My chin hit my chest at 4:36 . I think some of the sounds (on their own) wouldn't be that relaxing . Somehow they all worked great together. Very impressive , Loved it .. mark

Bad Moon Rising (CCR cover) a darker version ..
mark skinner replied to mark skinner's topic in Songs
Thanks , different is what I was going for. It was pretty easy getting the song to work with this heavier vibe. Appreciate that. I leaned pretty hard on Pro R plate reverbs. I kept hunting for different guitar treatment , but stayed with Bias FX. Thank's , My old vocal chords have lost a lot of clairity .. I "almost" started a BB King and Joe Cocker song. I may try it at some point. Thank You , I've actually been sneaking in remixes , mainly just volume automation and calming the reverbs down a little. The guitar parts were enjoyable to do. I'm not much of a lead player but the fills come pretty easy. I Really appreciate the listens and comments , all of you keep me going .. mark -
Hello , I thought I'd do a cover that I've been playing around with for a while. I did it just for my own satisfaction while in between originals. I've always wondered why nobody covered this "dark" song , taking it out of the rockabilly genre. Anyway .. if you hear anything that would improve it , please let me know. Thanks for the listen .. mark -link now reflects a remix- https://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=14700231

I think we all do . But .. a quiet low harmony and even "whispering" under a lead vocal can add a tremondous amount of thickening . It's So much easier than singing higher . No reason not to try it , even before your high harmony's are done. ms

Very Nice and clear mixes. For future songs I think more "low" harmony would ground the vocals a little better. Especially in songs with such high melody lines. Great album especially for a debut. Enjoyed it .. mark

SubVibe , "Awesome" job on this one. You Really showed your mixing and production skills. This was increadably smooth with some great break and fill parts. I didn't find it lacking in anything. Truly enjoyed it .. mark

Echidna's Arf and Dupree's Paradise- Zappa songs - covered by Z.E.R.O.
mark skinner replied to Examigan's topic in Songs
Examigan , I believe complicated was an "understatement" , especially on echidnas-arf. I'll bet that one was a nightmare to edit and get it to the level you have it. It seemed to me , the Very ending got cut off a little . Probably from the streaming site. The drums were Killer on it. I believe your bass player was the star on Duprees-paradice. Fantastic mix/master on both of them ! I enjoyed the listen .. mark -
Kjetil , I Loved the guitar part at 1:23. got a little of that U2 feel. I think the mix sounds Very nice. If I were to change anything I think I would try to thicken up the lead vocals a little. Maybe reducing the brightness a little would help ?? hyggelig .. mark

Kevin , Great production ! I can't ever get my bases sounding good using amp sims. Your vocals and the treatment on them was Fantastic ! Loved it .. mark

Having trouble creating a simple groove clip
mark skinner replied to mark skinner's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
OK , I just took 1 bar with only 2 drum hits in it. I used the audio snap pallet to get the hits right. Bounced to clip. Enabled groove clipping . The clip stretched twice it's length. Opened loop construction view and changed the note duration . The clip stayed the same length , but was if it had been dragged 1 more measure . Got out of loop construction and the clip can be dragged further out (or back) to 1 bar working as a groove clip should. I still haven't figured out why I cant just double click the clip and get to where I can change the settings. I'll play with it further but I can deal with this and get more familiar with audio snap and looping. On my laptop I can just enable groove clip and it seems to work fine. ?? Thanks for the help. I can at least make a groove clip now. mark -

I'm finding the settings in "loop construction" view. It wasn't available in my modified basic workspace. I'm still playing with it and reading the documentation and watching Cake videos. Slowly getting results. Thanks .. mark -
Listening to this brought back some Nice , long gone familiar feelings. Lets do the time warp again .. mark

