Glen just tried the 2 available dialogue boxes . That was a good way to trouble shoot. The old dialogue box opens via Insert menu -Soft synth which has nothing to do with the browser, it is also then from the synth rack as well d drag and drop from browser or if you double click on a synth in the browser. So 2 ways that are not browser related 2 that are. The new dialogue box opens with the + symbol add track option and also when you click in a blank place on the track pane and choose insert instrument. They are just different both seems to give same results. I'm not sure why they kept the old dialogue when they created the new one. Not sure what you did to get 256 tracks... I get what I always get, which is the outputs tracks the VST is said to support and if I enter that number in the bottom. If an instrument only supports 1 stereo output and you enter 2 you'll end up with 2 instances of that synth.

Your experiencing a sample rate miss match. Make sure you know what sample rate the export was and set your Windows sound settings the same. Or use a better player like Audacity

Thanks for letting us know that you found the solution. That helps others in the future.

Waveform shows spikes during silence - depending on zoom level
John Vere replied to Jürgen B's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
What I’d do just to make sure is open the audio in a wave editor. The big question is Cakewalk sometimes hiding details or is it being inaccurate in drawing the image. -
I don't use loops but I sometimes will grab one from the browser to test things when I need a quick audio or midi clip. I noticed the peak meters often are clipping. So I opened the You lean loudness meter and started dragging files from the " Backing Tracks" folder. Every single one of them is mastered too loud and clips and has nasty overs. Some were over +1.0 and the LUFS are real loud at -10 or so. So for those of you who do use loops these are most likely all distorted so be warned. This is the Dark String loop. Look at all those red marks at the top of the graph- those are overs. And most others where the same.

No input signal from audio interface

I used to use the markers. But ya, last time I abused the arrangement track into showing the cords in living colours

Sounds good. Workspace is a time saver. Whenever you have a screen set up you use just save it. Easy. And it worthwhile to print off or even just write down the common shortcut list. I’m more of a mouse person I guess cause I started on an Atari

Recording Orchestral Pedal Harp -mic placement
John Vere replied to Michael Fogarty's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
I’ve never recorded that instrument but I’ve had my share of noisy instruments. It becomes a compromise between wanting ambient sound and close in mike technique. To bad you don’t have a giant collection of mikes. That’s what it usually involves. Trying as many mikes and types of mikes until you get a good sound but with as little of the noise as possible. The mike placement becomes a lot trickier. I would put all my mikes on it and record as many tracks as possible and then solo and pick the best. You might need to blend 6 tracks to achieve a nice sound I would also make sure to record just that noise so you can use that as a tool when you go to edit -
No input signal from audio interface
John Vere replied to mikemakesmusic's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
This might be the 3rd person with this interface having issues. The advice has always been “Make sure you purchase an audio interface that comes with proper ASIO drivers that are up to date for your operating system “. You actually have just bought an overpriced adapter box. A small mixer would have done the same. I would send it back or give it to a friend with a Mac. -
How to tame vocal "I" and "E" sounds?
John Vere replied to user390096's topic in Instruments & Effects
Back away from the mike when singing those phrases -
@Craig AndertonI should have been more clear and as you know I was referring to Gibson not the staff. They of course had nothing to do with that decision To me the staff are the heroes

