  1. What happens if you disable input echo
  2. It should look like my screenshot in ASIO mode. This is what It looks like in WASAPI shared or WDM modes Therefore why I think @Jeremy Oakes might be right. Looks like your not in ASIO mode. But still, even so you should still have mono input options unless the Soundcraft driver is not working properly. Checking the show Mono outputs doesn't change anything for any of my interfaces but who knows, might work.
  3. Problem I have with these tests, and he admits to this over and over, he makes mistakes in how he was making tests and taking measurements so this tells me the results are probably inaccurate. Also this seems to be using Macs so probably why Cakewalk is not on the lists. Besides, this is sort of data gathering is like saying 96hz sounds better than 48hz. Does the average person really care? Sure it's good to know if your DAW is screwing up your sound, would I change to another DAW if I found out mine is performing at .01 % less quality than another?? nope.
  4. My first thoughts too. Turn off snap and make sure Ripple edit is also disabled Place the now time at the split Hold down Alt key and use the scroll wheel to zoom in. Select the tracks on the right and drag them to the precise spot. Just a quick question. Have you thought about just recording directly into Cakewalk using the x32.? It can do this easily. All you need is a real basic laptop. The one I use is a 2008 Sony with duo 2.3 hz and 4 GB of RAM. It now has a 250 GB ssd drive but I have recorded lots of gigs on the original drive too. It doesn’t take much to record live audio. I have about 20 gigs I’m someday going to edit they are recorded as sets around 1 hour each. I just transferred them to my main daw for editing. Here’s the first one I finished editing, I grabbed a bunch of band photos and even a videos of us playing different songs. https://youtu.be/gaJLIgix32s 300 songs to go?
  5. My point is Cakewalk is an Awesome DAW and definitely is flexible about how you can use it. But if you are working with stereo or mono audio files a Wave Editor will have much better tools and workflow. Of course this is only once you’ve become accustomed to using it. Learning about the tools and the short cut keys etc. As far as the arranger feature you’re needing, most wave editors have markers you can name just like Cakewalk. Not that familiar with Audacity. I have it installed but I use WaveLab, for almost 20 years.
  6. This is why I recommend you export the track and make the edits in a wave editor. Then you can bring it back in to Cakewalk or simply using the Wave editor save each clip as a named file to use as you please. Done zillions of this stuff. Radio adds come to mind.
  7. So I tried Steve's idea and for my issue it was successful. The Audio folder changed the name of the original which was Watchtower, to Dooods the new name I used with Save as, "copy all audio with project" AND "Create one file per clip" enabled. It also added more from the tracks name, nice. But the Clip name still remained the same? That's certainly easier than my idea if you can live with clip names being different. For me that's not an issue as I rarely pay attention to all the gibberish that seems prevalent in naming clips.
  8. Thanks for the comments, much appriciated. I repete, this is a work in progress as part of a tutorial series. and at this point there are no effects. This is on purpose. Well, I did add a touch of EQ to the bass and the drums to queit you all down about that. This is a rough mix. My faders are all at unity other than I did lower this latest track where I've added Harmony for video # 7. I've also added a mystery instrument which will be part of video 8. It's mixed in lower. But all the rest is flat. Here is the latest MIX with these very small changes made. Here is Video 207- https://youtu.be/vOq_dDnnGZg
  9. No this is actually a problem I have had when transfering audio between projects. Say you speed up a version of a song. It's even more important for people who might use loops and short clips. I can see the reasoning behind having it the way it is because the audio clip will aways retain it's original name which might even help sort out which was which in complicated projects that have seen a lot of versions. This is why SAVE AS is a great tool to sort this out by cleaning out the audio folder of junk no longer referenced. But having that audio named for a version of a song would be an asset if you all of a sudden wanted a track back. Be easy to use search to find it.
  10. I just to make sure I wasn't wrong tested SAVE AS and put it in a completly different location. Audio is copied as you would expect because the box was checked. From the documentation Copy all audio with project (Project saves only) When selected, this check box creates a copy of every audio file your project references, regardless of where they are located, and stores them in a folder called Audio Data. The Audio Data folder is created in the folder where you save your project. For example, if you save your project to the following folder: C:\My Project Your project’s audio is saved in the following folder: C:\My Project\Audio Data
  11. Nope, just tried that, Files are still the same, and I do beleieve that is incorrect about save as. It does not reference the audio it copies it to the new location. It actually only copies the audio that is relevent to the currant version of the project. We always tell floks to use SAVE AS to clean up projects. But you need to put it in a new project folder. It possibly references if you save under a new name inside the original folder. In the screen shot original project was Watchtower. You'll also see the audio I dragged from a different project ( yellow ) and then the bounced version below as I was testing. This is the new re named ( dogsbreath) I saves as copy to new location.
