First thing I would try is to disconnect the keyboard from midi cable and play it as a stand alone instrument and see if there’s any stuck notes. if it doesn’t generate its own sound you could run the midi cable to the other keyboard. Troubleshooting is a process of elimination. You change out each device in the signal path until the issue goes away. It could be the keyboard as it is old. It could be a midi cable or connection. It could be the midi sport or its driver. It could be a loop back through Cakewalk. Which is another test Disconnect the midi cable from the midi input of the keyboard and use a VST instrument to play sound

You could have stayed in the original thread and just answered my questions. But anyhow I now see you have answered two you are using Cakewalk and the VS 100 is an old Cakewalk mixer/ audio interface with midi ports. In the video he mentioned it has drivers for windows and Mac, interesting. But are the drivers able to run on Windows 10? I sort of doubt it. 2009 was a long time ago and Windows Vista etc. So that might be why you have no midi now. Cakewalk is Sonar and very advanced. It is also absolutely free and only requirement to use it is to create a Bandlab account. To use the Behringer simply install the drivers and then select ASIO mode and make sure the Behringer is selected in all audio preferences locations. In the MIdi preferences make sure the Behringer is also selected as input and if you use outboard synths as the output. I’m making a video about levels. Right off the top I would say probably your VST backing tracks are going to be louder if your vocals are only- 12. But what my video is about is peak level only tells you part of the story. It’s actually the loudness LUFS or RMS that tell the truth.

All I have to do is turn off one interface and turn the other on. Now if it's my Scarlett or Tascam I can even do this with Cakewalk running, But for my Motu I have to close Cakewalk and re open or it doesn't grab the driver. So obviously depends on the ASIO driver involved. This is why I like my interfaces to have on off switches.

Best place to look is Sweetwater or Musicians Friend. You don’t have to buy from them but they have most brands and reviews you can read. For streaming from your Daw you want a loop back option which many of the new models have now I bought a Motu M4 which has this feature and it’s been great for screen capture from Cakewalk. it doesn’t have 4 XLR but has line inputs on the back I feed with a 6 channel mixer. I also really like all Focusrite products. They not only use good quality drivers but they come with the most free goodies of anyone else.

The real tech ASIO driver is known to cause issues as it is of low quality and buggy. Use WASAPI shared or exclusive mode with on board audio.

There are a lot of tutorials on this subject in the Tutorial sub forum. If your about to abandon Cakewalk just because you didn't take the time to learn how it works that's pretty sad.

I'm not sure what you are saying. When you say you upgraded to Bandlab, do you mean the Bandlab App or Cakewalk. Huge difference. And what the heck is VS 100? I have no clue. is it software or hardware, Google gives me a dozen things that it could be. If you are using Cakewalk and a Behringer interface you need to follow the instructions supplied with the interface. It's very simple. If you're still stuck, visit the Tutorial sub forum here and watch the appropriate videos on basic set up.

Doesn't matter, every computer is different, generally Laptops come with problematic BIOS due to battery management systems. Desktops are generally better. Just google optimizing a PC for Audio. It mostly involves getting rid of apps that cause DPC latency issues. But! did you run the Latency Monitor? This will tell you what those apps are. We're telling you what is the standard first step in trouble shooting. The ball is in your court.

This is good to know, I was unaware that the limit was tied to how you inserted it. So what your saying is if we use the "insert other media" option the quota is avoided as apposed to dragging an image to the choose image box. You're not alone- I have Xpand and all of the Air products. They are top quality-- but I always have issues getting them to work. It's the buggy installer. During install did it give you options of pathways? What happens with me is it doesn't put things where you tell it too. So the sample library gets orphaned which is probably what's happening to you. As it is I just looked and my Samples are in an Air Music Technology folder in Program Files (x86) a location I would never use as I don't install 32 bit software as a rule. The Xpand dll. is in my Steinberg VST folder under Program Files. I could not get it to store the library to my G drive where I normally put all libraries. Every time I re build my system it's only all my Air products that take way too much time to deal with. But I do use them and need them so am willing to take the abuse. As said above try re installing and pay close attention to all pathways.

If that was the video about on board audio then it’s not about using an outboard audio interface. Following those instructions would not have helped nor would your on board audio settings have any influence over your interface. It has its own ASIO drivers and it own settings. Clear instructions come with all audio interfaces. There’s probably a video about it too.

I run 16 tracks of audio loaded with effects, and 5 VST instruments on a 2008 Sony laptop with 4 GB ram. But it does have a SSD drive that is only 1/2 full. Make sure you have room on your HD.

This is why it’s a good idea to go look in the register as scook has pointed out. He had pointed this out to me a few months ago and sure enough I had the real tech ASIO driver there so I deleted it. Therefore no issues. If you have any Steinberg software you need to go there and make sure you don’t have that driver as well. Not sure if it is installed with their interfaces. Nope only thing it keeps track of is the recent projects What I do is use the search function to scan all my files. Often the missing song ended up in a weird folder because I was drunk or something similar

I switch between my Focusrite ASIO interface and my Real tech on board audio all the time. Never have issues what so ever. I think there just might be a dozen or more different versions if not more which is why the different experiences. The ticket is to not use ASIO when using the Realtech driver. WASAPI mode gives me performance that is more or less identical to the performance I get with Focusrite ASIO drivers. I just don't do any recording in that mode. But playback and editing work perfectly fine.

