Never got into the Dead for some reason....listened to the original for first time before listening to your version....original blew me away, then, listened to your version which also blew me away....your work on the song is excellent. Playing, vox, mix all hit the right notes????

Thanks Peter????

This collaboration came out great. Has a really nice sense of different musicians contributing different musical elements. You guys move from various tempos and styles effortlessly yet somehow manage to hold it all together perfectly. Nice chill outro????
-
Excellent from both creative and engineering perspectives. I think this is the best mix you've done so far. All instruments sound clear and really well balanced (maybe bring the bass up a dB or so). Sophisticated changes, relentless pacing, quick rhythmic shifts, stabbing melodies are all excellent elements to create the mood shifts and tension you mentioned. This must have been a huge job to mix but the results sound great. Reminds me of some of the Bowie/Eno tracks from Low and "Heroes" but with a harder edge????

Enjoyed that, relaxing, mellow and easy on the ears. Really nice guitar and sax work????

"Back in Time" Featuring Cole the VII. Something Very Different for Me.

Not bad at all at this point. Reminded me of Faith No More's ground breaking "Epic". Good stuff???? -
Thanks so much Nigel. Appreciate the kind words????
-
Agree with above observations????
-
Sounds better, I'd cut the verb back here and there, maybe a bit more polish here and there (get sound levels optimized, carve out some EQ on instruments for clarity) but really cool song, I dig it I can hear this on the radio easily????
-
Thanks so much. The piano timing is probably me trying to do syncopation on a piano roll????
-
Thanks Rik????

Nice ideas in that there noodle. The rhythm guitar is perfect but could be a bit clearer imho, overall I can hear this being a nice intro to more of a song????
-
ok, i think i fixed my ears/brain and redid the drums on this one....you guys are the best???? thanks! the link is in the original post or here: drums remixed version link: https://larryterrano.bandcamp.com/track/rambler-blues

Thanks Nigel. Yes, the drums are the culprit in this episode, lol! I'll try to get to work on them????
-
Thanks jack. The drums do require more work, I will try to get to it. You mean the harmonica?? It's me playing all of them. I used two, one in the key of D and one in the key of C as well as some delay in certain sections. Cheers????

Thanks Rik, appreciate the listen and comments very much. The drums are an issue in this piece. The drums are a loop from CbB SI Drums so they are playing correct time I hope. Are the issues you hear the kick drum mostly?? I was trying to get the kick drum to play a bit of melody by having 3 beats most places and 4 beats in a couple other. May be best just to keep them 2 beats per measure. What are you referring to by the pad sound? I didn't use a pad at all. The drums were the first instrument done and then I played an acoustic guitar guide track (not used in the finished version here) to it. Maybe i veered off the drum timing a bit as I always put the melody above the rhythm, so that could be happening as well. Lastly, I really hope I'm not "gradually going Phil Collins" (apologies to Bill Bruford ?) and losing my ability to keep correct time. Again, thanks for your time????

Excellent. Great song, instrument arrangements, vox, performances. The guitars totally work. The gradual, steady build up in the song sets up the guitar solo perfectly. Have to agree with Ross's comment about the backwards piano as the intro (homage to Yes's Roundabout??) Would love to hear this song on the radio????
-
Excellent. Really, really nice reimagining. Understated yet powerful. Great vox. Great arrangements/playing by all the instruments, lots of interesting rhythm section turns. I would love to hear this on the radio????
-
Overall really, really nice. The intro is pretty much state of the art sound wise. I think the entrance of the drums at 1:33 could use a wider/stereo drum mix to really open it up and get the listeners attention. The vox is good, the lyrics from Ecclesiastes 3 are universal truths????

Enjoyed very much. Well done????

Overall, the recording quality sounds great, very professional sounding????

Overall: great stuff. Nice vox, bass, synth work. A guitar or synth solo would have been a nice addition imho????
