  1. Obviously a good topic to cover if Google can’t find it. I’ll keep it in mind. I’ve never used Cakewalk for videos I use Vegas. But I think you can import a video and then use Cakewalk to score the soundtrack. The video needs to be a certain format. You don’t edit the video in Cakewalk just the audio. But Vegas can have multiple audio tracks as well as it uses most of my VST effects. So it depends on what you’re trying to do
  2. You don’t mention what audio interfaces you’re using. ASIO drivers do make a difference and not all are the same and not all play nice on all systems. You should never have to go above 256 for simple projects. But There’s a zillion things can be wrong and as said Latency Monitor is a good place to start. Ignore the generic warning it always tosses at you. I think it must be a default. And it never applied to my computers. They also have another app called WhySoSlow. It also helped me figure some stuff out. Here’s my list of things to watch. 1. Use nothing but SSD drives for OS and Project files and don’t go past 60% capacity 2. don’t start adding effects if you’re still recording tracks. Wait until mixing to go crazy 3. Open Task manager and see what’s going on. 4.Kill stupid apps that need to die! 5. Pay attention to certain plug ins that might zap your system. 6. Don’t expect outdated drivers and audio interfaces to perform properly on a updated Windows system. 7. You can never have too much Memory
  3. @msmcleod Have you ever tried the Beta? It’s very close to the SM58 but with this nice crispy sound. It’s not as muddy as the SM. I have 4 SM 58’s and 4 SM 57 for live sound. Must be 30 years old now and all in great shape. I keep wind socks on them. But they’ve all been dropped and abused many times. That’s why I use them. I don’t let anyone else use the Beta.
  4. Your answer made me laugh because i remember an event at our local auditorium and the lady next to me was struggling with a video camera. She ask me if I knew anything and I immediately pointed to a 12 year old boy on the other side of her. In 10 seconds he had it working. Truth ?
  5. Welcome back. Make sure to bring everything up to date including Cakewalk and your audio interface drivers. Lot can change in 5 years. Actually did we even have CbB then? I think It was December 2017 that Gibson dropped the bomb on us.
  6. If you read the thread nobody gave me a serious answer. I don’t understand why?
  7. I’ve tried a zillion mikes in my lifetime and what I’ve also learned is there is the perfect mike for each person just like the perfect spouse or partner. And they are just as allusive to find. I finally found the love of my life. My wife when I was 17 and my Shure Beta 58 when I was about 50. I learned that I can’t use a LDC I’m too noisy. I snort and breathe and grunt. To many year screaming into underpowered PA systems with no monitoring.
  8. I just accidentally hit the button that takes you to the last page here and the very first post. I found this thread that I started and the whole gang checked in. A moment in Cakewalk history and we were there. I forgot I was the very first person to start a thread. Check out the date too. I guess we had the old forum for a whole year. So 4 years and still improving. The ultimate Zombie thread. Can’t get older than this one.
  9. I still don’t understand the issue so sorry but I myself find it very fast to switch views using the tabs. And I guess I can’t think of a reason I would need more than one view open at any given time. Might be different if you have reasons to need multi views open but for that I agree with @Mark MoreThan-Shaw I have always wanted a 3rd monitor to keep plugins open. I would mount it above
  10. I missed the bit about the pre amp. Normally you run a mike pre amp into a line level input. Otherwise you are still using the Focusrite mike pre amp. So it defeats the reason for using a different pre amp. And as Mr Dickens pointed out inputs show as Left 1 = input 1 Right 1 = input 2 Stereo 1 = is when you use both and will create a stereo track in cakewalk so you don’t use that unless your inputting a stereo device. But your interface line inputs are properly on the back.
  11. I think even staff recommends not using bundles but windows zip file instead.
  12. It’s a bad idea to use input echo on an audio track. You use your audio interface direct monitoring system not Cakewalk. Otherwise you will hear the round trip latency of your system. This will result in a delay depending on your system set up. For me with my Motu M4 at 256 buffer the delay is 18 ms. If I lower the buffer I get audio issues. I think the input echo myth comes from using on board audio were you have no choice. I know Focusrite came out with a new software mixer but with the original there was a reset to default settings that I often used when the stupid thing acted up. I still have no clue how it works and I’m glad I don’t really need to.
