Sound effects you can never really have too many/too much. So I keep them all -- right now that comes to 1.3 TB. I don't use a SSD though to store them though.

https://sonniss.com/gameaudiogdc2020/ The Google Drive and WeTransfer links don't seem to have limits, the Box.Net only let you do limited simultaneous downloads so I don't recommend using them. They do these GDC packs every year and are generally some great sound effects.

I've been torn on this one myself. I really don't like the SINE player all that much. I have Ark 1 and 2 in it and they just aren't as good as the Kontakt versions. Instruments in it don't seem to have full scripts like with Kontakt. It's one of the things that EastWest lost when they went with Play. You can see how much better an instrument can be when you couple it with a full on scripting language (like those NI Discovery instruments). It's why UVI and Kontakt instruments seem so much better than all of these second tier sample engines (SINE/Play/Best Engine/etc) instruments. As for this specific library, I'm not sure something built for a specific project like this is ideal. But I also think sampling and building software instruments is a skill of it's own, not related to the instrument. It's writing software more than anything musical. To get a good instrument requires software development skills/experience and ideally experience with the instruments as well. Then the sampling/recording/processing is another skill (or skills). Plus the players and their skill. And most of that skill is really more experience. My take on this product is it's a generic buffet. So I don't think any one of the instruments is going to have the kind of detail and quality you'd really want. If you look at the instrument list page, they don't even have descriptions of what they are. No photos, no details at all. it's just a big list. General MIDI, Chinese Orchestra edition if you will. I'm not so sure there will ever be a better sale price though. It's still not clear what kind of sale plans OT is going to follow.

Isn't that Sound Forge 13 not the newer 14?
-
I've moved my direct digital sub to Sound On Sound to Zinio because it's so much cheaper (added another year with this sale). They have even gone as much as 50% off. The bad part is you don't get access to the SoS website/forums and you can't download the issues as PDF files (only direct subs have those benefits). But the savings are pretty substantial. Zinio's reader is also much better than the SoS app (on Android anyway).

This is the VR stuff: https://www.freetousesounds.com/product/vr-ambisonic-sound-library/ And the files do seem to work with Ambisonic compatible plugins.

You have to download in about 4gig chunks. It's pretty annoying. But isn't completely impossible. They have some read me files that outline how it all works. I'm not sure Bandcamp is any better/different. I do know that since I bought it they have added more stuff and I've been able to download the new things. Which is nice. I started on the VR stuff and the Pro Edited stuff. And now I'm working my way through the Complete section. While the downloading is very painful the quality of the stuff is actually pretty good. I always need ambiences and backgrounds for animation work, and this has a ton of that kind of sound effects. At the rate I'm going I should have the whole collection downloaded by the end of Oct.

The file path problem is fixed if you use Pulse version 40.0.2, mine was version 38 and it kept complaining it couldn't connect to the update server and as a result never got updated. A manual re-download and install fixed that. I guess they fixed the zip has bad characters for Windows file paths creates an error message problem. The extracted PDF file is still named differently on Windows than it is on Mac, but with the newer Pulse downloader you don't get an error. As for this speeding up work flow and being fun and inspiring to use? Personally no. Easier to just drop in wav files and hand draw envelopes in a video editor. But I think Resolve may support Kontakt and could be used with this? I don't think that works in Premiere though, but I'll admit I've never tried loading a VSTi in Premiere.

I went ahead and picked this up -- I have lots of crowd sound effects but I've not seen a playback engine/system. This is kind of weak as far as Kontakt instruments/crowd playback engines go though. The download zip fails to install on Windows because the license agreement file is named "Crowd Hype User Manual | User Agreement.pdf" which when uncompressed on a PC becomes "Crowd Hype User Manual _ User Agreement.pdf" I really get tired of Mac filenames. But despite the Pulse downloader reporting the error you do get everything. They have saved the patched as a Kontakt monolith where the script and the samples are all saved together. When I re-saved it with the samples separately there are only 13 samples: Crowd Whoa Vocals.wav Crowd Claps Master.wav Stomp & Clap.wav Holler Stomp bounce.wav Patriots 8 Line Level_Whistle_2.wav Crowd_Cheer_Line_6_Reactions_V02.wav Crowd_Cheer_Line_6_Reactions_V01.wav Crowd_Cheer_Line_1_V02.wav Crowd_Cheer_Line_1_V01.wav Crowd_Cheer_2_Verb.wav Patriots 6 Line Level_2_Verb.wav Patriots 3_Line_3.wav You can watch their videos to see how they work. The Kontakt instrument script isn't encrypted. It's basically just those samples mapped to keys with the mod wheel. There is a lot of potential here for a much better product. But they would need a lot more samples and a much more complex instrument. I think this is slightly overpriced to be honest (even the sale price). It should be like $15 at Kontakt Hub not $79. If you are looking for some crowd sound effects you might want to check out https://www.freetousesounds.com/ They are selling full access to everything for $20 in the All In One Bundle https://www.freetousesounds.com/product/all-in-one-sound-library-bundle/ While it's very painful to download things from their cloud provider, the Pro Edited By Zapsplat batch 4 has 12 "American football crowd" sounds that are pretty good long recordings. Not to mention all the other sound effects included. I've downloaded about 281gigs of sounds from them and have easily gotten my $20 out of it.

