What would be helpful then is a screen shot of the Preferences/ Audio/Device list in ASIO mode. As far as I can see in Asio4all you seems to have way more inputs than that device actually has. According the videos and looking at the device it has 4 XLR, 2 Combi and then the 2 built in mikes for a total of 8 inputs. So this make perfect sense as the device is called an 8 track recorder. ASIO4all seems to think there are 12. So this must be either typical asio4all mistake or those represent 12 tracks, not inputs. This is why I I mentioned this in the first post. I have a hunch this is a Zoom ASIO driver issue if not all the inputs show in Cakewalk but without the screen shot I am only speculating. Cakewalk can only show what the driver presents. Zoom has a reputation for not supplying stellar ASIO drivers. FYI, asio4all is not an ASIO driver, it is actually a wrapper for WDM mode and because we now have WASAPI modes in W10, asio4all is not recommended as it's performance is sub par to WASAPI. Your tracks will most likely have syncing issues. If there is an ASIO driver, use it.. if it's not working properly, contact the manufacture and demand an update that repairs any issues. Zoom makes awesome stuff, I have a few products and so do people I know. But the audio interface part has never been solid.

Agreed with what Steve just said. I always change the pathway for Cakewalk projects to the root of my data drive. Because I have a few different "album" folder there I prefer to then just navigate to the next level manually. If I'm working on a certain album i will take the time to then change the pathway to that folder to save time. Real easy to do. The desktop is a messy way to store things. It's just like never putting stuff in the filing cabinets. Windows purposefully used office work environment terminology for a reason.

Funny how you noticed that as well. It might even explain why they didn’t include WASAPI exclusive support for the drivers.

You posted while I was replying so did not see that. Your overthinking this. Everything to do with each project should be in a folder as I said above. If you have data spread all around your C drive then best way is to open each project and use “Save as “ and point that at the new drive. Make sure to check the copy audio box. This will creat a folder on the new drive with everything for that project in it. Before you delete the original files open the save as version on a different computer to test.

Same here. I often record remote sessions on my laptop and transfer to a external drive then to my main computer. I actually have 3 computers I might use The laptop and 2 desktops. This also serves as a backup system. All I do is make a container folder for the “album “ of songs. Each song “project “ is in its own folder inside the container folder. Drag and drop the album folder to wherever At any given time I will have at least 4 copies of this folder which I always date. Ive never in the ?16 years I’ve worked this way lost a project or had any issues opening them on any other machine. Of course there might be a missing weird plug in but that’s rare for me. I’ve only ever used CWP files. In the old days we called it per project folders. What find now is it is critical to check the copy all audio with project box when using Save as

First minimize the pro channel fly out. Your not supposed to open that unless your making changes. Then if you hover the mouse in the right spot near the bottom a menu will open where you can choose narrow strips. Narrow strips can be used for tracks that don’t need much attention to detail. I leave as many as I can full size. With that menu you can also hide strips

I have a Motu M4. My only gripe has been I needed to purchase a dedicated USB 3 pci card to make it work. It is buss powered. I see the Ultralite has a power supply so that is good. The driver has one weird issue which normally shouldn't matter, but it doesn't support WASAPI Exclusive. Otherwise of course you always use ASIO. Other than that I think Motu is a good brand.

The reason that happens is audio tracks don't need all the stuff midi does. So the extra strip for a midi track is much needed. Great job as always and I 100% agree with how many people never take the time to explore all of Cakewalks hidden gems. It was only a year ago that I started to find all those little toggles and I immediately changed from using my typical menu system to the icons. But you got me curious about using input quantize. You demo had me thinking it only would keep the 1/8 notes and delete the 16th. No, it work the same as the normal quantize feature, it actually moves the 16th notes to the 1/8 note position. The result is you will have 2 or more notes on top of each other. They are hidden underneath. This can actually result in a silent note with some synths.

It would be a good idea to actually read the user manual. The ASIO Driver will show you the available live inputs. Don’t get that mixed up with tracks. The tracks get transferred once recorded to the device, not live. Do you see 12 inputs? No. You should totally remove asio4all from your computer. Always use the ASIO driver when supplied

I think you need to rethink your work flow. When you say “doesn’t everyone work this way? “ Well, no. Experience taught us to just bypass the effects while tracking. End of story. Only exception would be guitar sims. Best to do those very early in the game. I have not had any issues when tracking if all I have going on is pro channel stuff. Because I’m using direct monitoring, just like bitflipper latency is not an issue for me. Latency is more of a issue when I try and add new midi tracks later on. So I just hit the bypass button The type of effects that causes the most added latency are most always mastering effects. Nobody should be mastering while they track. Ya we all sort of start a raw mix as we roll along but that’s mixing not mastering. There is a toggle for “bypass effects of this type “ might sort of work for you. I’ve never tried it.