How is your interface volume knob set?
John Vere replied to Anders Madsen's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
What I find a bit hilarious is YouTube Tutorials teaching audio and the level is real quiet. There are standards for internet video that are not that much different than MP3 files. So I always aim for -1.0 db true peak and around 14 LUFS. -
So why not study the documentation and tutorials and once you do understand it you will have no more issues. First solution I will offer is to open a Basic Project Template, Now choose the Advanced Workspace. Your screen should look like my screen shot unless you over wrote the Advanced workspace somehow. You should see the multi dock tab "Console" as in my screenshot. Now go to Views and add the Piano roll or what every other tabs you need. When you add these the multi dock should pop up 1/3 screen with the new tab open. Pressing the "D " key will open and close the multidock to what ever tab you have highlighted. You can also click once on a tab to open 1/3 screen. If you want it full screen double click the tab. Double Click again it will be 1/3 screen. Hit D and it will close. Or click the double down arrows bottom right. This is all you need to know if your using one monitor. Simple and easy to see what you want with a keyboard shortcut or the mouse. The tabs are always there. But where it can go haywire ( i think this is your case) is when you float the multi dock and it can be lost possibly hiding behind the main view or if you use 2 monitors it might be over there. There are lots of options and if you take the time to explore the workspace it all makes perfect sense eventually. I learned all of this by simply exploring the workspace and a few shortcut tips from the documentation shortcut list. If you do use 2 monitors drag the multidock to the second monitor, open it full screen and make sure you save this as your workspace. It will always be there from then on. If you don't always want it on that monitor then make sure you have a workspace saved that it is back on the bottom of your main screen.

audio files getting out of sync sometimes.
John Vere replied to Arka Banerjee's topic in Feedback Loop
If you use on board audio you can expect syncing issues. This is why ASIO audio interfaces are important for hassle free recording. If you do a loop back test using WASAPI mode you will find the overdubbed track late by around 20 ms. -
loudnessmeter Big Loudness Meter Request
John Vere replied to BAARISH KI DHUN (Pisi Bhaipo)'s topic in Feedback Loop
I now use the Youlean loudness meter, float it, and it lives mostly on my second monitor. And I actually don’t look at the meters on plug ins or Cakewalk’s. I look at the peak level read out. That stays at max until you reset. That way I can easily spot a track that is misbehaving. Peak level and actual perceived level are two different things. So a peak meter is only a ballpark solution to mixing. Meters that give you LUFS are more useful to me. -
How is your interface volume knob set?
John Vere replied to Anders Madsen's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
I’m at 2 o clock on the interface which I don’t touch and because my NSM10 are passive I have a small Class D Amp sitting between them right in front of me so I adjust my listening level there. It’s generally around 1o clock but lower if I’m just editing. I turn it right down before shutting down. I wouldn’t want monitoring that has level control on the back. My office computer has powered Mackie’s and the level is on the front. But if you’re saying internet playback is WAY louder than your daw then you must be recording a pretty low level. For me there’s little difference between Cakewalk and watching a video on both computers. And the office computer is mostly using on board audio. I make sure most systems sound is off or set real low. -
Funny you say loyalty and support for the people who brought you Command Center. They are the ones who dropped off the map with out warning. We are just plain lucky that Bandlab keeps those servers running. But you should have all that stuff backed up. 10 times. You don’t need the server if you have all the installers and serials for most of the VST’s. And I don’t need the server for x3. The last of the good old system that doesn’t need the internet

Sort of doubt it as that is a device that has roots in Windows 98/ 2000 and Xp all 32 bit. Your best bet would be to run Windows XP 32 bit under a dual boot system. If you still have a Xp install disk kicking around. A lot of us keep older systems running just to use otherwise obsolete gear. I have XP just to use my Printer that prints directly to printable CD’s. I have W7 just to use some video stuff and a few other apps.

HOW to disable the track meter volume keeping only GAIN?
John Vere replied to Marcello's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
it is as bitflpper said. Go find the signal chain diagram if you need proof -
Well the web site is not very helpful about info but I will surmise by the complexity of this interface that it will for sure come with a software mixer. This is we’re you need to sort this out. With 32 channels and built in processing it will have a steep learning curve. This is not a Cakewalk issue. This is a matter of studying the user manual or watching the manufacturer supplied videos
-
Yes I went thought this issue a while ago after I re built my system. I had installed everything using CCC and then noticed I was missing the old versions which looked different. I like those versions so had to sort it out and they were part of X3 for me.

Did you shut everything off and re start with the cable plugged in to the same USB port it was in before? is this a ASIO interface?
