Yes! That's the one. The thing that caught my eye in the EULA is:

    Quote

Subject to the restrictions stated in the EULA, you may use, display, modify, reproduce, and distribute the associated Content File. However, you may not distribute the Content File on a standalone basis (i.e., in circumstances in which the Content File constitute the primary value of the product being distributed), and Customer may not claim any trademark rights in the Content File or derivative works thereof.

I'm not shure about that last line. What do they mean with not claiming trademark rights in derivative works? Would that mean if you slightly alter the samples and try to sell them as your own (understandable), or are they being deliberately broad and could they say that any use is a derivative work?

They are nice. 106 and Wired are still on sale at AudioDeluxe for $9.99 ... and get Lead free with purchase until the 14th.

Good deal indeed. I went for 106 with the free Lead (already have the lofreq). I still had around $8 in Deluxebucks so I got it all for 1 buck. 😎

  3. Lots of sustained sounds, movement and layering. I love how the MS-20 mini interacts with the Subsequent 37. It's hard to choose which one will get their bass cut (can't have both 😢). Anyway, stupid thumbnail but since Youtube can be really fickle about my vids, I might as wel join the demons.

    Enjoy!

I'll also weigh in that Davinci resolve is powerful (and pretty easy to learn) - but it is also far from efficient.  It needs a modern CPU/Graphics card to do any sort of multi-cam work.

It won't even run at all on older machines with single videos.  Out of all the video editors I've used, Davinci is the most particular about the hardware it needs to see to run properly.

I must say, I have pretty much no (zero) knowledge about graphic cards. I bought my PC during the graphic card shortages at the end of 2021 (due to crypto I think? And shortages due to covid), so the only thing I could get was an MSI GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GT LP. This is a card from 2017.

It does all my multicam stuff easily in 1080p. Haven't tried 4K. My jam videos with all kind of additional graphics with a length of around 6-7 minutes, render in a couple of minutes.

But (and it's a huge Nicki Minaj but), I have absolutely no idea if I'm using the card at all, I could be rendering with my CPU (a pretty powerful i9 12900k). That's about my level of competence with graphic work. 😅 But I guess DaVinci goes for the dedicated graphics card as a default?

  5. Let me weigh in on the Davinci Resolve thing. I use it for all my (multicam) jam videos. As said before in this topic, it might seem daunting but you really don't need a lot of functions/pages. Drop all your media in...Media. Go to Edit for...editing (skip the cut page). Whatever you do, skip the fusion page, there be dragons there (well, I use it for greenscreen correcting which is pretty easy once you know what tool you need). Use you daw for audio and import it. Color is for....color, just doomscrool through all the LUT's you want. Export is pretty easy.

The most advanced thing I do is syncing 3 camera angles and that literally takes 3 seconds because it's a baked in function in Resolve. I bought an additional graphics pack for $49 with which I'm sure I'm set for life.

    • Thanks 1
  6. Yeah yeah, another week another jam. I recorded this last week and in retrospect you notice some thing went on too long. But hey, there's no going back. There was something weird going on in the arrangement where the hihats seemed out of time after the drop. But when I changed the synths it all seemed to get back into sync. That's not what happened, but the combination of synths in the break/drop and the hihats made it seem that way. Sound can be weird.

I thought this was pretty interesting! Very nice room setup and I appreciate the synth porn. I alternated between watching your moves and then closing my eyes  for just the audio. Both worked a treat!

I listened on my best headphones. I did hear some separation and panning of elements, but I felt like whatever YouTube does to audio might be doing you the slightest disservice. I bet it sounds just a hair more hi-res in your room!

That's a lot of effort - do you practice the moves beforehand before filming it, following a script of some kind? Super interesting process, and I appreciate the brevity. Some peoples "watch me jams" can be an hour long, which is quite ridiculous imho.

That fat-***** bass drony synth is the highlight, it's super rich, sounds great in this!

    kudos!

    cheers,

    -Tom

    Hi Tom,

thanks for the reply! It sounds fine in my room, but to be honest, I don't pay that much attention to panning and stuff. So the criticism is valid. I don't think Youtube does a lot to the stereofield of the mix? Well, I'm always learning. So your comment and that of @Wookiee are going to be in my mind next jam (well no, I already recorded, mixed and mastered that, so in 2 weeks).  Most of the current stereo seperation is from delays and reverb fx. So I will definitely try to do some more work in the stereofield. Thanks.

