I have used 2 totally different interfaces together to record live bands but as said you have to try the different audio driver modes. Problem is a lot of older devices don’t support WASAPI. So I use WDM mode. Then you use ASIO back in the studio to edit and produce the finished songs. A tip to save trouble is make sure you get this all set up and tested at home. Make a project template and set up all the inputs and name tracks. Get as much prep done as you can. But always have the 2 interfaces powered up before you open Cakewalk then stay in that driver mode and then load the project or you will have to redo all the inputs again.

Installing Cakewalk by Bandlab from stored files
John Vere replied to norfolkmastering's question in Q&A
I think it’s pretty clear what will happen. Down the road CbB will time out and you’ll open it and be greeted by a toast message telling you you are in demo mode and so you won’t be able to save your work. It will probably direct you to the web site to purchase Sonar. Myself I will most likely have purchased Sonar before that happens. But over this winter I have plans to make all my important projects future proof. Make a sub folder and export all audio as stems both raw and processed. Then save each project as a Midi file. A midi file for me represents the majority of my hard work. And they can be opened in most other DAWS. -
@noynekker I’m pretty stoked about using these old drum tracks. Drum replacer works especially well with these stems from Bandlab. The drum stems are stripped down to a basic kit. It actually helps. I sure hope it is included with Sonar. But I’ve already separated most of my old songs. I agree about programmed drums. I’ve been doing it since 1985 I even have a digital drum kit . They are not adding much to the song in the same way real drums played by a top notch drummer can do. Thats why I’m stoked about this little winter project. Thanks everyone for your feedback. Much appreciated .

SOLVED: Sample rate conflict between my audio interface and windows10
John Vere replied to Wojtek Stecyszyn's question in Q&A
The folder . and it’s safe as most of us have done this at least once. If your nervous about the Reg editing app there’s a way to back it up. I don’t personally think it’s necessary. And if for some weird reason you want the diver back it’s easy to reinstall it I think it’s available on the web site- 16 replies

Thanks, While you were listening I just updated it. I changed the Dim Pro for Ultra Analog synth. I keep forgetting about it. It responded perfectly to the mod wheel too. I added a higher part to the last solo. I also added a little filler using Glassy a digital piano VST. It's got sounds that cut through a mix nicley. Ya the vocals will be next I've had a dry cough all week so waiting for that to go away. @Bajan Blue what do you think of the Saw tooth now? I think it's cutting through better.
-
Thanks everyone. Ya the Saw tooth is Dim Pro, I just bought a new Computer and I have been hesitant to load up all 500 or so of my freebies. A lot of those are very cool emulations of analog synths which is about all I'm interested in. I just remembered the Poly 800 , that will have a good old sawtooth. Stay tuned.

It’s almost always that the Master bus outputs get changed especially when you mess with driver modes. My guess is it will say None. Best to open console view and check there. You can also drag the hardware bus strips into view if you look for the divider on the far right of console view.
-
@Alan Bachman Yes and no. The Bandlab separation tool only gives you 4 tracks. Bass, Vocals, Drums and then Other. The other track is just that, everything but the first 3 tracks. But I noticed on a web page for another separation app that it shows a piano track as well. I’m pretty sure it’s one of the screen shots in my video.

Installing Cakewalk by Bandlab from stored files
John Vere replied to norfolkmastering's question in Q&A
You simply save the file that will be in your download folder called Cakewalk. It’s always available at the web site too. Just download and stash it away. The sad thing I just thought of is probably people will crack it. At least being free had that issue addressed. -
SOLVED: Sample rate conflict between my audio interface and windows10
John Vere replied to Wojtek Stecyszyn's question in Q&A
You don’t uninstall the Realtek driver. you need it or the onboard system won’t work. You only are removing the ASIO driver in the Reg Edit app. Some people do completely remove the on board audio system driver because if you always have an interface connected then you don’t really need it. But this is not really necessary. It’s just that some installs of the Realtek Audio driver also includes an ASIO driver. Not all do. I’ve only seen it show up on 1 of my computers. I don’t think it’s part of the Windows update type generic driver so it must come when you use the original drivers supplied by them.- 16 replies

Just about any Wave Editor can convert all audio formats. If the Flac files show as 4kb then there’s no audio. That’s just header info. If they are fine otherwise you can try dragging them from the browser into the project. I’m pretty sure Cakewalk takes Flac files that way.
-
You need to realize a lot of those devices don’t support WASAPI mode. You might see them if you switch to MME mode which is a terrible driver so don’t even go there. This is why an audio interface is unavoidable for recording audio with Cakewalk. You waisted money on a bunch of incompatible devices that rarely work with Cakewalk. If your audio interface doesn’t have enough inputs and outputs then you waisted money on that by not purchasing one that does. USB mikes are for Podcasts. They are useless for home studio purposes. No XLR.

