Plugins sounding very low or just not good

Bruno Carbonell

Question

So I got Cakewalk some time ago, but I just started learning how to use it.

The problem is that whenever I add plugin and try to play something on it, it just sounds very low and in some cases very weird to. I found out that switching the pan knob all the way to one side(doesn't matter which) fixes it? When I was learning all of the very basic stuff this didn't bother me at all, but now that I want to start experimenting and learning with the mixing aspect of the daw, it's literally impossible since I'm always forced to have the pan knob fully at one side or the other. Also I keep on hearing the stuff I write inside Cakewalk on both sides of my headphones regardless of me doing this, but obviously when I want to export the track I need to put everything in the middle again because then entire thing would only be on one side.

Also whenever I plug in my audio interface, every sound that comes from my computer that is outside Cakewalk sounds insanely low, is this normal?

Thanks a lot for the help!

For a faster more precise answer you need to supply details of how your using your audio set up. Otherwise I can only guess what your doing wrong here.

You either use an audio interface or you use on board sound. It's not clear which one your using.

You don't use both at the same time.

Have you watched the getting started tutorials yet? Cakewalk is complicated and it is recommended you spend some time watching some videos and learning before you just jump in with both feet and start stumbling around. We have a Tutorials sub forum here.

What is your audio interface?

Are you using ASIO?

Did you follow the instructions for getting it to work?

It was my headphones? They work fine with everything but for some reason they sound horrible with my audio interface, so I though it was either that or cakewalk. I just got new ones so everything is working properly now.

Thanks for the help anyways! :)
