  1. Have you assigned it to a MIDI channel? That worked for me.
  2. Fred, you words are very much appreciated! I had a lot of fun with this, and it just fell into my lap, so to speak. You get it about the words; I intentionally was vague so as not to ruffle too many feathers. There is going to be a big change soon, as Markno999 rewrote the drum tracks, and he improved the overall feel very much. Less busy. I'll talk to you soon. Daryl, it's good to hear from you, and I hope your recovery goes well! I appreciate your kind words, and I'll take the vocal levels into account when I remix this. As stated above, Markno999 rewrote the drums, so you should hear an improvement very soon. Later, my friend.
  3. Clone your original track, archive it, then clone another track to experiment on. If you like the results, it doesn't really matter whether it's destructive or not. as long as you keep your original track.
  4. Mark and Bjorn, I'm addressing your comments together, as you've made the same observation. I think what you're hearing is the double bass drum pattern that I chose for those sections. It comes from the "progressive" set of grooves in SD3. It's very busy, and perhaps isn't the best part for these sections, however, they are in time, at least, in the PRV. It does raise a legitimate concern. Is there a consensus on this? This is easily fixable. I appreciate this kind of feedback!
  5. And, cheers to you! Your comments mean a lot!
  6. I, too, agree that this is a good beginning to a good song. Now, it's all dynamically the same, and the emotional level doesn't change much throughout the song. It might be interesting to have some build up and some back off in different sections. Have fun with this mix, as it has possibilities.
  7. Low end or not, this is a fun track to listen to, and the video is clever. I look forward to your next song!
  8. What a great teaser! I can't wait to hear the next chapter.
  9. Thank you! Same to ya' I, too, blame the lack of coffee for much...
  10. I truly appreciate your comments! There's much about reality that's out of the box for me right now Thank you very much! Unpredictability is my goal.
  11. Tom, these are exactly the kind of comments that I'm looking for. The kick drum was the most difficult decision for me, and I want it to cut through without muddying the mix. I have plenty of options, so I'll spend some more time auditioning other kicks. As for the right channel, I'll be careful not to over-emphasize those elements in the next mix. Gracias! It's good to hear from you again, Marshall! I'm glad you like the tune. Stay in touch. Steve, thank you for your astute comments! Yes, that is a reversed guitar (one of my favorite features in CW); I just reversed the last two measures of that section. I agree that the glue is not quite there, yet, and you may have hit the nail on the head. The rhythm section needs some love. Stay tuned!
  12. Thanks, Nigel! Those sounds come from O-Vox and Z3TA+2. I can't wait to try out some more sounds. I really appreciate your comments, Steve. I can relate to what you're saying because health problems have curtailed my internet time, though not my studio time. I hope all recover well and have a healthier year! I put up the lyrics in my first post so that you and everyone can see weirdness that's in so many lives right now. As you and Tom point out, I have more work to do with this song, but I'm getting a sense of the direction to go
  13. Here's the first song I wrote this year, and I'm wondering if it's ready to go into the oven yet. I had a lot of fun experimenting with O-Vox, using my voice to drive synthesizers, especially now that my rig is fast enough to monitor in real-time. Much gratitude to all for your time and thoughts. 3-19-23: Thanks to a huge contribution from Markno999, I've created "Chaos Ravine 2.0": https://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=14563308 Since we both have SD3, he was able to create a MIDI drum file for the song, using a different kit and grooves. The only original drum tracks that I kept were the pre-choruses. I cleaned up a few other minor things and lowered the vocals a tad, per Daryl1968. So many thanks to all who have contributed! Here are the lyrics, as requested: Sapphire eyes on silicon clowns Live forever with their ups and downs When they get home and turn on the lights They feel safer, but they’re hungry all night They say it’s better to be seen than heard That’s only for kids It only matters when they hear the word That keeps flipping their lids CHORUS Chaos ravine is calling It’s holding them in a spell Chaos ravine forever There’s nothing to show or tell Laser beams come down from the sky Harmony is hard to come by They’re pointing their fingers at everyone else The odor still lingers until they see themselves They leave a shadow everywhere they go, it’s like planting a seed They fill a void by reaping what they sow because it’s filling a need Their happiness comes with pain You can see it in their eyes Their loneliness causes rain Is it any surprise? Bridge: They’re hard as diamonds when it comes to rules Because they’ve broken quite a few And, they’ll assist you when you give them fools It’s the best that you can do Chaos ravine is calling It’s holding them in a spell Chaos ravine forever There’s nothing to show or tell Chaos ravine is calling Chaos ravine is calling Chaos ravine is calling
  14. This is good, Tom, it really has potential. Good tones all around and a good performance. I hope to hear more!
  15. Wow! That's one of the nicest compliments I've ever received. Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good...
  16. Thank you for your kind words! I especially like that you listened to "Don't Take Candy From A Stranger", as I just remixed that song. It's one of my favorites. Rock on!
  17. I've been listening to your beats and song for years, and you have evolved quite a bit. This snippet is very well mixed, having something of a 3-D effect which gives a roundness to the instruments. I like it.
  18. This is very classic rock and you nailed it. I like the wide spacing of the guitars, and your solo is very nice! The video rocks, too, though I would have liked to have seen more closeups of you. This deserves an audience.

    Smug?

Terrific! When the voices stack up at the end, it reminded me of Yes, especially with the guitar in the background. This is a winner!
  20. Great song and production! I love good horns, and this has them in spades. Joshua's voice rocks, and your collaboration works. Congrats!
  21. Aside from the above suggestions, what I like about both versions is that you made them your own, rather than just being a carbon copy. This is a great song, and you have the voice for it! Stay with it!
  22. Thanks Paul! I appreciate your time! Joshua, I can tell you really took time to hear this with such a detailed reply. Try as I might, I don't quite hear the issues you're talking about. It is something that I'll take into consideration when I get back to this song. It would help to know what you are listening through, I may have something similar. Thanks so much for your time and effort!
  23. Fred, I would call this experimental blues. This seems to be an exercise in combining social commentary with a cutting edge Freddy J arrangement. I like the chord progression with the stabs of slightly dissonant horns. It's very effective in giving that edgy vibe you're going for. I feel that way, too. Your lyrics are pointed, and I'm sure they ask the same questions that most people are asking these days. I love this and can't wait until you are happy with the vocals (which already sound good). You've done your community a great service!
