Pending new releases and existing issues. RESOLVED
John Vere replied to Chris Ward's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
I always have had respect for Steinberg but the point is if they don’t update the windows driver then it can be a factor in the buffer issues. Definitely my experience. Same projects same computer Motu M4 has to be at 520 or there’s crackles. Tascam is 1641 runs at 256 Scarlett 6i6 at 256 Zoom L8 at 128 Soundcraft signature 10 520 Behringer xair 16. 256. So in my experience drivers are very important and Mac oriented company’s like Motu seem to fare worse. -

Latency Monitor : Green = good Red = bad. I’ve never gone beyond that point because since W7 I’ve never seen Red. I think I mentioned that running the Samsung Magician was a good starting point in my first or second reply. Reading some of this I see lots of red flags. Especially plug ins that are known to chew a giant hole in your resources. Doesn’t hurt to try a different audio interface. I just watched a review video about interfaces and he put the Steinbergs low on the list due to pour quality pre amps. But would assume they have good drivers. I just tossed a Motu because of the driver. -
Funny I opened Facebook yesterday and I belong to a half dozen Cakewalk/ Sonar groups. There was at least 6 posts about Activation and “Help we are all going to die” sort of thing. Then 90 % of the answers were wrong and basically it would seem very few people are in the loop. Please people get over it and get back to work recording and enjoy CbB as it is. And which we have just been told by staff AGAIN that there’s no plans to kill it with out plenty of warning. My guess as someone who has been following progress closely, is this is still a LONG way off. Cakewalk by Bandlab is free and part of your user agreement you checked when you installed it was it will require activation from time to time. There’s no actual time limit it was just randomly about 6 months. The difference is for the last few years it happened every time you installed an update. So most of us didn’t notice anything. There’s no update now so people are seeing the activation message possibly for the first time. What’s the big deal. Takes 10 seconds. You just need to be logged in to your account and it automatically will happen. Go to the help menu if it doesn’t and do it from there.

Freeze, copy paste the parts you want to another track, unfreeze.

Looks like an interesting free VST. First thing comes to mind is if you are setting up different channels and patches for each instrument. It says it’s multi timbral so it will work with channels. Normally it is best to OPEN a midi file in Cakewalk so you don’t loose important data. If you have nothing selected in the Midi devices output it will automatically load the TTS-1 and play the file properly if it was GM midi file. But each instrument needs to have channels as well as bank and patch assignments. The TTS 1 set up should be similar so watch this video to check out how it works

Cool. Literally. Beautiful spot you have there. I live in BC Canada and normally I could post a similar picture of my back yard but it’s been a warm 0 degrees C. All winter here. The coldest it got was-6. So we haven’t had more than a few snowfalls that melt in a few days. It wasn’t a White Christmas. No cross country skiing so far. But winter is the best time to write songs. Apparently my ancestors were from your area when I did the DNA test thing. Anyway nice to connect with you. Now go record another song and I’ll watch for it

The Ghosts of War - new arrangement with a female singer
John Vere replied to Busker Pete's topic in Songs
But that is also something to consider when proofing a mix. I have a little mono Bluetooth speaker I use for the worst case scenario listen. And the bass and kick are one thing it will reveal is not exactly perfect. That and my cell phones speakers. I try and always wear my Bluetooth headphones when listening here on the song forum. They are a bit bass heavy but I’ve “ learned “ them. I just had to listen again with my morning coffee, wonderful, just wonderful as LW would have said. -
When you say you’re from the North I’m assuming you’re a fellow Canadian. We share a love of a style of music. You made that song work with only 3 instruments. The bass is what really makes it. Don’t touch it. I really didn’t notice anything I’d call conflicting. It’s sort of a live music vibe that way. Are you planning on doing live shows? There’s become a bigger demand for what you are doing as people get bored with computer stuff.

Really liked this a lot everything sounds great to my old ears. Did you add the bass after that person commented about it I most certainly hear an acoustic bass -
Late to the party but this is definitely in the can. I guess I’m just a fan!

Love that harmony at 1:45. Excellent sound scape. And yes that wind works. Great vocals as always.

Now I see why you tagged me in a thread from 2022. My experience is exactly same as @msmcleod I have a Godin and the GR50 which tracks really well live. Only downside is you are stuck with the GR50 sounds which is limited. I even have a bunch of expansion cards but it’s very clunky to navigate the menus. Connection using the midi results in about 15- 20 ms of latency so it’s useless for live triggers of anything else. Most definitely much easier to just use Melodyne of which I just upgraded to the Studio version to get full chords. It’s still far from perfect but the results are much less editing than midi input from the GR50. I’ve never set up the individual channels before but that might be fun to try . It might make less of a mess in PRV. But it’s really hard to Quantize material that is that far off . Especially when the low notes are delayed by almost 3x what the hi notes are. Another good reason to practice your keyboard chops.

Outdated info.

An interesting side note to this is that they added the off line activation to Cakewalk Next back in early December. Let’s face it CbB is more or less abandon ware and not really supported anymore.

True story- I recently built a new computer and I put two 1 TB M2 drives in it. One for OS the other is the “Working” drive. I then removed the two 500 GB data drives from the retired machine. These had all my Cakewalk etc data so it made transition easier. But meanwhile the old computer I was keeping it as my backup and it was fully loaded with everything from the last 12 years and all my software licenses etc. I was constantly using it to sort stuff as I slowly got the new machine up and running with my software and plug ins. I found I needed certain things to be located exactly where they had been on the old computer in the new one or Cakewalk would even crash sometimes. I got everything working and I thought I’d put some recycled SSD drives in the old computer to replace the two I had removed. One old drive was labeled “OS Acer laptop “. I put it in the retirement computer which is a HP pavilion from about 2010. I opened my computer and found a “G” drive which when opened showed as loaded with an OS and a typical list of folders. Fine, I’ll just Format it. When the format was completed the computer shuts down? When I re booted it it all looks wrong? It was the Acer laptops desktop??? This should not be even possible! So as a result I had completely nuked the OS from the HP and it was now running happily on an OS from a completely wrong computer system. So long and short of it is be very very careful when recycling old OS drives between different computers!!! Good news is the HP was long overdue for a fresh install and now has a brand new SSD and OS. but I lost all things related to Cakewalk. So far I only have Next and Sonar Home Studio installed. I am waiting for Sonar to be released.

The thing was W11 pro was actually cheaper @ $75 than W10 pro @ $85. Can An OS is an OS they are kinda boring to me. I tend to ignore them and disable 90% of the junk they offer for the punters. I really never have noticed anything different about using any of my software be it W7, W8.5 W10 and now W11. It just looks different. Big deal. And they hid a few things etc but after a few days I found them by using the search option. Not sure what part of the system is better but performance has definitely improved 100 fold. I’m good for another 10 years. I’d say building your own computer has become much easier than it was in W7 days. I’m a pretty novice tech and it was all a matter of just reading the instructions. About the only thing that sucks is randomly some Air products tell me they are not activated even though they are and open in most projects. You can forget trying to contact them they suck. To bad I definitely depend on DB33 and Xpand2.

[Glitch?] Process > Apply Effect > Gain - Not Working??
John Vere replied to sjoens's topic in Feedback Loop
Now is the time to upgrade They do it every year at this time. Each of my upgrades was from the free version that came with Sonar Platinum. It’s always $99. So I’m into it for $300( $400?) now and have Studio.