Having trouble creating a simple groove clip
mark skinner replied to mark skinner's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Yes , it's actually an old drum computer (per the name on the unit) that i haven't used in years. I actually Like the audio sample it is outputting , and I haven't found a Vsti that outdoes the sample needed for the song. I know I said it would only be a place keeper, but I would like to keep the internal audio sound it's producing. I'll try that. I've run into problems locating the settings for beats per clip etc .. Only found the up and down arrows for changing it , but don't see the current values. I thought it was my modified "basic" work space settings. I changed to "advanced" with the same results. I'll get back on it in the morning. Thanks .. mark -
Having trouble creating a simple groove clip

?? Would I have to go into clip properties ? So .. If I'm playing it in real time , I need to play so far out of time I can actually cut the clip at major timeline markers ? I'm only having to move the notes about 1/128 or so . I want them dead on to use instead of using the metronome. This doesn't sound very efficient but I'll try it. I think I've been using the highest point in the waveform to line up , but should be using the Very start of the hits. ? I still feel like something else is wrong. @David Baay I was typing as you responded. When I'm done editing , both ends of the clip are dead on boundaries. I'll look at the track inspector clip properties. Thanks guys.. mark -
Hello , I'm laying out a new song and trying to record 4 "audio" kick drum hits . I'm using a Yamaha drum pad with just the mono line out going into my interface. I've cut the 4 hits and aligned them to the timeline. Bounce to clips and save. When I right click the clip and enable "groove clipping" I get the message about discarded sections. Enable groove clipping and the lower ends of the clip get their transverse line as normal and the clip "stretches" to about twice it's original length. I don't know what I'm doing wrong .. This has happened before and I normally end up just copying and pasting. This should be pretty straight forward and a quick way to put in some drum "place holders" to be replaced later. Thanks for any insight. mark

I've done a substantial Remix (2) that the link now reflects. I think it's real close to calling it done. I did some close up note editing , EQ changes and got the guitars panned away from the Vox tracks. That solved a lot of the problems. I'll probably do a little more work on the drums and let it rest for a while . Thanks .. mark @DeeringAmps Thanks Tom for the listen and comment. I used to Love listening to a "completely finished" song with my Bose QC2 headphones. (they've got a crackle in them now). Not very good in the early stages , as they made everything sound too good. Mine have been wired , taped up , epoxied back together so many times , I only use them for noise cancelling using my power tools. Later .. mark @DeeringAmps The final mix now reflects some drum changes suggested in your Next comment. I didn't want to bump the song back up , so I edited it here. Thanx .. mark

Hello , the link now reflects "remix 1". I added a shaker to the chorus sections (still needs some work). I changed the drums up some and reduced their volume. Worked on the bass guitar and did minor reverb changes on the G&L and Vox. Still in the early stages and still needs a little close up editing . Thanks .. mark

@lapasoa Interesting .. Do you render the region before dragging it to a midi track , and what is the advantage of doing it that way ? I hope it's because the results are better. I haven't had much luck with the process even with simple parts. Thanks .. mark

Seems I can remember it being missing on one of my earlier versions. I think a full install brought it back on my main daw pc. It's showing up here on my laptop as well. ms

@Teegarden , Thanks .. I'm in the middle of a remix now . There was a boost in the high mids at the mastering stage that may have been excessive. Normally this drum synth sounds good without messing with the EQ hardly any. I'll look closer at it. I'm also settling it down a bit using 1/8 instead of 1/16 patterns. I think it's a little busy for this type of song. I also centered the outro lead guitar , sounds better. I'll post a remix in a day or two. Still in the early stages .. Thanks .. mark

Hello , here's the Final Remix of a country ballad I wrote with my former bass player "Ebb". Pretty simple song done with my Yairi acoustic , Ibanez bass , and G&L electric. I used MT Power drums and Cakewalk effects. Thanks for the help getting this finished. mark https://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=14693407

Very Dramatic ! Lots of Cool stuff happening here. I Really liked the dark feel this one portrayed. If you're looking for any suggestions , I think I would fade the bass quicker on the outro. Loved it .. mark