  12. I found a solution. Before you do anything back the original project up out of harms way. First I tried drag and drop from original audio folder to new project, nope, same name. Then tried re-naming from within Cakewalk, nope, error message. Then tried bounce to track but new export dialogue just copies the name and adds bounced to it. No option to name. But scratching my head, and not to be defeated, I figured this out. The hardest part is prepairing the original audio for transfer to the new project. First prepare the audio in original by bouncing any audio tracks that are in fragments to create all continuious tracks that start at Zero. You can replace the original fragmented tracks by deleting all the clips and drag the bounced continuious version to the original location to maintain routing and effects etc. Perform the "save as" to create a whole new project folder and check copy audio box. In Explorer open the original projects audio folder and now re name the files any way you want. This version of the project will now be junked. f you don't want to loose the original project you will need to make a safty copy too. If it was just a Template then no loss. Now open the new project and open the old projects audio folder in the browser, Delete the audio with wrong name and replace with the new re named versions by dragging them from the browser. If you want you can now perform another save as to get rid of the wrong named files. Delete all the left behind stuff once your dead sure it's all working.
  13. I understand exactly what you’re saying. This is it, To find orphaned tracks later on it’s nice if they use the correct project title. This is why it’s important to name a project before you record new material. It’s also important to name the track clearly too. It often happens when you start with templates. You end up with “ no name” audio files until you save the project. And naming a track After you record it doesn’t change the files name. So this is a good question- How do you safely change the name of audio files to match the new project? I’ll have to try this later today, but I’m guessing you might have to delete the audio and drag it to the new project? Im pretty sure re naming in Explorer won’t work.
  14. Great explanation of why looks can count. And if you saw my studio you’re sure enough going to see a big mess of wires, old gear and not to pretty instruments. I actually just switched over to using the start screen last summer. I always had it shut off but turned it back on for making tutorials. Cakewalk’s default of the screen shot icon sort of works brilliantly for me in narrowing down the search for a project. Like my “16 Track template “ shows 16 uncoloured tracks. That looks entirely different than full projects that are very colourful. And I’m grateful to those who make new themes. I would never take the time to figure that out as my DAW time is limited. I just loaded up one made by Mr Cook. A simple one with soft green highlights , perfect.
  15. ? Not sure why you would need the step sequencer to create a hi hat and crash pattern. Most would just draw the notes in the PVR or actually play them and record them using a Controller or the Virtual Keyboard. Or drag a MIdi loop of a pattern to a amidi track, The step sequencer takes a bit more knowledge to master. One should not have deadlines for creating with tools they have yet to master?
  16. I often wonder how many users spend more time getting Cakewalk to look wonderful than actually recording music?
  17. The OP said they have reverb on a bunch of tracks? This is a well documented way to create a muddy mix. Reverb is space. Having a bunch of different spaces in a mix totally confuses the listener unless that is your goal. Best practices is to limit how many reverbs are used in a project and share one instance using a effect send to a reverb buss. Of course this general advice is for most popular types of music and not applicable to all. I’m only mentioning this as newbie’s might get the idea it’s normal to put a different reverb on each track. The pro channel has made it way to easy to make this mistake.
  18. This is an example of a song I used this technique with. It’s on the run down in each verse where I hold a long note. Then at the very end of the song. https://soundcloud.app.goo.gl/GS1mdfwq2h3ozPvM8 The other part I forgot to mention is the echo track gets a lot more reverb. You could even automate it to increase as the repeat fades away This just gave me an idea for a future video ?
  19. I had this similar challenge once and just couldn’t get the exact timing I wanted. So my solution was to create 2 new tracks below the original. Each was panned hard left and right. Then I would drag copy the phrase I wanted and paste to the new tracks a few times as needed. I placed them precisely were I wanted using the grid for timing. I then used clip gain envelopes to fade each away and with differences between left and right tracks to create a subtle ping pong. In the end it was much faster than trying to figure it out with a delay plug in.
  20. As I said this is at the tracking stage still so no effects. And normally I use a very tiny bit of delay set with tempo. Did some background vocals today and Melodyne the krat out of them b
  21. Two tricks I’m using a lot since I found them are: Short cut F- all tracks fit to screen. Auto track zoom - found in the view menu of track pane. Sort of works like holding Ctrl but only the mouse pointer is needed. It’s a bit buggy for some reason and sometimes you get variable results. And it doesn’t have a shortcut to toggle.
  22. Works fine for me. The only part different is you have to print an effect output to a track. This is exactly the same for anything that is not ITB like hardware synths.
  23. UPDATED Mix # 5 January 28 2022 Thought I'd post this here and I'll add the mixes as I progress. This is where this song is at as I follow through in my Tutorial on " How to record an Original Song" https://youtu.be/KNqxWGE2ZJw Updated Jan 25, This is at the point where I have added harmonies and a little more filler. Still no effects. Updated Jan 26 2022. I am close to finishing. Added a supprise part to the Hook.
  24. Not sure if you tried this but I often have used my Lexicon mx200 hardware for reverb and I use outputs 3/4 of my interface as the output from a buss I set up and then simply bring it back in to Cakewalk using input 3/4 and record it to a track. The tracks I want the effect on use a standard effects send to the 3/4 output buss. Once the “wet” track is recorded you just mix it in. It’s a terribly stupid set up but it works. Not worth it unless you have a particular effect that cannot be duplicated by a plug in.
  25. Good news, and congradulations for fixing it in a logical way. There is a thread here were the OP has the exact same issue with an outdated Midi interface and seems that person is going down a twisted pathway. Instead of doing the logical solution, like you did, they have spent since last April fighting a loosing battle trying to get the old driver working. 3 pages with some excellent help by a staff memeber and still not working, my my.