I do practice runs yes, not really to practice what I will do and repeat it but to see if what I have in mind will work in 6-8 minutes. I've had jams where I have a cheatsheet, but I try to do without. Depending on the number of channels I try to do everything live, but mixing  like 12 channels on an 8 channel MIDI controller is hard (you have to switch views, don't know which channel is where exactly, etc).

The fat-*** drone is the MS-20 mini. It's a classic for a reason. I have it feedback patched (the out to the ext. in and the phones out to my pre-amps). Combined with the Sub37 gives me an insane amount of colourful and rich bass.

Nick, you clearly don't have a kid in college. For those of us who do, we have a much more modest list! Also, as Carl was asking about Conduit, I vote for a video of you playing including Conduit. I think most people here would be into your playing and gear.

For those who haven't seen it, Nick makes some very cool videos of him playing a ton of cool synths and drum machines with enough cool gear it will make most of us envious (me included in that group).

Haha no video yet. I have some plans to record a longer set where some time is reserved for some droning techno. But I need a new camera for that because it won't fit on my phone (and another old phone I use will never make it for a longer time than 10 minutes).

But indeed, no kids. I was pretty lucky to buy my house at it's absolute lowest in the market. Add an ok paying job with public transport compensation (so, I have the smallest cheapest car) and I can save a lot of money each month.

Have you tried this out yet? I hesitated last second, and sale ended. Thought the demos sounded great - and in a particular noise style that I love - but also found it difficult to tell how playable it was. Some of these type libraries seem better suited to .wav file sample packs than instruments. Could not tell from the walkthroughs.

Yes I have, it's a bit of a mixed bag where you can do some melodic work with some patches and more of a drone atmosphere with others. But they are lively patches with a lot of movement. Quick demo of a couple of presets.

  11. Boy do I love the sound of a droning heavy MS-20. The feedback patch gives it a lot of grit. Overall a bit rougher feeling than last week, and I like it. A bit heavier beat and a great lead. Don't tell anyone but I had to re-record the Lyra-8 because I forgot to change the frequency to make a riser in the break. That's why you can hear the pitch rising without me doing anything on camera.

I particularly like the Matriarch patch, it has some slight pitch wobble which makes it sound unstable, but not too much to make it sound out of tune.

    Enjoy!

  12. I'm a little bit ashamed, but I have a feeling some of y'all are underreporting. So here's everything I bought in the enitre month of november (if I went with BF itself I would have bought nothing). I've marked everything I planned with a (P).

    Cableguys Reverbshaper
    Orchestral Tools Conduit
    TheNatan Xeight2
    D16 Repeater (P)
    Minimal Audio soundpacks
    Universal Audio LA2A (P)
    Universal Audio Signature Edition
    Safari Pedals Gorilla Drive (P)
Kingsway Music Aaron Paris Vol 1 (P)
    Retrohandzmusic Essential Afro house
Navie D Boom Bap Box (P)
Basicwavez Bass Lab vol 2 (P)
Audioreakt Solid Techno Kicks 2 (P)
    Imaginando VS (P)
    Devious Machines upgrade all (P)
    Fabfilter Pro-R 2
    PML Everything 2023 (P)
Waves Clarity vx, Vocal Bender & Soundshifter (P)
    Goodhertz Trem Control (P)
    Teletone Audio Le Gibet (P)
    Teletone Tympo (P)
The Drum Broker samples BF 2023 (P)
    Tracktion F'em

So about 65% was planned. In my defense, some of the unplanned stuff are new releases (Reverbshaper, Xeight2, Conduit, Pro-R2), so they have nothing to do with BF. If they were launched in january I would have gotten them then.

And roughly 30% of what I bought are sample packs. The single most expensive thing on the list (PML Everything 2023) was €196 and is almost entirely samples. Couple of preset packs also. The UA Signature edition is the largest unplanned purchase at €145. But I think no-one is denying that's a great bargain. In total I spent little under €1250.

I also spent around €700 on hardware. No discount, so not BF related. But it is the time of the year for bonusses / 13th month etc. So I had some room.

I’ve got BBCSO Pro, Albion One, Albion Tundra, Albion Neo, eDNA, British Drama Toolkit, Kepler Orchestra, plus a few smaller ones.
Quite happy with these. Pretty pretty happy. But I hate to see they even don’t mention Christian Henson in their 15 years retrospective. He’s the anonymous co-founder, apparently.

    Really? That's a d*ck move.

Ontopic: at the moment they have nothing that interests me or is still too expensive for what I would use it for.
