  1. If that's true, I'm not sure what to make of this: https://babyaud.io/blog/baby-audio-has-acquired-denise-audio
  2. 127. It derives from using 8 bits to represent numbers where the largest bit is used for negative values (two's-complement). As there are only 7 bits remaining we can represent 2^7 non-negative values. Including 0, the range is 0-127. That sounds about right; the disk and memory requirements would be enormous. 8Dio love Ultra Deep Sampling their instruments and I don't think even they do it.
  3. You could try Studio One (I know; it's a DAW rather than a plugin), or Pianoteq. It probably depends on what the notes are doing though - if they're dancing around, it might be difficult for them to recognise the overall chords.
  4. Thanks for sharing this. I was interested in some of their other libraries. But (I'm fairly sure) I have enough Kontakt libraries to cover the areas, and I don't really want to install HALion.
  5. I was recently looking for a MIDI controller to replace an aging IK iRig Keys (1). I ended up with an MPK mini plus: 37 mini keys, a great feature set, and a small footprint. I thought about an NI one, but it either had too few keys or was too big for the small space I have.
  6. I don't understand either. In their goodbye statement, they mentioned something about democratising music; I fail to see how audio plugin technology would contribute towards that goal. Maybe it's something to do with Meta's VR world (I forget it's name).
  7. In the few videos I've seen, this guy seems fairly honest.
  8. This seems like it might be relevant
  9. I now see the influencers as a bunch of people who are paid (one way or another) to put on a show to demo plugins. When they say it's the 'best' plugin, is it true? Maybe, though probably not; not saying it's bad, just not necessarily as good as they make it out to be (though there's always that possibility). But, is it useful that they run through the plugin's features and play some presets/demos? I think so, by that's just my take. I do remember a 'huh?' moment from one video I watched recently. The guy said the usual 'this is not a sponsored video', and followed it up with 'click on the affiliate link to help the channel'... How do you simultaneously have both an affiliate link and a video's that's not in any way sponsored? (rhetorical question)
  10. Hey @Peter - IK Multimedia Just a thought: if IK don't want to sign their Windows binaries (for whatever reason), would they consider putting up SHA-256 checksums or something so people can verify their downloads if they want to?
  11. As I understand, MS did this to comply with the law; I don't think you'll find a single company who wouldn't. Here's a clip from the Ubuntu website.
  12. I wouldn't say it's useless - you pay more when you don't use it. It might end up at the 'same' price as before tax, but you'd pay more otherwise.
  13. Can't answer your 2nd question. But for the 1st, inspiration and ability to try out different ideas quickly.
  14. I agree - it's probably a false positive. My guess is that Availability.exe is for the new subscriptions. As mentioned in another thread, some products appear to need an online connection at least every 72 hours. My guess is that Availability.exe scans the hardware it's running on, converts the results into some kind of hash ID, and sends it back to IK for subscription status verification at regular intervals. This might be seen as suspicious behaviour. From a trusted source, it's no problem. But for an app that isn't trusted*, it could potentially be considered as malicious - hence flagged by malware scanners. * By trusted, I mean from the computer's perspective, i.e. the app is signed with a trusted certificate.
  15. My guess is that you can use the product offline for up to 72 hours before needing to reconnect, rather than the actual subscription being cancelled.
  16. I think it's probably fine. I suspect: Any ongoing downloads will be interrupted upon logout means any in-progress downloads will be stopped. It's unclear whether you'll have to start downloading from scratch the next time it starts up again, or if it will resume a partial download. Logging out will deactivate any active subscriptions and Ensure you reconnect within 72 hours. Failure to do so will render the product non-functional refer to the new piano subscriptions. In other words, you need IK Product Manager running in order to use the new pianos under their subscription plan. Just my guess though.
  17. It's not signed at all and has never been so. I suspect it's because it's frowned upon but not disallowed on Windows. I mentioned it to Peter about a year ago and he said he'd raise it with the dev team. Ultimately, I suspect it's not the dev team that buys the certificates though.
  18. It's still there, though it's a bit pricier now. I'm guessing part of the cost goes towards Dolby Atmos licensing?
  19. I brought this up over a year ago when Peter asked what would make us perceive IK to be 'more' professional (as just about every other big player - and even some smaller ones - in the industry sign theirs). I think despite the huge profits IK must make with their group buys, etc. they're just not willing to buy a code signing certificate.
  20. Seems like EZbass could be a good candidate - that has hardly ever discounted so far.
  21. If they've created a Linux version, I hope they port the Studio One Remote app too.
  22. I love Bassroom, but am still to be convinced of Mixroom. Don't get me wrong, it seems like a good EQ; but there are so many other full-spectrum EQs too.
  23. Depending on your setup/requirements, you might be interested in IK's iLoud Micro Monitor. Be aware that in terms of setup, they're more like stereo speakers than monitors: both powered by a single power supply (so only one wall socket needed), and audio input via 1/8 TRS or stereo phono. They fit my setup well, and the sound is great for what I do; people with more professional needs (i.e. making a living out of it) may prefer other monitors.

  25. Interesting... Maybe it's a flavour of The Orchestra/Elysion but with world instruments?
