I have more Mini Moog emulations than I can shake a stick at but Minimonsta has long been my favourite so I had to bite on this one and upgrade

Boy, is their website slow at the moment, not helped by a forgotten login and the need to reset the password it was over half an hour to complete the purchase.

There was an apology email from the team member at GForce who looks after the website. He mentioned an issue with a database loop. I've worked on projects where this kind of issue has brought websites to a halt during intense purchasing periods, so I have felt their pain.

Sometimes it's not easy to rearchitect the code when the issue involves database calls made through an underlying framework library that simplifies things for the developer at the expense of obfuscating how the database is being queried.  It's especially not easy when you're trying to allow buyers to complete their purchases simultaneously while you try to investigate and fix the issue(s).

They are offering me Keysuite Bundle for $49.

That's $300 off. Not sure why I qualify.

    It's only 51GB 🤯

It's possible you're being offered $49 off the (full) price of Keysuite Bundle. Maybe try adding the deal to your cart to check. I think everyone who gets this offer gets super excited then almost equally disappointed haha.

I tried the version 1 demo, and then opted for the Cherry Audio Miniverse instead.

Did you compare Miniverse against anything more recent than version 1? That thing is showing its age. I can't say I ever felt inclined to use it after picking it up for free, but the V2 demo seems pretty capable.

Just wondering if you had any thoughts about the Cherry Miniverse vs Softube Model 72, Synapse The Legend, or the UAD Minimoog perhaps? I haven't demoed the Miniverse yet.

Tried the demo and this thing sounds wonderful. The cryptic message saying u can only use alpha presets in the demo means only the presets with the Greek alpha symbol next to the preset's star work. There must be a lot of interest cuz their site is getting slammed.

They gave version 1 away last year as a Sound Collective freebie, so that's a lot of prospective upgraders. Including me 😊

Should have listened to this guy instead of feedback on 3 forums.

Are you saying you should have listened to Zo and bought Bassynth? That the advice to buy serum presets was poor? As someone who still thinks about buying Serum and is also contemplating Bassynth I'd be interested in your thoughts.

$39.5 here! nice... still can't buy it yet, lol.

When I click upgrade and then add the promo code to the cart, it shows what the upgrade discount is based on at the top. Mine says "Volume 5 (upgrade from Marshall Plexi)".

I also own Amp Room, Drawmer S73, TSAR-1R and Tube Delay. I get the uninspiring $349.50 upgrade price. May I ask what it says your upgrade is from, to be offered $39.50?

  7. Considering the launch discount was 33 Euro my suggestion is wait for a sale. Often when JRR adds a product it's because a sale is coming up.

I demoed it at launch and it sounds pretty good but I thought I was good for strings with Gforce Virtual String Machine.

But apparently I wasn't because then I bought the XILS string machine bundle, and after buying UVI Vintage Vault  I discovered its string machine library is far superior to Gforce's, to my ears anyway. So once again I think I'm good for string machines.

I'll probably still buy this when it goes on sale if it comes back down to $33 ish. Who doesn't love string synths!

  8. I do have a decent case with fans but you're right I need to re thermal paste it, and probably the cooler which is stock. My problem is that it seems any money spent would be better spent on a new machine 😊

So maybe I'll just clean the heatsink fins out instead.

Lots of factors you didn't include....

    Number of tracks?

    Latency settings / buffer settings?

    What constitutes too many plugins?

I can cause a modern computer to fail at 44.1 16bit with a bunch of vsts and effects while trying to run a bunch of low latency real time tracks such as amp sims and using high CPU effects.

I can also run 192 without problems for a stereo recording and high buffer settings on the same machine.

Well recently it was a song I was working on with about 10 tracks all using VST synths or Kontakt libraries (not recorded audio), and on top of that I added KSHMR Chain to every track with three plugins running on each, U-He Satin, TBProAudio GSatPlus, and FrontDAW. Buffer was probably 1024 samples at 96khz. I didn't realise it was running at 96khz so I was surprised when I realised it was overheating, thinking it was running at 48khz.

I'm assuming we're probably still 10 years away from being able to run everything at 192khz with a bunch of tracks and plugins and not have performance issues.

Part of me thought he was joking.   If he said also using ASIO4ALL then it would be.

I wasn't joking. I notice a worthwhile difference in sound quality at 96khz so I wonder whether there'd be a further improvement at 192khz, plus it'd pretty much eliminate aliasing. So when I see an interface advertising 192khz I wonder is anyone using it already and if so, can they actually run it at 192khz when making music ITB or is it really only useful for recording at 192 khz.

  11. Wow!

I am genuinely shocked, but upon reflection I am also pleased by this announcement. In contrast to earlier seeing creatively bankrupt companies join forces to cross-market rather than innovate or support their existing products, here we have a company with the most user-friendly stance in the market (free lifetime upgrades!) acquiring a company with some of the most creatively inspiring products and soundware in the market.

  12. Otto Audio, maker of the heaviest (but also super versatile) amp sim 11 11 11 11, as well as some high quality cab IRs, has a new plugin for mixing heavy music called More is More.

I picked up their amp sim and found it to be great while I was playing guitar, although I've been focusing more on keys lately.

Regularly $149 you can get this new plugin for $100 off at launch with the code GOLDPLATEDSOUND

    https://ottoaudio.net/products/more-is-more

    A note from the Engineer:

"Throughout the decade before the II II II II & Otto Audio, I spent time mastering records for heavy bands from all over the world.  I had the pleasure of working with some of my favorite artists of all time, as well as did work on my own music.  During this time I developed & refined a workflow method to get pristine loudness, grit & character.  A secret, not-so-secret method of a soft clipper into a limiter, among other things, to get the heaviness to translate without altering the mix or destroying meters.  This is the primary concept that came to the forefront when engineering More is More, as I make things I want to see & use personally.  But I didn't just want to slap simple algorithms into a plugin and put my name on it, I refined and worked through 81 (yes really) versions of the plug-in until it was finished... and it will finish off your mixes & masters with a pristine, character infused, loud.  I included 40 starting point presets to make it as easy as dropping it on a track.  Use your ears, turn some knobs, it's got it where it counts and won't let you down."

A secret sauce plug-in to add character, weight, punch and grit to your tracks, as well as loudness + finishing polish to your tracks/mixes/masters.  Take it all the way from just adding a little weight or emphasis... clean loud to sparkling harmonics and crunch or even blown out distortion for when the situation calls for it.  More is More is sure to stay on your mix bus & find all kinds of uses in your mixing & mastering projects.

  13. Whenever I read about destinations in the Caribbean it reminds me of playing the game "Sid Meier's Pirates!" on the Commodore Amiga back in 1991 while listening to Beastie Boys' License to Ill album, which was oddly fitting for a cartoonish adventure pillaging in the New World. That's the only time I've "visited" places like San Juan and St Martin. It'd be nice to visit for real one day.

Larry, I hope you have a great trip and manage to steer clear of any privateers and buccaneers on the high seas!