Installing Cakewalk by Bandlab from stored files
John Vere replied to norfolkmastering's question in Q&A
It kinda sucks that this is true. But they have finished using Cakewalk as a development tool and making it free forever would be a very bad business decision. It would remove the majority of potential customers for Sonar. They are going to be facing enough issues as it is. They obviously have been loosing users since the announcement in June. Go read the Coffee house threads all about the switch to Studio 1. And even Creative Sauce Mike jumped ship which is bad because he has a huge following of “free Cakewalk “ fans. It might have been wiser to have kept quiet about Sonar until next Year when it will actually be ready. They could have just e mailed regular forum members to easily find willing testers who could be trusted to keep it under wraps. -
SOLVED: Sample rate conflict between my audio interface and windows10
John Vere replied to Wojtek Stecyszyn's question in Q&A
But what you are not understanding is the Realtek ASIO driver is invasive to Cakewalk and contaminates the Audio set up. You do not need the Realtek ASIO driver to use your on board audio system. It will work perfectly fine using windows audio driver. I thought that was made clear in the video but maybe it isn’t clear enough. With my laptop I mostly only use the Realtek audio system for my live shows both playing backing tracks and using Cakewalk as a VST host for playing keyboards in a band I’m in. There is no Realtek ASIO driver installed. I’ll use the Same laptop with an interface from time to time. I have 4 computers that I switch to on board sound from time to time and none of them have that driver installed. Staff at Cakewalk even warned people to remove the ASIO driver in Reg Edit. It seems the only way to remove any invasive ASIO drivers. Like Magix, Steinberg and Fl studio I think is another.- 16 replies

https://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=14701231 Demo so far for me to proof and decide what else it needs. Defiantly the vocals have a few glitches I don't like. But I posted this because this is a result of using Next to stem separate an old master for 1996 and use the Drums and bass to create the midi tracks. I'm pretty pleased to have the drum track turn out as good as it did. It sounds pretty close to the original performance by a drummer who was a huge part of my studio life back then Mike Nothcott. Mike would bring his little kid Joey over when he was 4 years old and Joey would play a simple drum beat standing up at the kit. It was a gas. Joe is now a session drummer in Vancouver working full time as a pro drummer. Dad Mike works at the sawmill here. He is still the most amazing drummer I've ever worked with. He's totally up there at the top. But he never went pro. Just bar bands. Its a shame. But at least the sawmill has a pension plan. A cool thing for me is this song is my first recording using my brand New Epiphone L 00 guitar. I actually used my stupid SM 7B because it's PU system is a typical Fishman that always suck. I'm going to replace it with a K&K system. I double tracked it. I added a SAW patch synth using DIM pro. If anybody has a better sounding one I'm not liking the way this one sits in the mix. It needs more BUZZZ. Have you ever watched Animusic? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rGCTLJDoMGw That' s the synth I want.

I agree you need to kill some useless process. Have you run latency monitor by Resplendent? And video will kill you machine if you don’t have a capable video card. I just upgraded and what a difference in editing and rendering. Your other specs are very good. Another thing I learned was the more cores you have and they need to be used not idle. There’s lots of stuff can cause issues and they won’t show in task manager all the time

In the video I very briefly show the way to delete it is using the Reg Edit app. You will find it under ASIO. Sorry it very quick in the video but if you pause it there you’ll see it’s somewhere near the end.- 16 replies

Using the beta of Next I spent a bunch of time working in 44.1 on a test computer and did about 30 of my old songs from the masters. These are all from the 8 track days and so I don’t have the multi track recording anymore. Most worth while was lifting the excellent drum tracks played by an amazing drummer. I already took one song and used drum replacer etc. very cool to rebuild the old songs like this. So with very little fuss I now have a midi bass and drum backing track for my own song. Tools used : Next for stems Cakewalk to: Drag drums to timeline for tempo map Drum replacer and ARA to convert audio to midi Kick snare and random fills Bass audio to midi via ARA. Quantize to 1/16 th Was easy to add missing drum parts using both controller and drawing missing Tom’s and cymbals. 90%! Cloned and sounds better than the 8 track cassette recorder.

I actually followed scook advice and just Google the questions and you will get the correct page or be brought right here where theres an ongoing topic. The index is like 10 page’s long. I wonder what happened to Steve ? Been MIA since September 6. Look that one up too.

The problem is the OP attitude that things should just work the way you think they should work and not bother to learn the very basic things that everyone had to learn to start recording with any DAW. There’s are literally hundreds of tutorials on Cakewalk now and every one of those series starts with stuff like this. Or ya read the manual but I don’t blame people for not wanting to do that as it overwhelmingly huge. I saw this post first and right away saw that it was as simple as what it was. The clue was the example of the virtual keyboard not working too. There’s only a few reasons that would happen. But I sort of try and keep quiet once someone else is helping because too many helpers gets confusing. And actually my normal reply would have been to post a link to the midi tutorials. It’s much faster than re writing the manual for folks ?
-
Yep just look in the manual. That is if you can find anything in the 1,954 pages. Man it was easy to find stuff in the Next manual only 258 pages! I wonder how many pages they will have to add to the new Sonar manual?

We’ve been black listed. I’m probably a waist of time anyway because I haven’t found a bug in Cakewalk for probably 5 years So doubt I’d find anything wrong with Sonar. I was messing with Sonar Home Studio yesterday and the audio engine kept stopping. This just proves to me how far we’ve come since 2016. We forget those days and how you just block out what it was like. I don’t see how people can still be using those versions? I’m happy that I won’t ever have to go back there. Note that Home Studio was a lot more stable than Splat back then because it is so simple. I bought it for that reason. I was going to use it for live performance.

Cakewalk/ Sonar in my experience always defaults to ASIO if you have the drivers installed and the interface connected and working before you install Cakewalk/Sonar. I have re done my old DAW machine with new hard drives and a fresh install of Windows 10. ( it was free) I haven’t done much with it yet I had installed the Next beta and that’s all. No 3rd party plugs etc. I gave up on Next and all of a sudden got this idea about Sonar Home Studio. So I installed it and that was one of the things I noticed was my Motu M4 was all set up and ready to go. The wave profile gizmo is really a hold over from the nasty old days of not having good drivers.

That’s funny because that the part I actually don’t use. I set all faders at unity. I use the Gain/ instruments outputs and compressors to set target levels. Only faders that are not at unity are automated tracks. But I like to use the console view for mixing because it feels better. More like you actually at a mixing board.