I think it’s a demo version and would have expired. So possibly it can’t be re installed using the same account once it expires. I you did purchase a licence for Melodyne 5 then you go directly to the Celemony website and download directly from there

Cakwalk changes midi sound after recording
John Vere replied to Tobias Landmann's topic in Instruments & Effects
Actually the velocity was real low as well. Looked like about 40 to me. And your screen shot didn't include the thing I was looking for the MIdi channel and Patch boxes. That is were you set any changes. Or you can set those to NONE and use the GUI to set patches. -

Soundcraft 22mtk not getting signal into Cakewalk
John Vere replied to Luke Wells's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Did you not read the very first solution ? the OP needed to switch to the proper ASIO driver. You’re using WASAPI which not all devices support.- 35 replies

I often give very short answers in this QA sub forum because just like this thread as an example , 1 post OP So why waste time typing out long answers unless you know they are actually going to be engaging with the topic. I do a lot of remote recording and swap projects between computer all the time. I also use external hard drives to transfer projects. They always work for me. You have choices. Some are easier than others.

If this was true this forum would have thousands of posts. Obviously it’s only certain plug ins some of you are using that are misbehaving. You need to find them and then report this to Cakewalk so they can sort it out. And hopefully all involved in this thread are using ASIO audio interfaces and have optimized things properly

It won’t touch your VST folder or any 3rd party folders. But the stuff that comes free with Cakewalk is inside the Cakewalk folders so probably removes that. You will loose any 3 rd party VSTs that got installed to there as well. That’s why it’s a good idea not to use that folder for none Cakewalk stuff Just copy that folder to outside of Cakewalk folder Or better to re install them and make sure to choose a none Cakewalk folder this time

For a faster more precise answer you need to supply details of how your using your audio set up. Otherwise I can only guess what your doing wrong here. You either use an audio interface or you use on board sound. It's not clear which one your using. You don't use both at the same time. Have you watched the getting started tutorials yet? Cakewalk is complicated and it is recommended you spend some time watching some videos and learning before you just jump in with both feet and start stumbling around. We have a Tutorials sub forum here. What is your audio interface? Are you using ASIO? Did you follow the instructions for getting it to work?

There's a term for people who actually would do that but it eludes me at the moment. I'm just a little bit that way with certain things, the synth rack is not one of them. I only open it to check on what I'm using and in some cases will use it to delete certain synths. Normally I use "replace".
-
Yes that's actually a bad idea as one of the posters pointed out. Under many set ups your whole VST instrument world will be a mess. So the answer at this point in time is as my good friend @Bristol_Jonesey said- No you can't. Or to elaborate, no you can't without deleting them and re inserting which may work for some, but it certainly wouldn't work for many. If it bugs you then do like I do. I always stack my midi instruments in the same order and therefore I insert them in that same order. The synth rack is usually the same for me that way,

I just love threads that the OP never responded to and they go on and on.

Question. Why the huge C drive? My studio machine has 2 x 240GB SSD drives and 2 other 7200 drives that I think are 1TB each. My C drive is at 60% and I have a lot of software installed. A lot. I don’t store any data but some VST’s have snuck in there but they are working so I haven’t moved them. If anything I would upgrade my Second SSD drive to a 500 GB so I could put samples on it. But I never have issues with samples being on the 7200 spinners as those get loaded into RAM Other things I find important when building for a studio is quite fans including a good quality power supply. Some power supplies don’t have extra cables needed for those extra drives. And accessible USB ports. Buss powered interfaces like my Motu M4 require a dedicated USB 3 port. I had to buy a PCIe card.

LAPTOP TOO SMALL FOR CAKEWALK TO TRAVEL!
John Vere replied to Paul Montgomery's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Not an expert on the topic as I have always kept everything but samples on my C drive. I have a laptop I use for remote recording with a full install of Cakewalk and it’s add ins. I don’t have much else on it stored and that C drive is at 75 GB. So even a 128 will set you up with the bare necessities. For external storage I do believe all you need to do is have the drive connected during the install of the 3rd party stuff and change the pathway. Then include those paths in Cakewalk plug in scanner. This part I’m not sure about but you may need the external drive connected when running Cakewalk so the plug in scanner doesn’t hang up. -
Once again this week I say this same thing? Try this instead. It was made for live performance, Cakewalk is a recording sequencer. https://www.cantabilesoftware.com/