  13. True but people do search for topics and this thread still works if you were looking for a free reverb. I’ll toss in my go to free verb Acon Audio Verberate https://www.pluginboutique.com/categories/17-Reverb?free=true
  14. Yes the pay to upgrade is fairly common on uploads for music sites. Like the limits on Sound Cloud and Click etc. And then there’s always the “hey what did they do to my perfect master?” After they render it to mush. Yes bandwidth is probably a bigger factor than storage. Mind you how many of you are aware of what’s happening with bit coin? My son is an electrician and his company is working overtime to build these huge power supplies used to house bit coin mining computers. He says they use massive amounts of power and bandwidth. Talk about an un environmentally friendly project. These mining boxes are using as much power as a huge factory would. And who knows what this does to local bandwidth. All for what? So maybe Bandlab needs the bandwidth for bit coin ?
  15. There’s always 10 ways to accomplish anything in Cakewalk.
  16. Not sure I follow the issue? I use a second monitor. I undocked the multi dock and put it full screen on the second monitor. I can easily change tabs to any view. If I create a regional effect and add Melodyne it pops up on the second monitor in the multi dock. Possibly you are leaving the multi dock on your primary monitor and individually floating each view?
  17. Good info. That might explain my experience. Prior to making tutorials I always just used advanced. I generally paid no attention to them. I prefer to just customize my view on the fly. I also found screen sets to be way too much of a bother. And I see a lot of long time users saying they use Workspace “none”. And for long time users this probably works fine. But possibly not for a new user. I have a laptop I use for typing out my narrative with an up to date version of Cakewalk installed. I purposely don’t have any older versions of Sonar so I can experience what a new user will have. Only a few free plug ins are added. I also haven’t customized it and I use it in ways I never use my other 2 computers that have Cakewalk and all the goodies installed. On that machine “none” is like the default Basic workspace. Randy will probably be fine with none because it will load up from that file you are mentioning. But in their wisdom to make a new users experience “ simple “ they have set the default to Basic Workspace. This in my opinion was a mistake. Therefore we get all these threads about missing feature. Try it ! load a Basic workspace and see how far you get in your day before having to switch back to Advanced . Probably 10 minutes! It’s like you buy a new car and it only has a steering wheel and a gear shift . Everything else is hidden and only way to find your features are to either read the whole manual or ask a question on a forum . The manufacturer claims it’s so your not distracted while driving .
  18. Actually I prefer using Advanced as that includes all possible features and controls I’m not dead sure none looks the same on every set up.
  19. I have the M4. It is a Mac Centric company as I found out. But it most certainly works with the ASIO driver and CbB. I log 1,000 of hours on it mostly with out issues. It is not as great as I was expecting and was not really the upgrade from my 1st gen Focusrite 6i6 I was thinking I would get. I have to run at a higher buffer which is 2 notches above what the 6i6 can run at on the exact same project. I also had to buy a PCIe USB 3 card because it’s buss powered. The other complaint I have is it hates sharing the driver with other apps. Never have that issue with Focusrite. I have to totally re boot to get Audio back when it goes south. I would switch back to the Focusrite but it doesn’t have loop back and ya I hate having to use the software mixer just to balance cue mixing of input and playback. The M4 has what all interfaces should have A blend control right on the front. Oh well. It’s never a smooth ride when it comes to Windows and Audio.
  20. It’s one thing I like about movie studios registration system. Super straight forward. They give you a simple serial number which is good for 2 installs. Simply uninstall the software from a computer and the license shows as available on your account page. Also just like the old Sonar your account page shows all your Magix products and serials. This includes the older versions if you update. I updated from 14 to 17 for I think $50. Now I have 4 licenses. 2 for 14 and 2 for 17. I installed 14 on my 12 year old grandsons computer no problem. Try that with Cubase!
  21. You can narrow down the search for nasty plug ins. 1st For sure anything 32 bit. 2nd Freebies that are not commonly used by other users. 3rd Waves? seems a lot of threads about this possibly been fixed? 4th Isotope also a few threads about these.
  22. This is correct. They are constantly fixing bugs and it does make it harder to troubleshoot because first step is making sure you’re using the latest version. As far as not liking new features? I can’t think of anything that changed in my workspace at all for a long time. only the new Export dialogue which has been a huge improvement. They even fixed one little item a few of us reported within a week! You most certainly don’t need to use any particular feature. What bugs you? Maybe we can offer a solution.
