique.com/product/3-Studio-Tools/51-Audio-Restoration-/9560-RX-Elements-v10- to name a few... So what gives?

They no longer have a demo. They use "Let's Encrypt" for their SSL for a business website?? "Let's Encrypt" mainly used by malware / hackers. Did they sign their exe file with a valid certificate or did Windows give you a yellow warning not to install it because of "unknown" software? Those reasons above makes me NOT want to buy this software. Another warning sign is they decided not to sell Orb Producer 3 on https://www.pluginboutique.com Pluginboutique uses Cloudflare, Inc for website SSL verification. All those warning signs .... it's like, I'm not going to buy that product unless they make me feel more safe about buying it. Just having "Let's Encrypt" as their SSL makes anything they say on their website not worth anything. If they used at least Comodo (which is now Sectigo) would be the minimum of a well known company. The "free" SSL is used by so many hackers, scammers, malware, etc. Their website is actually much worse using that ...than if they just had a http without https. Edit: They also changed their website name from https://www.orb-composer.com to https://www.orbplugins.com So, are they just trying to run and hide from something? changing names and stuff? This is really something you should look at... will they be there in the future to support the product or just disappear? Is this even the same company?? They don't have a demo any longer...so how do we know it's not a scammer? They are so absent minded they forgot to remove the old website from the legal terms? https://www.orbplugins.com/mentions-legales/ All these warning signs smells like scammer website. Edit 2: https://www.scamadviser.com/check-website/orbplugins.com * 67 out of 100 on scamadviser ... websites that don't get 100 I don't trust! * The Tranco rank (how much traffic) is rather low * The age of this site is (very) young.

How hard is it to program multiple line hints? very easy Here's Delphi's one line code: Image2.hint := 'Record (Comping) [R]' + #13 + 'Left click and hold for more options'; Go from this: To this: I did the above ... screen shot it, the I added it to Delphi 11... then I created a hint for that button. Very simple and easy to do.

Your antivirus must have ate the program. Have you tried to re-install with your antivirus turned off?

There's two installers for CakeWalk. One that is CakeWalk only and the other comes with Bandlab Assistant. I downloaded the CakeWalk only. Plus, I have been using CakeWalk since the 90s. I own several copies of Sonar Producer that I paid for. I also own Project 5 and Music Creator. Everyone seems to be missing the point. It's probably due to the Troll that came here to hassle me about my feature request. Do y'all think only professionals use CakeWalk? That little kids aren't in school learning CakeWalk? It's now a free program and what school wouldn't take advantage of free? I have plenty of knowledge on CakeWalk. I'm thinking about the people whom are brand new to CakeWalk, maybe don't even have our wit or knowledge. Maybe even kids from elementary school just learning about music. To make it easier on them will bring new blood to CakeWalk. I personally have no issues finding what I need and of course the majority of the users here on the forums. The problem is about other people whom are less knowledgeable and do not have the skills we have. They also may not have the knowledge on how to search for what they need. We should make it easier for them.
-
You know, the people whom either try to piss you off or bring up a problem that has been discussed before, to drag it on and on and on and on... Cuss at you because they think it's funny. Try to get under your skin on a topic that doesn't really need discussing. You've even got trolls that have tons of green dot points next to their names. Just saying... Anyone else come across these toxic individuals whom seem to be #1, smarter than everyone else, nobody else matters, don't think about others, belittle your intelligence, etc?
-
Byron Dickens, It's easy for you to tell me this because I'm on these forums, but if you think about others and how confused they would be... Think about others and don't think everyone is at your level of expertise. There are so many varieties of people out there and you should always strive to make it easier for the other guy or gal. Best Regards, El Diablo

Go ahead.. open up CakeWalk. Click Help, then Click Documentation. I get the error "Failed to launch help". There's no offline documentation??? Then you really badly need yellow hints to be much much better than the obvious! A well made program has functional hints and not "this button is play, this one is pause, this one is record", etc. and the pictures are literally already showing what it is. Unless your in elementary school, you already know what record and play buttons look like!! Documentation is only as good as the person looking for a solution. If you know what your looking for then it'll be easy, otherwise if you can't find the words of what you are looking for the documentation does you no justice!!! Plus, who wants to spend hours, days, months, and years looking for something and the developer could have just waved his hands and magically made the yellow hints make more sense. It's a very very easy fix for the developer.

Is there a SDK for programming CakeWalk only specific plugins?
GTsongwriter posted a question in Q&A
I know there's a VST 3, but instead of making an agreement with Steinberg, it might be better to write plugins just for CakeWalk. I found an out dated SDK for CakeWalk based on Microsoft, but with all the advancements made to CakeWalk, I would think there would be a better SDK. Think of it this way... If we can create some really neat plugins only for CakeWalk using the SDK, it will be more native to CakeWalk, less crashing of plugins, and more features that can be added without bugging the developers so much. The developers of CakeWalk can then focus on bug fixing while there plug-in developers can focus on creating new features, new plugins better than VST3, etc. It will bring new people to CakeWalk! So, if there's not a SDK that can do this, I'll make it a feature request. -
Hi, Please make the record button understandable by saying in the "yellow hints" ... You know the yellow pop-up hints when you hover over a button for a moment or two. Just say "Left click and hold for more options" instead of the obvious "Record (Comping) [R]" for the record button. Or combine two hints together! I had to do some serious research to find out what I remembered that CakeWalk "used to have"..I really thought CakeWalk might have gotten rid of that feature. All the hints should get revised and not just state the obvious. Especially if there's a hidden menu. I thought the "Step Record" was removed until recently. So, please update the hints to clarify any special menus. Not everyone is smart enough to figure out what the developer(s) was thinking when CakeWalk was created. Bandlab now has a chance to correct what was wrong and make it right. Thank you Bandlab and the developers of Bandlab! See Post for visual images of before and after: Post 382991

(Solved) FOUND: Hidden Feature: Step Recording!
GTsongwriter replied to GTsongwriter's question in Q&A
When I right click on the record button, Cakewalk brings me to preferences -> project -> Record area and not the step recorder. Edit: If you left click and hold, you will then get a menu to setup the record button for step record. To change it back, left click and hold ... Choose "Comping". -
I accidentally pressed quote and now I can't delete the quote. Mobile Chrome sucks. Anyhow, here's a good read https://devblogs.microsoft.com/windows-music-dev/unofficial-windows-10-audio-workstation-build-and-tweak-guide-part-1/ "The majority of your performance is going to come from picking a good audio interface with good ASIO drivers." From the above guide.