Nope. There are no change notes yet, but after installing the updates the pro channel modules still crash for me.
-
I think what really matters is how much credit having this gets you for getting the full Soundtoys 5 bundle. In the past they were very generous with their "Little" plugins as stepping stones to the full bundle. If having this helps you there, it is a no-brainer.
-
The automation parameters in the effect rack are supported but in Cakewalk they don't have names, they are all just "unnamed" Then when you pick it, the actual parameter does show up in the automation lane, but it's so small you can't really read it. The individual plugins are much easier to automate in Cakewalk.
-
I have the full bundle (so it might be different) but in the effects rack if you add one of the plugins and click the gear icon a preset drop down shows up that shows just that module's presets.

Hate to say it but comparing the tone/audio from this to MODO Bass and even the Kontakt Scarbee Pre-Bass I'd take MODO any day over this. It's just kind of blah. Usable and functional but not much more than that. Maybe I'm missing it? Perhaps using the DI version and feeding it into Amplitude would help. The MIDI phrases are pretty nice though and I love the whole grid editor/etc. But soundwise this doesn't seem to fix EzBass's shortcomings. I might just not be the right guy to evaluate the tone and playablity, but as a casual user I don't think I'll be using the sound part of this very much at all.
-
Looks like 133 new MIDI loops in the expansion (vs 1256 in the base product).
-
So will all the EzBass expansions be based on 5 string basses? That doesn't seem very "classic rock" to me.
-
I really don't understand the currency conversion on this one. Where did Best get $49 from? It includes new MIDI as well as the sound (unlike the EzKey sound expansions). $40 off a $89 product at release is a crazy good deal.

Orchestral Tools Sine Player updated to 1.05
Matthew Sorrels replied to Larry Shelby's topic in Deals
This might be of interest to Cakewalk users: What's New Version: v1.0.5 Changes in this version: SINE Player 1.0.5 resolves an issue leading to freezes and crashes in some sequencers, and brings some other fixes and tweaks. New Features: The Mic Remote will now show sound levels for all mic positions. UI Improvements: The Library will now no longer refresh automatically and reset open folders while downloads are running. If no instrument is loaded in the Articulation List, the Performance View will show a message to that effect. Performance and Reliability Improvements: SINE wrongly assumed that all audio production would run on a sequencer's audio thread(s). Turned out some do their own thing, and now SINE is ready for it. This fix solves the Logic Pro crashes and freezes reported, as well as stopping SINE from freezing when using Cubase's "Freeze" feature. It also makes SINE work in Cakewalk again. Fixed a crash when unloading a plugin instance while preloading was still running. Fixed an issue where the host would freeze if started without an audio driver selected. When overlapping notes while keyswitching, in some cases notes could hang. Now they will correctly stop. When you had single articulations of an instrument loaded, and afterwards installed additional mic positions of that instrument, existing projects would wrongly load all articulations of the instrument. Now they only load what was loaded previously. When you dragged an instrument on top of an existing instrument, it would lose its MIDI channel assignment. When importing existing content, in some cases a duplicate Series entry was created. When two instruments were set to "Omni" MIDI channel and you adjusted the playable range of the 2nd instrument, it would not react to MIDI anymore. If you try to delete a mic position that was already removed from your hard drive for whatever reason, SINE won't crash anymore.- 1 reply

Host Bypass button greyed out on NI Solid Mix Series Plugins

Host Bypass button greyed out on NI Solid Mix Series Plugins
Matthew Sorrels replied to norfolkmastering's question in Q&A
Seems that way for me too, you can toggle the enable on the plugin in the track but the plugin window's Host Bypass toggle button is disabled. All the Native Instrument effect plugins seem that way in the most recent CbB. It's not just NI plugins either, the Host Bypass button is disabled on lots of plugins (though not all of them). I think it must be some sort of feature that plugins have to support and not all of them do. http://forum.cakewalk.com/Host-bypass-Not-active-m3524917.aspx -

Ah, your right. It's been awhile since I looked at a Cakewalk crash dump. I think I confused it with the Roland GrooveSynth DXi. Anything loading out of the Shared DXI directory scares me.
-
So your crash shows the following as a module loaded by SONAR Platinum: *a:\program files (x86)\Cakewalk\shared dxi\AAS\M1\M1.dll Which is all kinds of weird. I'm not sure why it's a DirectX plugin? And why the crash says it's loading off of drive a: (which is also the path for asio4all) (crash paths can be wrong/broken though but it's very odd) I also see GroovePlayer.dll loaded (it's buggy, don't use it) and two ASIO drivers (ASIO4ALL which is never a good idea) and a DigiTech GNX3000 ASIO driver. I don't think you are loading anything close to the current Korg M1 VST plugin or if you are I can't understand why it's installed in the shared dxi directory? I suspect you need to correctly configure SONAR/CbB (ideally you really need to let Platinum go) to load plugins from the correct directories. You also may need to clean out a bunch of Cakewalk shared directories. I don't recommend installing 3rd party plugins into the same directories as Cakewalk's internal plugins. Most likely what your running in Studio One isn't the same thing your running inside SONAR/Cakewalk which is why it works for Studio One and not for Cakewalk. I'm willing to bet your crash is almost certainly software installation/configuration based. Uninstall things. Delete directories Reinstall in a clean an organized manner. Reset SONAR/Cakewalk configurations and paths and set them to the correct ones. For example I recommend picking simple directories to install plugins to. Here's what I'm using: 32-bit plugins install to C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\VST2 64-bit plugins install to C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST2 VST3 plugins are always supposed to be installed in these directories, even if some vendors will let you change this, doing so is never a good idea: 32-bit VST3 install to C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\VST3 64-bit VST3 install to C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3 You may also need to reinstall various Microsoft C++ runtime DLLs and/or update Windows. Which can sometimes help these kinds of crashes.
