  1. What do you mean you are locked out? Do you mean you getting no sound when you play back the MIDI track? If you want to trigger the CP33 and hear the internal sounds, you need to run a return MIDI cable from the computer out to the keyboard in (set that as the output on your midi track). Then you also need to run audio cables from the keyboard L/R main outs. I don't believe the CP 33 is multi-tambral, so all the MIDI data will transmit on channel 1 only

  2. Very cool stuff Bjorn! Well crafted, love the moody and mysterious textures. I just bought Falcon BTW, really really loving it so far.

Very nice. It's a cool version. Btw, I actually played this song on guitar for my end-year performance when I was in Strings in Junior High. All three judges gave me high scores but all three said the feel wasnt quite right in one of the sections.

In my defence, I had never heard the song. This was back in the mid 80s and my local record store didnt have a cassette of it.

I'm sure a great sight reader wouldnt have had a probem but oh well. I just blame it on my Strings teacher. In the words of Mr Miyogi... "No such thing as bad student, only bad teacher".  😄

Funny story, lol! I'm sure you did fine, they were just being picky. Better than I would have done! I started on a traditional track with piano when I was a kid and was a terrible sight reader, or any music note reader for that matter! I could play by ear, so when I got older I just started playing and arranging based around chords

  4. Back in the 1990's, I played and recorded with a popular Christian artist Las Vegas, NV, by the name of Annie Meadows. She had a wonderful Christmas album she released at the time called Memories. This modern arrangement of the well known and beloved piece by J.S. Bach was the prelude for the album (arranged and performed on the album by an fellow musician from the area, Brian Hicks). I remember those days fondly, and wanted to re-record this piece for Christmas this year!

All done in CbB as always, and I was really happy with the quality and realism of the piano samples (combination of Keyscape and my Korg Kronos).

"Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring" is the popular English title of this piece from an Advent chorale Bach composed in 1723. This enduring work is often heard at weddings, as well as during Advent, Christmas, and Easter.

  5. Wow Steve, just a  fabulous job on this! Seriously, you're like the "Fab One"! Really great production all the way around, but the vocal harmonies are especially impressive.

Nice Ross, thanks for the comment on soundcloud for mine, for some strange reason it will not let me reply1.

Like the drum FX on this, very triblem mix works well here.

Hey Wookie, thanks for the listen and kind word here and on SC!

    Hi Ross

I Loved this - it really sound fabulous and those deep threatening vocals - great stuff.

When I saw the title it thought it was  about Rhinos and possibly Rhino Poaching - my wife and I run a Company in South Africa that we set up to Counter Rhino Poaching, so its a subject very close to our Hearts!!

    https://www.rikrhino.co.za/2024/02/28/an-urgent-call-to-combat-the-rise-in-rhino-poaching/

I even did an album to make some money for the cause!!

    Great stuff, really enjoyed this

    Nigel

Hey Nigel, thanks so much for the listen and kind comment! The deep throating vocs are one of the Tuvan voices from Omnisphere.

That is truly horrifying about the Rhino poaching! Kudos to you and your wife for the good work for that cause.

Ross, excellent track. Very creative and probably a whole lot of fun putting together those sounds.  I thought at first you were using one of the Tuvan voices from Omnisphere, but maybe not.

Which came first, the artwork or the song title?  😄
    -Bjorn

Thanks so much Bjorn for the listen and kind words! Good ear my friend, it is indeed one of the Tuvan singer patches from Omnisphere! I took a small bit and groove clipped it. The other voices are me tho, lol!

Song title first, then the artwork (from Deviant Art)...

OK, that buildup at 1:30 was aces. This is killer.  So much going on but everything in its own space.  I just started loitering here but I bet this isn’t your first rodeo.  Well done.

Thanks so much for the listen and the kind comment! I do go way back with Cakewalk, however this style/genre of music is definitely a new adventure. Just having fun experimenting and pushing new boundaries!

  11. The ASIO driver mode only allows for one device to be connected at a time. You need to uncheck the Behringer in Preferences, and then you can use the Yamaha/Steinberg drivers. I have a Yamaha MOXF8 that also has the Steinberg drivers. I don't use those drivers, I just record the onboard sounds through my Focusrite 4i4, using USB midi, along with  L/R audio cables.

Good work, sounds like it could be in a action movie soundtrack.

Thanks so much, appreciate the listen and comment!! 👍

  13. Just playing around with some sounds and stuff (mainly on Omnisphere and my Korg Kronos), and came up with this fun little piece! I saw Hans Zimmer live recently, and it kind of inspired me to have fun experimenting, and to not be afraid to venture outside of my usual little creative box! All done in Cakewalk by Bandlab.

    Hi Ross

One of my favorite Hendrix tracks - I've never heard the Eric Clapton/Sheryl Crow live cover version, but really I don't think that matters as this is truly a GREAT version - absolutely love it!

    Great performances all round

    Great stuff

    Nigel

Hey Nigel, thanks a lot from the whole crew, glad you enjoyed! I had never heard it either, and Tone, my female singing partner, suggested it. I loved it, and it kind of took off from there. We all had a blast doing it!!

It is a good international work, I enjoyed it. Let me personally make a contribution by stating that I agree with the criticism of Wookiee; it seems "Crash and Ride" also felt a bit of "Harshness", apart from that, every instrument/vocal in the mix is very balanced and can easily be heard, congratulations and also thanks for sharing!

Thanks so much for the listen and feedbasck!

Thanks for sharing the song; very nice cover.  Special thanks for the details of your collaborative process.  When CbB started the integration with Bandlab (BLX export/import) I saw great potential for possible collaborations with my own musical building blocks.

So far as I can have seen, this forum has not had much discussion of and insights into collaborative processes (options for making it work, strengths and drawbacks  of various choices, etc.  Thanks also to Wookie for his comments and for your response it inspired regarding the different recording skills and choices made by your collaborators, including some of the methods you are considering working with an all-in-one *.wav file. Please feel free to share the results of your attempts at working magic.  What you find works and doesn't work as hoped might be useful to others.

For my own personal music-making goals, I am optimistic about what the new software might offer longtime Cakewalk/SONAR users esp. with project-sharing with collaborators and potential collaborators.  Even though this project was mixed and mastered with CbB, I assume the experiences you have shared (and might continue to share) will be applicable to collaborative projects with the new software.

Thanks so much for the listen and thoughtful feedback! Glad if you got something positive out of the shared process. Online collaboration certainly has gotten easier than ever now with platforms like BandLab. Still not an ideal scenario when you're dealing with a lot of recording variables between players, and just using finished WAV files to mix. It obviously would be cleaner to have Cakewalk project files from everyone, but then that adds a whole other layer to the process of finding the "right" players for the project, namely those who are set up and skilled in CW to provide that. Honestly, if that was the criteria with this group, we probably wouldn't be a group, lol! :) Believe me, I share the "Audiophile" tendencies with so many in the group here, and want my productions to be the best they can be. But I guess part of the point is, the process and finished product don't need to be ideal and perfect, and I don't want to let that hold me back from making music, having fun, and moving on to the next one!

Regarding your CbB/Sonar question, I don't plan to switch over to Sonar via subscription model, and will continue riding CbB as long as my computer will let me! However, certainly the same type process/workflow would apply with new Sonar (or really any DAW for that matter).