It's a 32 bit plug in which if ever there are issues with Cakewalk are the first things I'd be looking at. Cakewalk is 100% 64 bit because software moves forward. Cakewalk staff no longer are expected to bother troubleshooting 32 bit plug in issues. If it was a 64 bit plug in they would be all over it. The best solution is to purchase the inexpensive upgrade which is 64 bit.

I'm not sure what you did because you claim to have opened a Bun file and then saved it as a Wrk??? file. Wrk files are like from 30 years ago. CWP ( normal) files. have been the standard for a long time now. I have stuff that is 15 + years old and has been all over the place as a CWP and it always opens. Bun files are OK but not what you use for day to day saving of your projects.

It seems what you are doing is using a combination of VST instruments ( SI drums) and a outboard midi hardware device ( Roland ) The timing issue might be something in the midi routing to the keyboard. There are a lot of things that might cause this, but without more details I would only be speculating. My recommendation would be to actually forget using the Roland as a sound device for now until you get a handle on using midi and VST instruments. Using a outboard devices is a bit more advanced in a way. There are as you discovered very good sounds to be found just in the free stuff that comes with Cakewalk. ANd there are 100's of great free or almost free VST instruments available. Sound fonts are very old school and not widely used anymore. It is the Sample based instruments like SI drums and Bass that are popular. Life is very easy when you use VST instruments and effects with Cakewalk. Nothing wrong with outboard gear, but most of us only will us those if the generate a one of a kind sound that was important for a song. Most of the sounds in a Roland keyboard have been easily outdone by VST's. The TTS-1 is based on Roland GM sounds.

I sounds like you already have X2 installed. So when you install CbB it should ask you if you want to use the settings from a prior version. I don't understand when you say it messed with your X2 settings. There are both totally separate programs and that shouldn't happen. Scook has covered the questions about included VST's. Be aware that Melodyne is just a 1 month free trial to use as a regional effect but it will still work for drag and drop audio to midi and tempo extraction. The bug fixes alone since X2 is a huge reason to update. Plus a lot of new features. The actual user interface has not really changed much other than we now use Workspaces to save our set ups. As far as audio interfaces go there are a lot of them and no point recommending unless we know what you need. Here's my list of things to look for when comparing interfaces. Shopping for an Audio Interface? There is a lot of choices. Make a list of your requirements first.. What kind of connectivity do you require? and how many of each. This is the most important determining factor. Most of us only need a few in/outs. It’s nice to not have to unplug and plug stuff in. It’s false economy to short change yourself on this feature. You end up having to purchase a mixer as example. These are some of the options: XLR, 1/4", Combi jacks, RCA, ¼” line level, ¼” Instrument level ,MIDI, SPDIF, ADAT,MADI How many ins and outs do you think you'll need now and in the future? Are they accessible? Front or rear panel? Are all ¼” jacks Balanced? Some have RCA jacks in Parallel with main outputs. Is there a true stereo input pair? Some don’t have a matched set of inputs which sucks for recording stereo devices like outboard synths and drum machines. Are there peak level meters or just a little LED for each input? Do all inputs have a peak indicator? Are there channel Insert jacks? Are there separate controls for Monitor level and headphone level? Is there a blend control for mixing Input Source with Computer ( DAW) ? A lot of cheaper interfaces are missing this important feature and only have a on/off toggle. How many Headphone jacks? A level for each? This is also important if you work with other musicians. Are the input pads or line / Instrument toggle switches on the front, back or software controlled? Is it a metal box or cheap plastic? Is it light and portable or large and bulky, Rack mountable? Does it have an on / off switch? Does it use Buss power or a power supply? Buss power can have issues with noise and Phantom power and some need a dedicated USB 3 buss. Look for at least an optional power supply. Does it have DSP effects built in? Does it use a GUI mixer? Having a software (GUI) mixer adds more options. Can it be used as stand alone? Some interfaces are also handy as a small mixer. Does it have a Loop back function. This is a newer feature that is real important if you do live steaming or screen captures. If wish to record any playback from outside your DAW. Like using a stand alone VST. What are the Round Trip Latency (RTL) specs? Do you really need low RTL for real time processing? Low RTL is going to be at a higher price point. A $ 100- $600 interface will have hidden buffers etc. Zero Latency monitoring is not the same as RTL. All interfaces have some latency. Zero latency is just marketing hype for monitoring directly from the interface. And most important of all, Does it have top notch ASIO drivers for your OS. What is the word on support from the company? Visit the web site and try creating an Account before you purchase. Pretend you just bought the device and visit their web site. See if the drivers and manuals are easy to get at and kept up to date. Does it come with free software, Example Focusrite interfaces seem to come with a lot of good stuff. This has added value to the purchase price. Everyone will recommend the interface they have chosen, that doesn't mean it is the right one for you. Make your list starting with the input /output specs. Example you determine you need a 4x4 interface. That just narrowed down the search by a lot! You might find only 10 models. Now compare those to get the most features needed. Use a site like Sweetwater to check pricing. But shop around and if possible buy from a local store where you can return it if it doesn't work out.

When i got my Motu M4 and saw it had loop back I figured it was something that I would never use. But now I see why this feature has become popular. Lots of folks doing live streaming and stuff.
