  1. The music and visuals are indeed very creative. Lyrics are poignant as well. This was fun and enjoyable! Well done!!
  2. Last month, during the time that my computer and other gear was in repair, I used my laptop to go to my SoundClick site and listen to songs that I had posted way back when. Looking through some files I actually found some notes that I took from comments to that post. The song was pretty raw and in general the suggestions were concerning things such as EQing, a bit of timing, panning and volume levels on some of the instruments. So --- once my gear was back in order I made some corrections to this song. My skills in the matters of mixing haven't improved much in the 10+ years since I first posted this song. Hopefully, this update is a bit better than the original post. I would very much appreciate any input on this revised version even though most will have not heard the original post to SoundClick. Thanks! BTW, the subject or narrator in this song is not a "masher." It is just a tale of a lonely guy who sees some one that might be in the same state that he is in and thinks that together they might be able to help each other. 3. Aaah, my Jesse treat for the week! Cool! Frank Zappa-ish. Way back when I must have played FZ's Brain Police (I think that was the title) until the grooves in the vinyl wore out. Carry on the tradition, lad ...!
  4. Great start. You have some good lyrics and the timing of the vocals matches the instrumentation well. I have to agree with the comments above -- a driving bass and a bit more edge would really give this song a great edge to it. Nice one!!
  5. I don't know diddly about mixing and therefore won't comment about that. What I listen for in a song is the effect I get when I hear it! This is doggone excellent. Every thing to these geriatric ears sound great. The playing is excellent, the arrangement is also. All of the instrumentation can be identified and heard and it is very tight. The song itself is well composed, really commands attention and keeps one's attention focused. The feeling when I heard it --- well, it rang Freddy's bell.
  6. Excellent and beautiful song. I certainly agree with the kudos above -- great lyrics, wonderful vocals, professional performances/instrumentation, and top notch mix.

    Lookout

Ya those double guitars really set up a nice edge to the whole project. I would think that this would fit nicely in setting up scenes in an adventure type video/movie. Most cool indeed.
  8. Wow -- What a production!!! Absoflippinlutely, great video matched to an equal powerful audio (lyrics and instrumentation). All of the participants in this production were excellent! At the risk of being repetitive - absoflippinlutely impressive!!! Hope the new album does well!

    Saturday Night

Very nice and nostalgic indeed. The drums are perfect for that 1950's feel. Well done Bjorn!!!
  10. Very much enjoyed this visual and listening experience. Mix sounded good, the video was excellent, the lyrics told a great "wistful" story with some humour and the instrumentation was performed perfectly. Your son did a great job on vocals. What's not to like? This was fun! Well done indeed!!!
  11. Great start. I look forward to the completed project!
  12. To borrow from Nigel above ..."cool stuff indeed". A most enjoyable song indeed!!

