Sound Blaster is a bad word around here! If you still have issues run Latency Monitor and sort out optimizing your laptop. https://www.resplendence.com/latencymon

I have no experience with modern PCIe cards so the wrong person to ask. It would sure be worth looking into. Go read the reviews. I think that USB has become just as fast as other connections and the main reason PCI cards died was there's a chance of RF interference when placing audio circuits inside a PC. Is this the one you mean? https://www.rme-audio.de/hdspe-aio-pro.html Way out of my league. Seems you would need a $4,000 console to go with this.

Sonar 8.5 Producer: Is There a 64-Bit Version of PerfectSpace?
John Vere replied to Annabelle's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Just so you folks are aware The OP is visually impaired so relies on software that only runs on W7. Therefore staying with 8.5. A good choice. So keep that in mind when even posting links. Another great free reverb is made by Acon digital called Verberate Basic. https://plugins4free.com/plugin/3409/ Can you post a screenshot of Latency Monitor results? I find shutting off the internet solved most issues. I just unplug the cable because for me it’s easy to reach -
First you should upgrade your audio interface. If it’s drivers are no longer supported then that might be your issue right now. It’s a shame that PCI audio interfaces faded away. I have one made in 2004 by Card Deluxe that still runs , the driver was last updated in 2015 for W10. How’s that for support! But it only works in my old DAW which still had a PCI slot. RME is definitely the way to go if you have the cash. I made a video about how to look for interfaces

I thought it was clear as I said "Each Project" not global, yet that would be my second choice because I more or less always use the same setting. I'm talking about the Project name, Not stems. I do re name stems sometimes. My projects always have the date, Example " Name of Song 2-4-22" . I then have to re name all my exported songs properly. It use to use the name you entered in the Notes section in the browser, but they broke this with the new dialogue. A few people have complained. This is the problem, I don't work at 44.1 anymore every setting on my computer is 48. but it's always defaulting to 44.1. All I'm asking is that the settings are saved "Per Project" I spend more time re setting the export dialogue than I do editing a track!

Sonar 8.5 Producer: Is There a 64-Bit Version of PerfectSpace?
John Vere replied to Annabelle's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
I found this old thread that explains a bit about Perfect Space. http://forum.cakewalk.com/Bringing-back-perfect-space-m3502079.aspx It was never upgraded to 64 bit. I have excluded all 32 bit plug ins a long time ago with the exeption of Mr Tramp. Generally they caused me grief. Your best bet is to just find a free plug in that does something similar. There are certainly a lot of great free reverbs around. I just paid only $7 for izotopes Phoenix verb I like it a lot. 32 bit plug ins show as yellow and have 32 in brackets I unexcluded it just to take the screen shot here to double check. -
I mostly like the new export dialogue. But here’s my issues for what it’s worth. Most of them would be solved if it simply retained the settings with the project. I am constantly having to reset every single box over and over. It always defaults back to settings I don’t want. The worst one is I export stems as mono /48/32. It will reset to stereo 44.1/24 immediately. The other one is selecting time base export. It will need to be re entered every time. I often will export dozens of times during proof mixes. Next is the name. I don’t want my export named as the project. It used to use the name you added to the Notes in the browser. Yes you can easily change it but once again it is not retained. Next is the MP3 Meta data always needs to be reset. It would be nice if each project saved the last state of the export dialogue.

Sonar didn't save my browser notes
John Vere replied to charles kasler's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
They help fill in the meta data sort of. Cakewalk used to use the title of the song placed there in the Exported file. Now it’s defaulting to the project title which sucks because my project titles usually include a date. -
Good by and good luck. Seems there’s always one in a hundred that have multiple issues. Just bad luck I guess. Personaly I would not trust auto save. I just save after an average of 15 minutes or so. Just a long-standing habit. Same goes with any software I use. They all have auto save but experience has taught me not to trust it. Instead of blaming Cakewalk you might want to just change your workflow and carry on.

When this happens to me it’s always a background CPU issue. Run Latency Monitor and see what it says. Turn of your internet etc. Also certain look ahead plug ins can cause this so try global bypassing all effects and see. It should have nothing to do with Audio interfaces. https://www.resplendence.com/latencymon

One key stroke: two midi events shortly after another?
John Vere replied to Waldemar's topic in Instruments & Effects
I was just given a Yamaha piano and it was dead in the middle. I managed to clean it up and it’s working but that octave doesn’t respond the same as the rest now you have to hit it a bit harder. The good news is brands like Yamaha, Roland and Korg all have inexpensive replacement parts for fixing these issues. Just be prepared to remove 150 screws. I made a video about the Yamaha. -
Yes you've gotten rid of most of the boom but there's still a rumble in those toms. Are they on there own track or in the overheads? And to my old ears that's the only thing I'm hearing that I would personally deal with, the rest is right on. And the organ was a great idea, fills in the holes and sits in the mix without getting in the way. I totally agree that a " mix Review" form would be a great idea. That would much more help to me too. In a way I like to post songs only to get mix critiques. ( I already know my songs are awesome ) The more ears the better. We get too involved in our own songs sometimes and you can miss things. Not only those extra ears, but some folks here have better monitors than others.

Sonar didn't save my browser notes
John Vere replied to charles kasler's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
I was going to ask if you had checked the OK button. It should have nothing to do with screen sets. -
Yep always a incompatible plug in. And sometimes unexpected. I had a cranky project the other day. All sorts of weird things were happening. Including blank exports, sluggish response. Only “new” plug in was an Izotope widener. Swapped it back to the BT one I always use and since then no more weirdness.

You invest in a proper audio interface

It’s not clear in the documentation about saving the chosen width. Workspaces are global to all projects but experience has taught me they don’t save the narrow strips because every project has different strips. A Workspace will only save the Console views location and size. Screen sets would be what saves the size as they are per project. I personally haven’t used them since Workspaces started. I’m going to try that next time I get a chance because this has always annoyed me too. Reading the documentation just now, I learned something I didn’t know, there’s a toggle to make all tracks narrow in the view menu. I’ve been doing them one at a time for fggn years now. This would be what I need because my workflow has me needing all the tracks wide while working on mix adjustments. But then on the home stretch I’m finished working there and need to drag the buses on screen. I going to see if I can keybind this Or buy one of those wide monitors ?

Yes that what I was hearing. For the style of music it was a bit too bass heavy and not clear. I should listen again in my studio but at this moment I’m laying on a gurney in the hospital after a hernia surgery. What I’d do is play the track with Span on a master bus and look at the frequency spectrum. Compare that to a song you admire

The problem with top and tails in Cakewalk using the export dialogue is you can’t preview it. That’s the deal breaker for me. Assembly of an album is different than one offs. I have very specific timing I want depending on the tempo of the music. A lot of the ideas posted above are just way too much work compared to what I do in way less time. That time adds up when dealing with 20 songs . And what @Kalle Rantaaho said about midi instruments is definitely important. Yes you can draw an envelope on the Master bus. This is almost always needed for midi instruments because you don’t seem to be able to add a fade like you can on each audio track. But for me because I’ll be topping and tailing with the wave editor it’s much quicker to deal with it there. I also use Wave lab to check peak, RMS levels as well as it will look for digital errors.

The export doesn’t convert? It exports as an MP3. From the preset menu choose Entire mix MP3

How best to randomize mechanically created music notes?
John Vere replied to DallasSteve's question in Q&A
That’s what works for me. I use a Roland A 49 and it’s very responsive so I try my best to play the parts live and then I edit to taste. Over time my chops on the keyboard have most certainly improved.
