Well done yes agree the mix is next to perfect what ever that might actually be? Lot's of cool details I like that.

I have an easy to follow set of tutorials that will quickly get you started.

That’s actually not a solution to the original problem because then Cakewalk would have been in mono as well. Very few audio interfaces must have that option. Sort of a handy thing if you want to proof a mix in mono. But you are correct that when this happens first place to look is any audio settings be it an interface control panel or in Windows sound settings. A quick visit to the speaker icon in the system tray.

Apple phones are a PITA as you cannot drag and drop media files, at least I never figured it out. You are forced to use iTunes. But, as we speak I just uploaded 22 songs to Sound Click an I’m listening using my iPhone and my crappy Bluetooth headphones, It’s the acid test for my music. This is the way the whole world will be listening. You can set the songs as no download and private so no danger of that BS happening. There is also an free app called Sono Bus that uses your network to send from your master bus in Cakewalk to any device that has the app installed. It’s a plug in in your DAW and a app on your phone. Brilliant. But I still go through the process of uploading because otherwise you have to sit in the studio and I’d rather be out on my deck or on the nice soft couch! I prefer Sound Click because it’s seems the only hosting site that allows you to update the song without the usual BS of deleting etc. I must have updated a bunch of songs 4 time already. I listen with a pen and notebook on my lap. Back to Cakewalk, make the changes, save as mix recall, export, top and tail in Wave Lab , batch convert to MP3 inGold Wave and update the file on Sound Click. I think I’m done but one more listen. I was uploading as wave files but it keeps screwing up so I return to mp3 320 kbps for now. Once I’m happy these will be deleted and all will be posted properly on DistroKid etc.

Mr. @Vyacheslav So you have had the use of a $500 pro DAW for a long time now and now things have changed. Nobody will really care about what you “want”. What you will get is the latest release of CbB absolutely free. Its a very simple concept. Free = Latest release of CbB. If that doesn’t suit you then go by an old copy ofCubase 5 off eBay. It will never need authorization.

After latest update, cannot view top tracks
John Vere replied to Harley Dear's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Please everyone don’t install the beta release unless you are willing to be a tester. I think they should not have put this version in the toast pop up. People are obviously installing it with out understand that it is a beta release and not a tested update. -
Lots of options. I actually find it much easier to simply play parts in real time as then in 3 minutes I’m done. Then it’s a simple matter of quantize and fix the velocity if necessary. Other options are create a one measure clip in Step sequencer and drag it out for whole song. But then you have to spend 20 minutes deleting and editing the clips to get what you want. You can also just record one measure and turn it into a groove clip. Same difference as the step sequencer. The slowest method would be drawing or copy pasting.

question regarding the new update coming up
John Vere replied to greg54's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Read the announcement in the early access release. The wording is that this will be the final release and you will need it installed if you want further activations down the road. I gleaned from that statement that you will therefore not be able to use older versions. Which is totally fine as why would you? Where as I agree with you and I am certainly one to carry on with older software sometimes the last few years have been the most stable and every update has been even more stable. Your choice will be. NoteSept 14, 2023. Update what I originally said here as since this post I have gathered more accurate information. Use Sonar 2017 or earlier. Purchase Sonar or Next. Change DAW. -
To the people who where in the middle of important projects who installed the early access version- why did you do that? Did you read the terms and what an early access version is about? It’s so long time users can test it and find bugs before the developers release it to the public That I’m afraid is you. So please don’t complain if you find what you think is a bug. Report it. That is what you agreed to do by installing it. Myself I’m also in the middle of an album and no way I’m putting that sucker on my main DAW machine. I’m testing it on a second computer and so far it’s actually very boring as there’s nothing really different in my world . This is really a maintenance release to fix accumulated bugs from 2022 forward . There’s no reason to install it other that helping the developers do there job.

After update have lost playback to speakers with midi tracks
John Vere replied to George McKeever's question in Q&A
You sure you watched my videos? I even have a complete tutorial on using the tts1 which also shows you how to select the correct bank that shows the names. Cakewalk takes a while to sort out and you are off o a good start by the sounds of it. It might take a few more views of each topic to really catch the small details like this. I can relate because I’m just learning how to use a new video editing software and I had to watch one series of 5 beginners videos 3 times so far and I’m still not there. -

Best thing you can do if you are new to Cakewalk is watch the tutorials which will most certainly explain what to do and how you use midi , audio etc. Here is the playlist. -
Funny nobody commented on this. Not that it's a concern as I have always used latest versions without issue. But It implies there will be further activation still require which is also just fine by me. Just going to download and fire it up,,, On my second machine of course. I think you might be able to save a Windows restore point to re turn to prior version?? No big deal either way.