    SNOW DREAMS

Beautiful!! I think that I remember this one. Mark's guitar work is perfect and Warren's bass really carries the song along. Eva's vocals are excellent! The mix is very well done. What more would anyone want. Great stuff y,all.
  14. First of all my apologies for being late in responding. It has been a bad combination of the holidays, CoVid (my son and sister), and my computer being cranky and needing some TLC by someone that knew what they were doing. Hi Tim. Thank you very much and I am much in agreement. It would be nice if the Christmas feeling could last the whole year long! In answer to your question, no I don't normally use a doubler or double track an individual vocal track. This particular song only has one lead vocal and one harmony track. It was pretty much raw -- from microphone to the Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 interface. On the track itself a little EQ was performed and that was it. Thanks again. Hi tom. The drums were clips. One was from Beta Monkey (usually I have found them to be quite adequate) and the fills including high hat and crash cymbals were from --- I have no idea. I think that some of the problem with the over-sizzling is that they were from two different sources. I will need to see if I can get them better EQ'ed, balanced and ?. Ya -- you are right about the vocals. We are coming on hard with pollen season (Cedar, Maple, and Oak) with counts ranging around 10 to 11. That is high and not helpful for folks with allergies. Maybe in about 3-4 weeks I will be able to re-do them. I think I may also have to look at some minor timing issues near the end also. As always, I very much thank you taking the time to listen and I appreciate your suggestions. Hi Nigel. Thanks for listening and commenting. I shall take tom's comments to heart as I will yours. Thanks again. Hi Bjorn. Thank you very much Bjorn. I appreciate the encouragement!
  15. First of all my apologies for being tardy in responding. It has been a bad combination of the holidays, CoVid (my son and sister), and my computer being cranky and needing some TLC by someone that knew what they were doing. Hey Jesse. Happy New year and many thanks for listening and commenting. Thank you Hidden Symmetry! I appreciate the kind words about this number and the Christmas song post. Hi Ron_Pko. Thanks for taking time to listen and for the kind comments. Hi Leadfoot. I must admit that I like the Little Richard version best but I could never present it as did he. The Everly's version was hard enough. Thanks very much for listening and for the encouraging comments.
  16. Here is one for the holiday season. A little story about a guy whose "baby" just loves watching Christmas and holiday movies. She loves watching the Christmas in July series that is shown on one of the channels in ..... yes, July. She wonders why we just can't seem to keep that holiday goodwill feeling all year long. BTW, it was my wife who was the inspiration for this song. I was stricken with allergies during the recording and the vocals are a bit rough, particularly the last chorus (a bit of timing problems). Therefore, before I make changes, I very much would appreciate some input, comments, crit.'s, etc. Thanks and happy holidays to all!! 17. Really cool, interesting number. The video (pictures and fades with the reel to reel tape) was creative. This has a nice cinematic sound. And yes, that is some impressive guitar work! Cool indeed!
  18. That was a great ride Bats!! Excellent guitar work - including a nice driving bass . Very nice changes -- particularly coming in around 1:57. Was that the train coming into the station. Oh yes - great mix!
  19. Hi Phono Brainer! I love that aqua green color that was used around that time. Great photo! My first car was a 1957 Ford (used - about 10 years old). The radio looked similar with no push buttons. After the comments from Lynn and you - yup, I remember that sound! The treble was up and there was little bottom. The drums were usually present but soft, as was the bass. The lead and rhythm guitars were OK and the vocals dominated. I was doing this song from memory (from what ever that band's name was) and it must have carried over. Thanks very much for the kind comments!!
  20. Hi Nigel. Thanks very much for listening and the comments. I appreciate it! Have a safe trip back to S. Africa! Hi Batsbrew. Nice to hear from you. I appreciate your kind comments and thanks for taking the time to listen and comment! There is indeed only one Little Richard! Hey Allan. I would probably break my larynx if I tried to do any of Little Richards stuff. I compliment myself that I am clever enough not to try. I am glad that you enjoyed it and thank you for the kind words! Hi Bjorn. Nah, I don't have the courage to try and emulate Little Richard. For an old fossil like me, the Everly Brothers version was enough of a challenge. I glad that you enjoyed it and thanks for the kind words and encouragement. Thank you Andy. Thanks for the kind words and I'm glad that you enjoyed it! Hi Lynn. I was fortunate to see the Everly's a couple of times when my wife and I lived in Toronto. They looked a bit older but still sounded great. Oh ya, they also demonstrated some of their infamous bickering while on stage. I appreciate you kind words. Thanks for listening and commenting!

    Good Or Bad

I really enjoy that you are trying many different styles of songs. I particularly like that you are getting a message across but are not overselling the song (vocals). IMHO in so much of what one hears from the commercial sources, the vocalist ruins it by overstatement and overselling (performance, lyrics, etc.) to the point of annoyance. Sorry for the run-on sentence. Nice on Jack!
  22. That cranked up guitar panned hard left gave this number a wee bit of a punk-like feel. Love --- ain't it grand! Cool stuff Jesse!!!
  23. You do have a talent for weaving sounds into a tapestry of enjoyable listening. I certainly would not be opposed to A TD 4 but I always look forward to anything new from your.
