Holly cow I wasn’t just imagining this. I’ve been converting a whole bunch of older 44.1 projects to 48. I even made a tutorial on the method which is to use the export and the Tracks. Preset. I’ve had the odd re imported track clipping now I know why. Will keep tabs on this and I guess I’ll have to re make the tutorial if things change.

record is broken when using MIDI metronome
John Vere replied to David Thiel's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Ya of course but it’s pretty rare anybody else is using hardware these days and it can get complicated to set up. But hardware is a great way to feed a drummer a click track with out it being part of the DAW audio output for live performances. I had never used the midi metronome mostly because I rarely used the metronome as I usually start with a simple drum track. But to make the tutorial I dug in a little deeper and that’s when I figured out you need the Wavetable synth checked in midi outputs for it to work.Something I uncheck 24 years ago! But then you won’t hear the wavetable synth with out somehow sending its output to your monitors so it’s a bit too convoluted for newbies -
record is broken when using MIDI metronome
John Vere replied to David Thiel's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
The Midi metronome uses the MS Wavetable midi which sucks. There's nothing wrong with the Audio metronome so use it. 17-Exporting the Metronome https://youtu.be/f44mdLdmlBE -
The very first tutorial in this series shows you how to properly set up your audio system for Cakewalk, I think it might help
-
You need to watch a few tutorials because it sounds like you haven't grasped the basics of how Midi or Cakewalk works.

I think you just pointed something out that I was too stupid to realize but now I do. When I saw that Airplane mode down in the network icon in the bottom taskbar I thought, Oh, this is quicker than opening network settings and disabling my LAN and the Wireless. I now realize it probably only disables the wireless network and not the LAN, will check this out tomorrow, I already shut down for the day. My other computers don't have wireless, only LAN. That would explain the lack of the Airplane mode. Duh!

I have very similar specs on a Laptop and it is just fine with my projects which are usually 10 to 14 tracks and a mix of midi and audio. But I'm not a heavy user of unnecessary effects. You could have 50 audio tracks running on your PC without an issue,, but change that to 10 VST instruments and dozens of effects on every track and that would probably kill it dead. If your planning on recording audio, like guitar and vocals then you will also need to invest in an Audio Interface. Here's my Cakewalk Tutorials that cover everything you need to know to get started, have fun.

Yes the new dialog needs a bit more work. The way it totally forgets what you set up and you have tp start all over again just to then forget something important ( like Mono) and screw up the export. It would be nice if it stayed exactly like you set it for each project. Sure you can save pre sets but I'd end up with 2 pages of them if I did that.

Yes don't underestimate the value of the add ons. Focusrite seems to have a good little package that it includes. I scored Addictive Keys for free. The Motu only came with Performer lite which is about as useful to me as ***** on a bull. @rsinger My issues might just be my computer is 12 years old, but I still find it odd that my old interfaces work better on the same machine. But I use the M4 mostly because I rely on the Loopback to be able to record screen captures and stay in ASIO mode with Cakewalk. My set up is very basic these days but making videos has got me now 100% on 48hz. I convert all my old projects to 48 right away before I continue working. The M4 seems happier these days since the last driver update. But that distorted audio is an unsolved mystery. And I put my computer in Airplane mode unless I need the internet. It's an odd feature that my other computers don't have.

By default Cakewalk signal flow is top to bottom on the channel strips. The pro channel is at the top and as said the design is like the way we used insert sends on analog mixing desks. I still have a bunch of those cables I used for compressors and eq. So like the others have mentioned I use it that same way I used insert effects and mostly the gloss EQ.

SINE player doesn't play MIDI song
John Vere replied to Örjan Widegren's topic in Instruments & Effects
In your screen shot I see 5 identical midi tracks? Are you just trying different sounds? What’s also odd is you have a mix of instruments including drums? Is this midi track multi channel? -
Just curious. Do you have any of the symptoms I listed above? I assume it’s the driver as neither my Scarlett or my Tascam cause any of these issues
-
I have the M4 and I use it daily with only a few issues that I wrote off as being what you can expect from a Mac focused company. The driver is not even as stable as my 1st generation Focusrite Scarlett 6i6. First the 6i6 runs smoothly at 128 buffer. The M4 needs 256. The 6i6 never makes popping noises. TheM4 always pops when I change focus on apps. I run everything at 48 to avoid this but it still happens. If I work all day in Sony Vegas and open Cakewalk the audio recording is garbled. Reboot the interface doesn’t help. I have to re boot the computer. I had to buy a $40 USB 3 PCI card to resolve other issues with it because it’s bus powered. I just watched a video and this guy tested 15 cheap interfaces and your interface was his top pick because of build quality and features. He didn’t mention driver but he was of course using a Mac. I should have bought the Scarlett 8i6. But I do like the Motu meters.

See that's why I think any thread over 4-6 months old should be automatically frozen to keep cr4p like this from happening all the time.

It should be illegal to sell that interface to Cakewalk users. You're possibly the 10th person I've read about that has issues. Rule #1. Make sure the interface comes with a proper ASIO driver. The Generic drivers will often work fine with other software and no problem on a Mac so 100's of happy users, but Cakewalk is a bit more fussy and is heavily entrenched in the Windows system. You want a great interface, check out the PreSonus Audio Box USB 96. I just watched a video where this guy tested about 15 cheaper interfaces and this was his top pick for the price as it had all the right stuff.

If you use the Add Track + You can set the default input and choose the output bus as well. Only bummer is this setting is lost when you close the project. It would my feature request to make the settings in the Add Track dialogue saved with projects or Workspace
-
You always set the master bus as the outputs for all track and busses. It is normally set as the default when using any supplied templates. Your screen shot looks like you must have made your own project and bus A would have normally been the master.
-
There's something not right about the dialog boxes in your screen shot- I see a "Output 1+ " where it should show Master? Not that that that should mater but you never know. Only time I've seen that is when a Midi track has nowhere to go but never seen it on an Instrument track. -Midi Set up

You should watch some tutorials. Mine are numbered in order of what you need to learn first.

What's the best way to import a reference track?
John Vere replied to Michael Finnity's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
You could use a MP3 file you download as they will at least represent a good portion of what your trying to achieve. There are lots of sites that offer music in the Flac format which should be much better quality and the same as a CD, or so they say. It really depends on what your goal is for using the track. Just a quick listen? or deep analyzing using measurement tools? This would determine how high a quality was required. Myself I actually use my own songs. I have songs I think were as close to perfection as I will ever get. So if my other songs don't sound as good I go back to that one and figure out what it was that worked. There's a different approach to mixing a whole collection of songs than just focusing on one. -
Those dots are a valuable tool for showing you that there’s audio or midi data further along in a track.
-
You can also get the demo version of Addictive Drums and Keys which never times out. It’s only a basic kit and no toms. But it’s much more advanced than SI drums and between the 2 you have lots of options. https://www.xlnaudio.com/ Just create an account and install the manager software. Sign up for e mail and you can watch for deals on upgrades and kit pieces. I just realized that maybe you didn’t download and install SI drums yet? They are well worth trying out and they are included with Cakewalk. But it’s in the add ins as a separate download