Me too and I abandoned take lanes a long time ago for these sort of reasons. I have never even considered it for midi? All midi data is now in simple instrument tracks. There’s the odd time I will still use a midi track for a different octave part, like piano or synths, just in case I might want to send it to a different instrument. I handle all copy paste operations in track view for both audio and midi. It’s just a faster workflow for me. PVR is we’re I draw and edit.

I have 22 finished original songs ready for the world to hear. I’ve been using Sound Cloud and Sound Click to post and listen on my phone and Bluetooth headphones as part of the proofing process. They both offer some sort of fee based upgrades to get paid for ? downloads? streaming? I don’t really care if I get paid but it would certainly be nice if it is an easy option. I'm in the process of researching what is the best system of delivery these days? I’m way out of touch. Most of the bands at festivals I've hung out with seem to use Spotify And the other question is it necessary to properly register your songs these days? Here's the collection https://www.soundclick.com/artist/default.cfm?bandid=1420844&content=music

Questions on using DistroKid for uploading my friend's music for sale
John Vere replied to Robert Bone's topic in Songs
This is a timely post for me but I have my own questions so I best start a new thread as to not hijack But thanks for the video links. -
Using transients is sort of the older method that still can be used but drag and drop tempo extraction is much quicker when it works. And you do need Melodyne installed. I’ll add that once you extract a tempo map an additional step is required to line up the original audio to the grid. Turn on ripple edit. Now select all CTRL A. And drag whole song and line up the first down beat to 2nd or 3rd measure downbeat. Turn off Ripple edit. The whole song should now follow the metronome
-
Did you know you can drag the drum replacer track to a midi or instrument track? Then you undo the regional effect and carry on. You now have a midi track and can use better drum sounds to replace the audio. You can also Quantize it but leakage from other drum mikes often screws this up.

A Good Structure Question - Audiobook Narration
John Vere replied to CJ8073's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
But only the You Lean meter will analyze a whole file all at once in seconds. All other meters are in real time so you have to play a whole track/ song/movie/mp3 file to get your reading. Best $50 I ever spent. And under testing a bunch of meters they all seem equally accurate as far as LUFS and RMS go, but the You Lean has better peak detection. And you use it’s read out to book mark peaks. It leaves a red dot. This speeds up the task of manually removing peaks. Same with limiters I tested at least 10 and the Loud Max was the most accurate. It’s easy to test limiters and meters. Set the limiter at -1.0 and put a few loudness meters after the limiter in the bin. Start turning up the Gain and observe. -
Yes agreed as above good song Idea and structure but the music is totally out of time to the drums. Almost sounds like you added the drums later. If the original part was recorded without a metronome then drag the guitar ? track to the timeline to create a tempo map. Then you can use that to quantize the drums.

Yes for sure and I would say they are defiantly part of my sound. My son has had the honor of playing Bass for Jim Cuddy a few times. I'm a long time Country Rocker at heart. Jimmy Ranken is another person I try to emulate in my recordings. I have never really featured a keyboard in my songs but over time my playing has improved. To the point that I was asked to play keyboard live in a band over last winter so was really getting into it. Once again this leads to me going over all 36 of my songs and redoing the keyboard parts which where sort of mostly lame. My Cakewalk Band which is on almost every song includes the DB 33, Lounge Lizard, True Pianos and my new toys are Glassy and Sweetcase. I'm a huge Wurly/Rhodes fan. I still have Model T on a few songs but it's 32 bit so it makes me nervous. I have it frozen. Good to here that the song is translating to other systems well. That's a huge project of mine that's taken a lot of time to achieve. I'm not sure what You Tube does but it's a down side of releasing music on that format is you sort of loose control, just like MP3 uploads. When I'm, done I will share my workflow in a tutorial.

any new soft synth i create gets routed as a midi track
John Vere replied to Zack Neil's topic in Instruments & Effects
Figured so. I'm possibly the only person who likes it and uses it. And yes I have a couple of project templates I use but those don't have any tracks. Just my buses. I add audio tracks either using a track template or the add track which as I said can choose which interface input I'm using and the bus. And like for vocals I tell it to insert 3 tracks which is another weirdness of mine as I hate take lanes so I use 3 tracks instead.- 12 replies

John Vere replied to Zack Neil's topic in Instruments & Effects
I stopped using that method a few years ago I use the Add Track Dialogue. I find it odd that no one seems to be using the Add Track dialogue and still use the old method. Everything is there. All the options. And a huge improvement is choosing input and outputs all at once. Between that and Replace Synth I rarely use the options in the browser. I hope they clean that all up in the new version. Do we really need 10 ways to insert an instrument?- 12 replies
